Deseret News is offering a year of extra activities

      The Deseret News, Utah's pioneering paper since 1850, also has pioneered in reaching out to the community through a wide array of special events.
      In celebration of 150 years of publication, all of the familiar Deseret News community relations programs will carry the anniversary slant during the next year. In addition, there will be a few other extras as well.
      Here's a partial list of things to watch for:

  • June 25 — 150th anniversary special section

  • July 4 — Celebrate America at Sugarhouse Park with the Utah Symphony, skydivers and fireworks.

  • July 14 — Deseret News night at the Utah Starzz

  • July 24 — 31st annual Deseret News marathon and 18th annual 10K road race; 150th Anniversary Open House with refreshments, prizes and activities after the Days of '47 Parade

  • Aug. 14 — Deseret News night at the Salt Lake Buzz

  • Sept. 27-29 — Deseret News Landscape Art Show, ZCMI Center

  • October-December — Deseret News Sub for Santa Program

  • November-December — 53rd annual Deseret News Ski and Snowboard School

  • Nov. 21 — 41st annual Deseret News Salute to Youth Concert with the Utah Symphony

  • Nov. 26-27 — 22nd annual Deseret News Messiah Sing-In

  • December — Christmas I Remember Best essay contest; Top Ten News Stories of the Year Contest

  • January-March 2001 — 41st annual Deseret News-KSL TV Sterling Scholar Awards

  • January-March — 25th annual Deseret News Utah Spelling Bee

  • April — Cover a Jazz Game Contest; Deseret News night at the Utah Jazz; announcement of All-State Prep Basketball Teams.
