Let's give all of the accolades to BYU and Utah a so-so ranking in pre-season. Then come bowl time Utah can be overachievers with their 7th bowl win and BYU , not having lived uo to thier lofty billing, can start a new string of bowl defeats.

Does the 6 pack refer to Marquis Wilson?

Wyoming is still laughing that they didn't make a bowl game :) I'm sure if Wyoming has a newspaper they are talking about Joe Glenn and how good a coach he is. So go make your comments there!

What was Johnson's record as a starter? And the best receivers? Until I see some results, I don't want to hear about the "best receiving corps in the MWC, blah, blah, blah". The Utes are going to be handed a whipping with Oregon State, UCLA, Louisville, New Mexico, TCU, and the mighty Cougs! The season will be mediocre at best!

Kyle, so great to see you come over to desnews to talk smack now. Get back to work at your telemarketing job at myfamily.com or tahitian noni or wherever it is you're working in happy valley. Just sit back and watch another 5-5 season from the mighty cougs

His record was 5-4. However, we all know a QB record is not indicative of just his accomplishments/faults. If you want to judge him look at what he actually did.
2005
finished No. 1 in the MWC and No. 4 in the nation in total offense (337.0 yards per game)
No. 2 in the MWC in passing yards per game (289.2 average) ... completed 63.6% of his passes (210-of-330) for 2,892 yards and 18 touchdowns ... 7 interceptions was tied for the fewest of any MWC QB ... four 300-yard passing games. Not to mention he had 478 rushing yards with an additional 8 rushing touchdowns. Pretty good for a sophmore(at the time. I think it is also noteworthy to mention that he has been on the MWC Academic team for the two years he has played. Add those stats and experience to any recieving core, and you just might have the best receiving core in teh MWC. GO UTES!

Of course they're talking about a six pack and Utah Football. Oh, and did they mention how many of those six-pack members have six packs under their booster seats in their cars? It's sad when the players are just as wasted as the teenage Frat boys that attend the games. Someone has to keep the reputation going and luckily Wilson stepped up this year. Goe Utetah Fuutbolll!
Cosmo | 11:47 a.m. Aug. 10, 2007
Hey Antz, are you kidding? Don't bring your "holier than thou" attitude when you drink caffeinated Mountain Dew at BYU slumber parties when the girls leave at 8:30, if they even show up at all. While our players have been practicing hard to win the MWC crown this summer, yours are breaking down doors to beat down water baloon pranksters and calling themselves Fifi Tonga. If Johnson was 3rd in the nation 2 years ago, imagine what he has planned for this year baby!!! GO UTES!!!
Patrick | 12:44 p.m. Aug. 10, 2007
Okay, okay. Let's remember who the top QB in the MWC was in 2005. Brian Johnson? Erh! Wrong! John Beck trumped Brian Johnson in every category except ypg (by only 23 yards). Superior numbers only yielded 6 wins. Doh! You should be the first to know that numbers do not equal W's. You've got to do what it takes to win, not to make yourself look good. Brian Johnson is going to have trouble seeing the six pack at all with Brian Kehl and David Nixon in his face every down. The Brian Johnson show is going to be running to their bus with their tails between their legs and they won't look back until they've passed the point of the mountain after the Cougars' COMPLETE TEAM have torn them to shreds.

Johnson's plan for this year is to not get hurt. If he gets lucky and throws a couple of good passes in the meantime it'll be just that - luck.

There's some cooger fans in here desperately looking for attention.
Cosmo | 1:44 p.m. Aug. 10, 2007
Pat- who the heck is Brian Kehl and David Nixon? Are those other names Tonga gave the police when he was arrested? Assuming they play for BYU, I feel bad for them already, I hope they attended ERIC WEDDLE'S camp this summer before he was drafted into the NFL. With someone with Weddle's talent, BYU may be able to compete with the Utes. Speaking of the game down in happy valley this fall, when was the last time Utah lost at Cosmo's playhouse? I know it is a sensitive issue so no pressure to respond if you start crying (didn't Beck used to cry after games, or was that Fifi Tonga?)

I am so excited to watch BYU games this year. Every Saturday is like Christmas! BYU will knock them down! I hope BYU beats their opponents like the Luke Skywalker beats the Dark Lord Darth Caedus during the Battle of the Galactic Empire!

You just single handedly justified every stereotype that I've ever given to zoobies. Thank you. Good luck with your little fantasy world. In case you haven't heard, watching ANY MWC football game on Saturday will be a challenge since the commissioner screwed us.

Chris said BJ's record as a starter was 5-4 so I'm just curious which of the 5 games that he started and lost is he leaving out. Probably a painful loss, maybe New Mexico since yew can't seem to beat them. BJ was in fact 5-5 as a starter and you can go to his player bio on the Yewt football website to verify.

Apparently some guys are good at compiling stats while other guys are good at winning games. When you can do both, your name is John Beck. But, in consolation BJ would have made a nice handy backup for JB.
Sealver Siliga | 7:20 p.m. Aug. 10, 2007
After reading these negative comments by Yewt fans and the pressure I feel they put on me I'm going to change my mind and committ to the Cougars instead.
Me | 10:13 p.m. Aug. 10, 2007
Hmmm, Ralphie, your comments are very intriguing. You comment on BJ's sohpmore stats and then bring up John Beck, who was, coincidentally, 5-6 his sophmore year.
Are you sure JB was that much better than BJ? I'm not.

But, seeing as how BYU fans are trying soooo desperately to make bold predictions, this isn't surprising.
The anti-zoobie | 2:23 a.m. Aug. 11, 2007
Enjoy the Bonco and Dick show for as long as you can. The balloon will first pop after the Az game, it will be shredded BJ and the Utes lay waste to LES in November.

Utah will play well this year. Fans of the home-economics insitution down south are talking so much smack because they know last year was a fluke. GO UTES!

While it is true that John Beck was a "good" quarterback, it is also true that he was not a "great" quarterback. A "great" quarterback would not have lost the two games last year that BYU lost. Granted, he was able to come back against Utah last year but a "great" quarterback would not have let his team even get in the situation where they had to make a come back. Enough with Beck. He was good but not great. Throw out the numbers - who cares - as stated above, numbers don't mean much when you aren't winning games.
Ute Fan | 10:02 p.m. Aug. 13, 2007
why do all of these byu fans expect to win with a quarterback who has never taken a snap. they will be lucky if they win two games
thecook | 8:42 a.m. Aug. 16, 2007
I love to read all of your comments because most of you think you know so much about what is going on!
Harvey Roberson | 3:28 p.m. Aug. 29, 2007
Brian Johnson is the best QB in the MWC and this guy John Beck dont stand a chance against him Stevie Wonder could see that but just keep watching and you will see for yourself when they beat OSU Aug. 30,2007 and they will win.
