As a fan of both, I have to say both of these projects scare me. Why retread the Clone Wars cartoon, which was so cool as a traditional animation, with a computer animated thing. We've been there, and done that before. I'd be more excited if they'd move their animation past the prequels and do something new. Like maybe the long awaited followup to Return of the Jedi.

As for the Trek movie. Young Kirk. Any Kirk that's not William Shatner is a bad idea. He owns that character. This new "year one" Trek project may have one of the trendiest directors on the planet, but that's all it has. The fact that they had to move the production back several months for re-write proves this was an ill-conceived project.

Trek needs to be allowed to die. Star Wars also needs to die.

Let these cash cows go to pasture for once!

Actually, Mr Authority, when the Trek release date shift was announced a few weeks ago, they were very clear that the movie was not going to go over schedule even with the writers strike. Abrams promised that the movie would still be ready for the original date and there were few if any rewrites that they were working on. The studio, however, felt, after seeing the dailys and the film as-produced, felt that an early summer release would be a much better choice, considering this movie to be a big enough blockbuster to warrant the shift. They expect a much much higher payoff by a later release.

On another note, I agree that Star Wars should move away from the Clone Wars era. I think the animations were well done and covered that era well enough. Move on to the events after Episode VI.

Trek is in need of time off. A decade or so. The bile-like taste of Nemesis still resides in fans mouths.

Rebooting the original cast with people who are not the original cast by a director that is a trendy flavor of the month sounds like a disaster. This is Kirk, McCoy and Spock we're talking about. Not James Bond. Imagine Indiana Jones played by Ben Afflick. Not pretty. Same here. Shatner's overacting is a signature of Kirk. Replacing him is a bad move. Going back to early days is a bad move.

This new Trek movie has me nervous. Maybe Paramont wants it to be a tent pole for the summer, doesn't mean that it's going to be any good.

I want to know about this "rivalry" they keep talking about. What rivalry? <grin>

Any true sci-fi fan is probably a fan of both. Besides which, there is a lot more to science fiction than just Trek/Wars (or Wars/Trek).
