Let's go Utah!

I am stoked for the game.

Mack rushes for 120, Johnson throws 3 TDs.

Navy has shown a porous defense all season.

Should be an entertaining, high scoring football game.

I hope ESPN on DSTV-South Africa runs the game. I will be awake watching, or following the play-by-play from the internet if they don't. Go Utes!!!

GO UTES!!!!!!
show the nation? | 9:54 a.m. Dec. 20, 2007
B Johnson says he excited to play on national tv and show the nation what they're all about. Show the nation? Like all sports fans are going to be glued to this game? Hahahaha, I don't think so!

As a side note, be careful what you wish for BJ. You better hope the nation doesn't get to see a repeat of the UNLV game because sometimes that's what the Utes are all about!
sweet music | 9:58 a.m. Dec. 20, 2007
"Their only loss since Sept. 22 was a 17-10 setback at BYU on Nov. 24. The latter was a bitter defeat..."

music to my ears...
excuses | 10:00 a.m. Dec. 20, 2007
"A victory would cap an injury-plagued season with a 9-4 record..."

Stop with the excuses already! Injury this, injury that...hey, every team has injuries during the season!!
Anonymous | 10:01 a.m. Dec. 20, 2007
Go Utes!! We are pulling for you in Dallas, Texas!
pretty sad | 10:02 a.m. Dec. 20, 2007
"...a 9-4 record — a win plateau the program has only reached five times before."

Wow, that's pretty sad. Almost embarrassing to mention an "accomplishment" like that...
Hey show the Nation | 10:06 a.m. Dec. 20, 2007
clearly another Cougar fan that has to find a way to bash the Utes.......enjoy that 8-16-1 Bowl recrd that may soon be 8-17-1

re "Show the Nation" | 10:21 a.m. Dec. 20, 2007
Be careful about ridiculing the comment. In essence, Max Hall said the same thing in yesterday's paper only he added "we can prove we can play with ANYONE in the nation" as if playing with a 6-6 (soon to be 6-7) team means anything.

Either both Hall and Johnson are idiots with these comments or both aren't. We can't criticize one without the other and claim any kind of objectivity.
J | 10:27 a.m. Dec. 20, 2007
it's nice to see the yoots excited about what little they have.
RE: SHOW THE NATION | 10:28 a.m. Dec. 20, 2007
Hey, at least this bowl game has some meaning, that is being the first game of the bowl season. I know that doesn't mean it is a top notch game pitting two amazing teams, and I know that the "big bowls" are at the end, but after two and a half weeks of no college football a lot of people will be tuning in just to see the game of football be played. BYU's game is on Saturday when 3 other games are being played and is more likely to be overlooked by the "nation." In fact, I was reading the "bowl preview" section from a national news source and for some reason the BYU-UCLA game was nowhere to be found. They must have accidentally forgot this game while mentioning 31 others. Big game?
"re show the nation" | 10:29 a.m. Dec. 20, 2007
not to mention that 6-6 team byu is playing has already beaten byu once this season...........what makes anyone think byu can beat them this time? byu should win that game but i for one wont be shocked if they lose...........again.
BYU Fans Get a Grip! | 10:35 a.m. Dec. 20, 2007
This may come as a shock to all of you self-absorbed BYU fans....this article isn't about your team!!! Your little comments just show how much free time you have on your hands....it's a long wait until Saturday's game when your team will be in the headlines, huh? You should all get over yourselves and save your sniveling comments for your own articles.
lame | 10:39 a.m. Dec. 20, 2007
GO NAVY!!!!!!!!!!! the midshipmen are for real, i love how everyone talks about the past and what should have been, like that matters, a loss is a loss its the game being played in the now thats important. just because byu lost once to ucla this year doesnt mean a whole lot. Navy smacked air force and air force beat utah so that means that navy should beat utah, no it doesnt get a clue people. GO NAVY!!!
Spell Check | 10:43 a.m. Dec. 20, 2007
Attention all BYU fans: All of your creativity in spelling the word UTE is really lame!! Do you think it hurts our feelings if you spell the name wrong? Do you lay awake nights coming up with a new spin on an old trick? It's sad, really. You should stop.

By the way, you live under a rock if you think your game is the hottest thing on tv Saturday. Stop making yourselves a WAY bigger deal than you are. It's getting old......
Happy for all | 10:55 a.m. Dec. 20, 2007
The Mountain West has not had much favorable press nationally. Shouldn't we want all the Mountain West teams to do well? I am a Ute! I like to see the Y do well except for one weekend in November. Can't we all just get along?
re excuses | 11:01 a.m. Dec. 20, 2007
hey excuses, that is easy for you to say, more than likely your team (byu) came out fortunate without too many injuries. Losing some of your best players on offense does make a difference.
Get real BYU fans | 11:03 a.m. Dec. 20, 2007
BYU fans,

Once and for all I'd like to introduce you all to REALITY. The fact is this: you play in a weak conference with empty stadiums everywhere you go except at home. Frankly, I am done watching the MWC, period. They (meaning the school presidents, including yours) have made some really bad descisions that if left uncorrected will leave every team in the conference playing DII (or whatever it is called now).

No exposure, no votes for top 25. No exposure, no national recruits and no large companies with big advertising dollars. The quality of players and the games are spiraling down and will continue to do so.

So BYU fans, you sound like a high-school kid bragging about beating up a grade school kid. You will be silenced when UCLA beats you (again).
MHL | 11:12 a.m. Dec. 20, 2007
I find it interesting that we can substitute Hall's comments with Johnson's and the Ute fans and Cougars fans.

Both players said basically teh same thing. Hall said it first and Ute fans jumped all over him for it and BYU fans get upset. Now when Johnson says it BYU fans say the same thing and Ute fans get upset.

To fans on both sides - it goes both ways. If you can't take it don't dish it out.

BTW I'm a Cougar fan first & foremost, but I'll be cheering for a Ute win. It will help show that the MWC is legitimate. Let's Go Cougars, Utes, Falcons, Horned Frongs and Lobos. Go MWC!
SBender | 11:12 a.m. Dec. 20, 2007
Hey Utes, you are playing a team that has beaten a top tier D-1 program in Notre Dame. That is more than any MWC team can say in any year. Navy will not be stopped. Isn't the MWC division 1-AA?
Happy for all | 11:15 a.m. Dec. 20, 2007
Thank you for making my point. Anyone that wants to see the conference be successful should want all the MWC teams to win all nonconference games. More wins means more exposure. Less wins means less exposure.
Getting Real | 11:38 a.m. Dec. 20, 2007
Man, you have posted that several times over the past few months, and twice today. Get a smile. Reading your post is like reading something from Eyore...

Reality for you -- Games are going to be played.

Let em play.

"Hey Utes, you are playing a team that has beaten a top tier D-1 program in Notre Dame. That is more than any MWC team can say in any year. Navy will not be stopped. Isn't the MWC division 1-AA?"

Ummm...I think you need to research your sports "facts" a little better. Air Force beat ND this year quite easily whereas Navy struggled to do it in 3 OT's after 43 years of losing to them.
Utah | 11:45 a.m. Dec. 20, 2007
BYU fans are a joke, your playing a 6-6 UCLA team who might not even have their starting QB. The MWC is division 1 and its the best conference outside the BCS. Utah beat the number 4 team in the nation earlier and beat Louiseville. Our injuries in the first game made us lose to OSO and Air Force. If we had our two starting HB and QB we should of won. BYU should rather play a team with a winning record in their bowl game. I mean UCLA lost to ND.
A Ute Loss | 11:53 a.m. Dec. 20, 2007
Predication:

Utes worry to much about penalties rather than defending 4th down and lose the game!!
re Utah | 11:55 a.m. Dec. 20, 2007
Wow where in the world did your rant come from? BYU did try to get a better (or at least a different) opponent than UCLA but couldn't get out of the deal. Ever heard of a little thing called a contract? Please try to keep up with the news on these things, thank you very much.
Getting Real - Continued | 11:59 a.m. Dec. 20, 2007
Additionally, if you are so "done watching the MWC, period.", then why are you reading articles about the Utes and bashing the BYU fans?

Your comment "No exposure, no votes for top 25." Check your facts. BYU is ranked #17 in the BCS and ranked in both of the other polls.

Go Utes and Cougars!!
BYU Fan | 12:01 p.m. Dec. 20, 2007
Good luck to Utah. I am a BYU fan but I also want to root for my fellow Utah team. the Utes are only the bad guys when they play BYU.
re: Sbender | 12:04 p.m. Dec. 20, 2007
Please just keep your comments to yourself if you don't know what you're talking about. ND is no top tier team this year. BYU should have scheduled them this year and then they could have beaten a "top teir" team!

Go Utes!
Utr Fans | 12:23 p.m. Dec. 20, 2007
Who are you playing tonight, Navy or BYU?

Keep thinking that way.

Old habits are hard to break...
Utah beats Navy! | 1:05 p.m. Dec. 20, 2007
Good luck to UTAH!
BEAT NAVY!
Random Thoughts | 1:41 p.m. Dec. 20, 2007
1. Utes are 2-1 against BCS teams this year. The 2 wins were blowouts (Louisville rallied late to make it close). The only loss was on the road and were leading until they lost starting RB and QB. Tough for any road team to overcome.

2. Navy loses to Wake, Ball State, Delaware, and Rutgers and their coach jumps for a better offer. Can you imagine Whit or Bronco getting any promotion losing to Ball St and Delaware in the same year? Navy is not a top program.

3. The BYU - Utah rivalry is great but some posts are embarrasing for both teams. I could care less who won 10, 20, 30 years ago or who has the best head-to-head record. BYU won this year. We can gloat (I'm a Y fan) but we play again next year and this time in SLC. Gotta love it!

4. Two teams have held BYU to less than 20 points, Utah and UCLA. UCLA was still healthy and had 10 returning starters and projected the best D in the Pac-10. Utah's defense is for real. Utes put the hurt on Navy.

5. For all of our sakes, Go MWC!!
Ewets | 1:51 p.m. Dec. 20, 2007
It doesn't matter who Utah is playing, I will always cheer against them. Some of the Ewet fans are just obnoxious. You can't cheer for your teams without putting down everyone else. I hope Navy tears you a new one and they wipe that smug look off of Whittingham's face.
Whoa Nellie | 2:01 p.m. Dec. 20, 2007
Hey Mr. Facer,
How can Utah's loss to BYU last month be considered a "bitter defeat"? It was expected.

It seems Utah got the better bowl to play in. Who wouldn't rather play in San Diego than Las Vegas? They got a better opponent when all is considered and a much better location to play a game in December. As hard as it is for me to state this I expect Utah to beat Navy by 10 points because Utah has a legitimate defense and a great kicking game. And I hope all the MWC teams win their respective bowl games. Nothing compares to college football.
re ewets | 2:08 p.m. Dec. 20, 2007
You crack me up. You post a comment insulting us and hoping we get torn a "new one" and then call us obnoxious. Holy hypocrite folks. At least you made us laugh.
re excuses | 2:08 p.m. Dec. 20, 2007
losing your starting runningback, qb, wr, lineman, those are tough injuries. It not like they all were nicked up for a few games with bad ankles, its broken legs and blown knees. those injuries are tough to cope with. Come on now.
RE: Ewets - Grow up? | 2:16 p.m. Dec. 20, 2007
RE: Ewets - What is a "Ewets"?

That is the pot calling the kettle black if you ask me. It goes both ways with obnoxious fans. Right now for once we should all be cheering for one another, we should want the conference to do well in bowl games. It has no affect on the season past or next season. Grow up all you fans that have so much hate, its a dang game.

GO MWC and especially GO UTES!!!!!
Ewets - Hypocrite | 2:33 p.m. Dec. 20, 2007
The first three sentences in your post make you a hypocrite, an obnoxious hypocrite. It is also just more proof that there are few true Cougar fans, only self righteous, holier than though, judgemental (oh, and I am an active, card-carrying member of the LDS Church), Ute haters.
Utah grad, BYU fan | 2:34 p.m. Dec. 20, 2007
Go get 'em Utes. Sink Navy!
Utes | 2:47 p.m. Dec. 20, 2007
The only team that will get sinked tonight is Utah! Hahahahaha
response to "BYU Fans Get a Grip | 3:02 p.m. Dec. 20, 2007
To the dude who wrote "Hey BYU Fans" you make me laugh you say BYU plays to empty stadiums whereever they go. Sure that is why the vegas bowl sold out even before the invite. UTah hasn't sold half their alloted tickets to their bowl game. I guess it is tough when the game is out of state and they can't give tickets away at the local high schools. BYU is getting big time national recruits. You also said "no top 25 votes" last I checked BYU was 17th in the BCS. Thank you for not watching any more as you are 1 brewski away from passing out. Go Navy!
bowl games | 3:18 p.m. Dec. 20, 2007
Well there's supposed to be some bowl game played tonught I guess. I believe it's called the Irrelevant Bowl. Funny how the last player chosen in the draft is labeled "Mr. Irrelevant" but in college bowl games it's always the 1st one that's the least relevant. Go Navy. Go Utes. Rah. Zzzzzz....
SoonerCougarJr. | 3:34 p.m. Dec. 20, 2007
Actually, I think there are a good number of good BYU fans, meaning fans who support their team no matter what and don't irrationally root against or (even worse) throw petty insults at their rival team when they're playing out of conference or in a bowl situation. Unfortunately, there are a few turds in the barrel that make the waters unpalatable.

Attention Cougar fans: If Utah wins, it's good for BYU!

Here's hoping Utah pulls off a big win tonight against Navy.

There's usually only one game a year when I root against the Utes.

A 5-0 showing in this year's bowl matchups for the MWC would be awesome.
Ewets | 3:34 p.m. Dec. 20, 2007
I apluad you for your record in bowl games. 9-3 is a great record.

I am looking forward to it being 10-3 since it is good for the conference.

Just remember you have a long way to go before you catch BYU in numbers. 8-16-1 even with thier crappy post season play they have been there almost three times as often. While you dream of having another 9 win season BYU is dreaming of another championship.

While you look forward to the final game of the regular season BYU see it as just another game. You have 1 Rivaly game per year while BYU plays 8 teams who are gunning for them.

Oh ya if you start to actually play some decent teams in the bowl games like a Michigan, Florida State, Ohio State then lets see how your record goes then. Navy, HA they let ND score all over them.

So good luck on what should be an easy win for your good D. Just dont give up the 4th and 18 option.

Always a ute | 4:17 p.m. Dec. 20, 2007
oh man i love getting on here and seeing everone go at it! its the same thing on both sides! you see equal amounts of bashing. im a ute fan, i absolutley despise byu.... but i seriously don't think its worth my time getting on here and trying to bad mouth the other team (as much as i would like to). and to fellow ute fans. maybe we should all just let it go. as much as i love the utes i could care less how many times we lose to BYU, they need it more than we do. i just love watching my team play. heres to a great game tonight in san diego!
GO UTES!
