Thanks for writing about these guys -- this story made me laugh, since I used to be a firefighter. The pranks really are a way of coping with the bad things you see on the job. And you DO see it all!

So any guesses on how long it will be before these pranks go too far and we end up with a hazing scandal like the one at East High?

Look to the west coast for a sobering lesson about firehouse pranks:
-$1.4 million paid to the victim of a prank;
-$1.6 million paid to supervisors who allowed the prank to happen, then alleged that they were unfairly disciplined.
-Another $1-2 million in legal fees.
-22 more lawsuits waiting in the wings.
-Damaged reputations and disgust and distrust from the taxpayers who foot the bill in this time of financial crisis. It's not worth it.

It would appear that these folks don't have enough to do during a typical workday.
