Bruce Lindsay reports

Time for our daily Latvian Olympic update — since Latvia is KSL's adopted Olympic Team. Today's cultural lesson is about how to sing the Latvian national anthem, when you don't speak the language.
Students in the school choir at Rowland Hall St. Mark's undertook to learn the song that is to Latvians, what to "The Star Spangled Banner" is to us.
Only drawback for these first through fifth graders: it's not in English. Not even close.

So, do they know what they're singing?
Erin Lence says, "No! We just try to pronounce the words."
They had no idea in this rehearsal that the President of Latvia would come to their school this week and hear them sing.
"It's really hard at first to get the pronounciation right, because it's really weird," according to Hannah Grunwald.
But with the right pronounciation, it's really neat, even if you don't have a clue what it means.
Alex Lemons says, "I tried to figure it out. It's something.. 'God Bless Latvia.' And I'm not sure what the rest is."
"Our choir teacher just said one line, and we tried to pronounce it as much as we could. And we did that a couple of time until we got it."
