Garfield County voted 90% for Bush? WOW how embarrassing..
BTW I love Boulder, its one of my favorite places. Hopefully it won't be ruined by development like everyone in Utah wants

Boulder, together with Garfield and Wayne Counties are one of the last bastions of beauty, wilderness, and freedom left in this entire country. This has been the home away from home for many of our immediate family for over 50 years. Some of our best friends, and some of the best people we know live between Loa and Boulder. It is also our happy hunting and fishing grouds. God bless that intire country and it's inhabitants.

Boulder Mt. and the plateau that creates it's highline was once called thousand lake mountain and the peaks NW of Torrey listed as Boulder Mtn. And then by a slip of hand or a visual miscue by a map maker, the two were flipped and Thousand Lake Mt. with few water holes became just that, and Boulder Mt. with some boulders - of course - and many lakes, became Boulder Mt. and the town followed in tow. Not that long ago that the road between Torrey and Boulder was finally paved and the Hwy 12 circuit opened.
The area around Boulder is truly amazing - but Garfield county needs "citizens to match the scenery" . To date they have fought wilderness designation, pressed the psuedo paving of the Burr trail and annually launced ATV jamborees. In Boulder property values and the cost of land has skyrocketed and the cost of staying in the "listed" lodging is not cheap. FYI, during the spring, summer season there are a few other OK places to eat, and even lodge at. Camping under the stars though is the real treat - if you know where to travel. On the whole, a nice"feminine" article!

Boulder is still a ranching community. Because
of the cowboys we have wide open spaces.
The Restaurants are nice but they are not all of the Boulder community. Most Boulder people are not Buddhist or Mormons but a general populace.
We like our small town and are not looking for development. Hopefully the developers will get a
grip on how beautiful Boulder is and not ruin it.

Boulder, Utah!! It's too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter and too far from everything. The Buddies chant all night and the Christians sing all day. They have weeds and hardly any asphalt and a bunch of steep hills and you might as well leave your high heels at home. Take my advise and keep going to Phoenix.

Between this article and the other (Boulder, solitude, kinship) you have captured the myth very well.

It seem your article is slanted. Niether Blake or her friends own the grill it belongs to Dave Mock and the Burr Trail Grill is owned by Gib Smith and as for the mayor he has not lived here as long as many other residents and he is a developer , he has bought land up in lower boulder and subdivide the and sold it for a profit.Next time talk to a few other people here for the facts of both sides.

Was this article about Boulder the Town, or Blake Spalding and the Hell's Backbone Grill? Thank You Anonymous for setting a few of the facts straight, Dave Mock, Gibb Smith, and yes our local Mayor/Developer. While we are at it, Blake has not changed the face of Boulder, she brings in 15-20 people yearly that come mostly from Flagstaff AZ and live illegally and unsanitarily in tents and cars, until the Town finally threatened to do something about it, she was forced to provide houseing for her out of town seasonal employees. Yes, Blake and some of her employee's claim to be Buddhist, but the Monks have been coming here to Boulder and the Boulder Mt Lodge for many years, long before Blake or her family and friends came here, matter of fact when the same resturaunt was under different management!
I really wish that when you write an article about a place, you would talk to more than just the people who are begging for your publicity, generally the honest truth is found else where!

the next morning we woke up with the birds chirping, we had a great time out on the back deck that overlooks a bird sanctuary. we had breakfast at hell's backbone diner. and we were off on another adventure.
but we've been back to boulder many times. we even had some business dealings with a man who teaches survival techniques & naps his own flint knives.
boulder is beautiful! i think everyone should visit, but very few should stay.
