The folks from Tooele are correct. SLCC does a very poor job of serving them, if at all. The problem is that the SLCC pay and management setup does not allow extra pay for teachers who travel out there to teach. For that reason, none of us adjunct instructors can afford to teach in Tooele. It cost more in gas than the college would pay us. If the merger does go through, SLCC must address this problem.

As a person who has been following the merger of SLT-ATC with SLCC, I am convinced that this merger will do nothing but help Tooele students by exposing them to the plentiful resources of SLCC, including its excellent faculty. Plus, it would save the state quite a lot of money per student, which makes fiscal sense.
It would be a shame if the merger did not go through simply because SLT-ATC administrators decide to ostracize Tooele students rather than give them the best opportunity for advancement and eventually success.
And with regard to the current adjunct pay and management policy, I'm sure SLCC administration will find a way to fairly compensate its instructors.

"The community college is providing the same programs, the same role and the same mission that we have the Salt Lake-Tooele ATC providing." --But Salt Lake-Tooele ATC has been doing a better job. SLCC will take over SLTATC's program and destroy it.
