Olympic Crowds and Long Lines

Starting Monday morning, long lines started forming to get into Olympic Square.
One person told us they'd waited about 45 minutes. News Specialist Sam Penrod reports.
The main delay in getting people in has to do with the security checks. Getting through metal detectors as well as bag searches takes time.
And once you get inside, there are long lines to sponsor tents, and food stands.
Because of President's Day, many Utah families from one end of the state to the other decided to come to the downtown to experience the Olympics.
Jessica Peacock of Clearfield said, "We came down here to see the attractions, and what we could see of Salt Lake."
And from Scott Tanner of St. George: "We took pictures over there. There's a lot to do and a lot to see."
One thing we couldn't find was discouragment from those who came downtown and had to wait in long lines.
Mirci Nelson of Brigham City told us she was, "Just enjoying the Olympics, having a great time in Salt Lake."
While the line at the Olympic Superstore looked discouraging, most people made it inside in about 15 minutes.
Others took time to get autographs from celebrities like Caroline Rhea, who is taping a segment for the Rosie O'Donnell show.
If you are coming downtown to an event, or just to be in the Olympic crowds, you are encouraged to use the park and ride shuttle buses to get downtown.
