Swiss beat U.S. women in semifinals

Associated Press

OGDEN, Utah — The American women curlers will play for a bronze medal after losing 9-4 to Switzerland in an Olympic semifinal.
The U.S. team conceded the victory after nine ends — or innings — when Switzerland scored three in the ninth on a shot by team skip Luzia Ebnoether.
Kari Erickson had led the Americans to a 3-3 tie at the end of the fifth, but Switzerland soon added three more to make it 6-3.
The Americans had won four consecutive matches to reach the medal round after starting 2-3 in round-robin play.
In the other women's semifinal, Britain defeated defending gold medalist Canada 6-5, setting up a Thursday title game against the Swiss. Canada will battle the Americans for the bronze.
The men's semifinals were set for later Wednesday, with the medal games on Friday.
