Deedee back for Games
She was in Budapest when Salt Lake won the bid, and she brought the Olympic flag home from Nagano, the first woman ever to accept the flag for a host city.
Now she's back in Utah to see how it all turned out although she's no longer the city's top elected official.
"I'm as happy as can be, and so proud of the city," said former Salt Lake City Mayor Deedee Corradini Monday by cell phone as she headed down 300 West on her way to The Gateway, another legacy of her two terms as mayor.
Does she feel bittersweet about watching the world party in a city where she is no longer the mayor who gets interviewed on international TV?
Not at all, said Corradini. She consciously chose, she said, not to let a two-week event convince her to try for another four-year term as mayor.
Corradini, who remarried in 1999 and now lives in Greenville, S.C., currently serves on the U.S. Olympic Committee and is vice chairwoman of the bid selection committee for the 2012 Summer Games. She also got a few minutes of Olympic glory when she carried the torch in Greenville.
