Olympic daybook: Friday's events
Friday's events
- Alpine skiing, Park City Mountain Resort: 10 a.m., women's giant slalom, first run; 1 p.m., women's giant slalom, second run.
- Bobsled, Utah Olympic Park: 3:30 p.m, four-man.
- Curling, The Ice Sheet at Ogden: 9 a.m., men's bronze medal game, Sweden vs. Switzerland; 2:30 p.m., men's gold medal game, Canada vs. Norway.
- Men's ice hockey, E Center: noon, semifinal, Belarus vs. Canada; 4:15 p.m., semifinal, USA vs. Russia.
- Nordic combined, Soldier Hollow: 11 a.m., 7.5 km sprint.
- Speedskating, Utah Olympic Oval: noon, men's 10,000 meters.
Getting there:
- Car-pool or use the Mountain Venue Express.
- Olympic Medals Plaza, use mass transit or drive to an Olympic park-and-ride lot and ride the free shuttle to downtown.
- E Center, ride TRAX to Meadowbrook (3900 South) and from there take a free Olympic Shuttle. UTA bus routes 31, 34 and 37 also serve the E Center. Or drive to the park-and-walk lot on Decker Lake Drive reserved for the E Center.
- Soldier Hollow, drive to the park-and-ride lot on U-189 and 2400 South and ride the free shuttle.
- The Ice Sheet at Ogden, use UTA bus route 55 to the park-and-walk lot. Drivers can take I-15 north to exit 345. Turn right onto 24th Street and go to Harrison. Turn right, follow signs to the park-and-walk lot.
- For downtown Salt Lake venues, the east side of West Temple, between North Temple and South Temple, will serve as a pickup/drop off point for disabled persons.
Travel tips
- Avoid travel on eastbound I-80 in the morning and westbound travel in the afternoon.
- Avoid driving into Park City. Those going in to Park City, including day-skiers, should use the US-40 park-and-ride lot and free shuttles.
- In Kearns, access to 4800 West from 5400 South will be closed three hours before events begin at the speedskating oval. Only residents with no alternate routes should use 4800 West in the hours before and after events.
- In West Valley City, 3100 South is either closed or open only to local traffic between I-215 and Redwood Road.
- In Ogden, Harrison Boulevard, 24th Street, Country Hills Drive and other roads are expected to be congested in the hours before and after events.
