Honestly....who is shocked by this?

I am just thankful there wasn't a Rocky III.

I live in Oregon and follow Utah politics a bit. I have to tell you Utah folks that Rocky is a joke in this liberal state. I admire anyone who stands up for what they believe in and maybe Rocky really believes in this cause, but I believe it is an abuse of his political office to support and participate in these activities while he holds office. I will be thrilled when his tenure if over so that SLC won't be the laughing stock of the nation because of a loony mayor.

To paraphrase a common advertising slogan.

"Bad to the last drop"
Patrick | 2:05 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Nobody should be shocked by how corrupt our government is.
People Who Need People | 2:11 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Now there is some political gravitas and a pair of darn-good crooners: Harry Belafonte and Ralph Nadir.

Rocky, if Babs shows I hope you whip out your guitar and launch into "Send in the Clowns" in four-part harmony.

You've been auditioning for the big stage for years. You're ready. This could be your big break.
JimJ | 5:19 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Rocky - please just go away. I thought after Dee Dee things could not get worse. But I am amazed at just how much worse it got. What a total embarassment to the city, state and nation.
May he be gone forever.
Camille | 5:20 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Of course he would. This isn't news.
vern | 5:47 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Hey rocky! !wake up from your stupor.wake up and be somebody.
Bob M. | 5:55 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
I'd like to thank Rocky Anderson for standing up to the President.
Chris J | 6:28 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
I'm not shocked, just saddened that Salt Lake City elected a Mayor that doesn't represent its values.
LSU Alum | 6:45 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Anderson could very well be the most divisive elected official Utah has ever seen. Perhaps he'll go the way of Dee Dee and disappear from the state.
Honestly.... | 7:15 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
you say that like this is a bad thing.

SOMEONE ought to be forcing Congress to look at the crimes against our Constitution by this regime.

What I have always liked about Rocky is that is he is fearless. And he has convictions. He is the complete opposite of a sheep.
SLC Resident | 7:15 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Rockie, please, just go away.

I thought a newspaper was primarily supposed to inform its readers, then maybe entertain and get them to think. The topic of this article was as obvious as the fact that we need oxygen to survive. The article neither informs, entertains, or causes us to think. What a waste of newsprint.
Mark S | 7:33 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
I agree Bosoxnut, how is this news? Rocky has been traveling the nation the last couple of years focusing his time on promoting impeachment of Bush. The headline makes it sound like he was just persuaded now.
John | 7:34 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
We celebrated in our home that he is finally no longer the mayor...Rocky please move to San Fransico or Vermont and leaves us alone.
No more Rocky | 8:17 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Why doesn't Rocky impeach himself for not doing his job.
Rich | 8:23 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Finally, Some got enough courage and guts to realy stand up to the Bush Adm. to bad it just took this long. This should have happened the first day they found out that Iraq did not have any "weapons of mass distruction."
Keith, California | 8:24 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Rocky, you have a fine group of people mentioned with your name. I wonder how many readers know just who these people are. As they say, birds of a feather flock together.
Anonymous | 8:27 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
GOOD FOR ROCKY! He is a great American!
alan keele | 8:29 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
I think history will show that Anderson and his fellow signers of this document were absolutely on target; all their allegations against the Bush administration are valid. It is remarkable that so many Utahns who believe themselves to be patriotic could have been totally blind to the fact that Bush's behavior has been the greatest threat in history so far to the American Constitution and to our highest values.
Anonymous | 8:40 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
I love that Rocky is standing up for our country. And to Oregon resident, good thing he doesn't represent you, huh? Because i am a SLC resident and fully support Rocky's activities. He wasn't as effective as he could have been but he was effective, and will be in the future.

And i don't know what part of Oregon you are in, but my SLC-turned-OR friends comment often that Rocky was one of the very best things about living in SLC.
sb | 8:43 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Perhaps each of those asking for an examination of the president's behavior should also have some kind of probe or examination concerning their conduct in the positions they have held. The president makes decisions based on the information presented to him. Perhaps it is those people who provide the president with the information he uses to make decisions by who need to be among those held accountable for the quality of information they present to him.
Rocky... | 8:46 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Somewhere...someplace Bollwinkle is rolling over in his grave.
Mike | 8:53 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Bravo to Rocky for once again pointing out the obvious vacuum of representative leadership at the federal level. Conservatives in Utah cry foul and call "embarrassment to the state" when finally we have a strong voice for the underrepresented (nay....historically non-represented) centrists and liberals in Utah.
Anonymous | 9:16 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Rocky was a good mayor who did a good job conducting city business. The hatred towards him is irrational and it is hatred. It betrays the mormon/christian ideal to love. Bush on the other hand is an incompetent warmongering torturer who has bankrupted this nation. Too many people here are willing to follow him of the cliff. It's hard to understand.
Mike...non-represented....? | 9:59 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
HUH....? MSNBC...NBC...CBS...ABC...CNN (and if you don't believe these channels or slanted heavily in the favor of liberal, do some research)...VS FOX News, and FOX Cleans all of their collective clocks. To say that you are non-represented is just silly. The problem is the people that think like you do (not all but most) get their political ideology from their favorite actor/rap artist/swooner (see belafonte and streisand) you can't sustain a serious communication channel be it radio (see air america)or tv, because liberals 'tend" to avoid the real work, and if the political equivalent of a math formula is more than 2 + 2 they will just watch MTV, and wait for the answer.
Vamos | 10:02 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
All the allegations in this letter are right on target. For far too long their has been zero accountability for obvious criminal behavior in the White House.

Rocky and all his co-signers on this letter are true patriots; what a contrast to the phony patriots like Bush who wear trite flag lapel pins while they do all they can to destroy the Constitution and moral values that used to make this nation great. More power to them, and shame on the cowardly Utah partisans who would also destroy the Constitution for their blatant political bias.
WC | 10:03 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Rocky was great for our city. Those of you who see otherwise either don't live here or don't understand what he has done for our image nationally. We finally have some hope to be separated from the crazies in the rest of the state. People seem to think Salt Lake is the sane place it is amongst the insanity of this state. Thank you Rocky!
Bumper Sticker Mentality | 10:06 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Last time I checked Rocky Anderson wasn’t an expert in constitutional law. His cry for a Bush impeachment is nothing but politics by a liberal. For the last seven years I have heard nothing but impeach Bush by liberals and a history professor acquaintance (who graduated from Cal Berkeley) was talking impeachment before Bush even was elected.

Anderson and his buddies on the left are still angry about the 2000 election because it didn’t go their way. Those same liberals thought it was their birthright to have Gore in office.

Rocky won’t be missed by many and will be an afterthought in Utah politics 20 years from now.
No more Bush | 10:07 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Way to go Rocky. Unfortunately, the Bush Administration has bushed up the country. This tragic experience will haunt our children, grand children, and great grand children …et.al…
Karl | 10:15 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Most all news organizations in America are owned by the same right wing companys. A few years ago it was impossible to hear any news organizations talk ill about the Bush administration because they would be branded traitors and be ostrisized by their employers. Most radio stations still can't play Dixie Chicks music for the same reasons.
At least Rocky has the guts to try and pull America back on Track from the disasterious Bush administration. Those who don't like Rocky are they same group thinkers who think they are Gods favored people because they vote for people like wonderfull Bush. It makes me laugh.
Watching from Texas | 10:19 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
What will we do without you Rocky? You've been the nations political clown.

From the comments above it's plain to see that you CAN fool some of the people all of the time. Rocky's supporters need to get a clue.. they're be off his payroll shortly.

I'm going to get a new bumper sticker for my car this week. It'll say, "Rocky Who?"

Good bye to the Rockster.. he won't be missed.
Hopefully the next mayor... | 10:24 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
@WC et all: Rocky has done a lot for Salt Lake City. Get national attention for himself while finding every way he can to offend those living around SLC. What the people of SLC don't realize is that in a large part, it is those offended 'outsiders' from the rest of the valley/state that travel to, work, and spend money in SLC so that SL residents can have a place to work and a great tax base.

Hopefully the next mayor will worry less about his image nationally and more about the city's image amoung those around it. I'm sure the businesses of SLC, and their employees will apreciate it.
Re: WC | 10:31 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Read above post from the Oregon Utahn.

That should clear up you misinformation regarding SLC's reputation.

Who cares about our reputation anyway? It is the same sound-byte Rocky uses for how the Bush administration has ruined our reputation with the rest of the world.
WOOP-T-DOO!
Europe doesn't like us? They didn't before Bush! They haven't since the end of WW-I! Who cares?! Their economy is in ruins, they have nothing to offer nor nothing to compete with. They would all be speaking GERMAN if it wasn't for great Americans (whom Rocky INSULTED!).
Looking for a cabinet post | 10:32 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
I can't help but wonder if Rocky Anderson's attack on the Bush administration is more self-serving than anything else. Perhaps, Anderson is looking for a cabinet position in a future Clinton or Obama administraton. Perhaps, he's looking for a government post like EPA director, Solicitor General, or U.S. Attorney for Utah.

The fact is, Bush will be president for only one more year, so the odds of him being impeached are about as good as Don Imus being elected the next president. That's why I wonder what the true intentions are of people like Anderson in continually going after President Bush. I'm NOT saying he has no right to. Of course he does! But what are his true motivations?
WMD? | 10:33 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
No WMD huh?

Did the UN ever verify Sadam dismantled the chemical weapons he used against the Kurds and the Iranians?

nope.

If it smells like a rat...
Bumper Sticker Mentality: | 10:36 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
So you have to be a constitutional expert to want accountability from the president? Only the experts get visibility into what their government is doing? What an inane arguement, and typical of the narrow minded Utah partisan.

Any guy off the street can discern the lying and cover ups of the Bush administration. Numerous criminal scandels have come to light via a some brave whistleblowers and they cannot be fully investigated because Bush hides behind an unprecedented wall of secrecy, even ignoring subpeonas from Congress; if Bush has nothing to hide why won't he allow some scrutiny (surveillance) from the public he is supposed to be serving? Only blind partisans like those in Utah would try to defend such criminal thugs in the Bush cabal.
One of "those people up North" | 10:38 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Now I can start spending money in SLC again.

Sorry to all the businesses I did not patronize these past years but your Mayor was looking out for his best interests, not yours and the residents.

With any luck, your new mayor will have a little more sense and your city can begin to prosper again. I will gladly spend my money if your new mayor is a little more respectful of others.
Re: Looking for a cabinent post | 10:40 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
What? Rocky has other motivations? He doesn't mean exactly what he says?
NO!
Ed | 11:07 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
I feel bad for Rocky. He craves the spotlight and now that he is no longer going to be mayor he is quickly going to become irrelevant. Say what you want to about President Bush.....When a sitting President comes to town and you can't do anything but organize an outside rally to rail against his policies that is pathetic. I am no Bush lover but at least show some class and dignity. Why can't we, when we do disagree, at least do it with some class? Does anyone remember the rallies at the park? Jeez it reminded me of junior high. Pretty sad. Rocky is on his way to becoming a moot point. For that I am grateful.
Mike | 11:31 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Goodbye Rocky! I'm really going to miss your anti-war/anti-Bush activism that made you such a great mayor. Where were you during Vietnam? Too bad you weren't mayor then too....then maybe you could have made a real difference then...after all...we elected you to run a city...not become the national anti-everything spokesman you became as mayor! Good luck getting back together with your ACLU buddies. I can't wait to see you with Al Gore or some other crazy person!
Let's see | 11:35 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Ed,

Let's see, Bush, who has single-handidly done more to destroyed the Constitution and our freedoms than any other person, comes to town and we are supposed to honor him? Forget it. Bush has done more to destroy the great government our founding fathers had the forsesight to set up than any other president ever. Any and all protests against this criminal president are not only patriotic, but are incumbent upon us as free-breathing Americans who value Constitutional freedoms. You may choose to honor tyrants, but many of us true patriots do not. Protest is more than our right in this situation.
a Utah citizen | 11:38 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
I pity Rocky. He must hate President Bush. I hope I never hear or see Rocky's face in print or media again. I shudder to think what would have happened to this country if Al Gore had been President during these last trying years!!!!
Re: Let's see | 11:41 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Lucky you that you get to rub shoulders with Hollywood while protesting. They are, afterall, the greatest this country has to offer.
Cry me a stream! | 11:43 a.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Some people just need to learn to mind their own business and let someone else take the lead without interference from a has been. No wants to hear volumes and verses from a crumbling Rocky road.
a Utah citizen: | 12:07 p.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Did it ever occur to you that these last 7 years are trying years because Bush is at the helm? He has done more to destroy our nation than any other president. Objective scholars working as historians are already ranking Bush 3rd from the bottom, only two other presidents worse in our history (the worst ranking was James Buchannan, who sent Johnson's army against the Mormons). An object look at Bush reveals many criminal acts and destructive public policies over his time. Almost everything he has done has turned out to be destructive. I would challenge anyone to point to a sane public policy he promoted.
MTM | 12:25 p.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Shame that a mayor would stoop so low. President Bush has done everything he can to protect our country, despite all the flack from the left.
Cluber Lane | 12:43 p.m. Jan. 5, 2008
Rocky hasn't been in the news for a month or so and is due to get in some free publicity. Rocky is making a run to get into a Demoratic Presidential Cabinet. He just enjoys hearing himself talk.
