Downtown Salt Lake City has historically been the center of culture, dining and national tours, and still is. Lets not muddy the waters and send mixed messages on where the capitol city and all its amenities can be found. The Salt Lake Chamber has spoken out in favor of downtown, so since two competing venues would probably cause them to both fail, lets rally behind the Downtown Rising initiative and put a Broadway level theatre downtown.

I also agree with Steve (quite adamantly I might add).

I agree. The theater should be downtown where there is the infrastructure. Downtown has the roads, the restaurants and the transit options.

Sandy's survey didn't say the theater would be best in Sandy. Previous surveys stated Downtonw was the place to be. Sandy's survey concurred that it should be in the valley. The County survey will also state that it should be downtown due to the facilities already in place.

I would feel bad for Sandy if Sandy had a heart. Fortunately, they don't, so I can push for the theater being built in downtown SLC.

It would be nice if SL would create a performing arts complex similar to what Denver has downtown. Besides having 5 different theaters together there is a multi-story parking garage and light rail access on-site which makes it very convenient for theater goers.

Salt Lake City has long been one of the great cultural cities of America. Infact, in many ways such has in the performing arts, Salt Lake has a much longer, more sophisticated and far more highly rated ballet, symphony, vocal choruses, dance companies and superior performance halls than many cities or metros many times its size, particularly in the Western U.S.

It is past time that Salt Lake should have a theatre of the appropriate size to accomodate the larger Broadway productions. Ticket sales for these types of musicals, etc. demand that they be in a larger venue, and are able to stay in town for a longer duration.

If indeed there is only need for one venue of this specific type in the market at this time, then it most definately should go to Salt Lake's downtown. For any other area of the metro,(Sandy) to 'steal the show' at this juncture is the height of bombastic arrogance.

If they build it in Sandy, I guarantee it will fail. Gosh, let them build it and weep.
