I was in France last year - the ones I met loved Americans. They were aware there had been some damage between our cultures and, with us, did all they could to make amends. I found them to be genuine, nice people. I love the French.

Our histories are intertwined in many ways. We have literraly saved each other at key times in history. We should work toward better relations.

Regarding Iraq, perhaps France can look past their diapproval of the reasons for our getting into Iraq and work, in Europe, to help the healing that needs to take place in the "Arab world".

I served my mission in France nearly 20 years ago. They were very private, and sometimes it took a bit to get to know them, but once we did they would do anything for us. Many of them were so kind and giving.

And I'll admit to a bit of culture shock once I got back to the states and went to BYU within a month. I remember going home to my roomates and saying "Why is everyone smiling at me? I don't even know these people!"

Anyone who still considers themselves to be "150 percent French" after living here for a decade should seriously consider returning to France. They're obviously having difficulty assimilating into our American culture....or maybe they're just too "private" (arrogant?) to try.

I studied there, and while I found some good friend one on one, I hated the condescending attitude of the people in general. They have little man syndrome, but the whole country is affected. I hope Sarkozy can turn them around...

I think most will agree that arrogant, not private, better describes the typical French person. No one who travels or studies in France comes back gushing about their friendliness towards Americans.

Moi, je connais les francais tres bien.. I have spent a lot of time with the French.. you might say I have a "love/hate" relationship.. I love the French for who they are.. their rich culture, language, I admire them for many things.. However, they drive me crazy sometimes for who they think they are.. I remember once I was having a discussion with a Frenchman about politics.. he kept refering to the 3 world superpowers.. I asked him what he ment (knowing the whole time) He said "you know.. the United states, Russia, and France... I still laugh about that one...

French bashing again! Have those of you who claim they know the French very well (if you write it in French, at least use the proper word order to be credible) tried other countries in Europe (Spain, Italy, Germany, etc.)or on any continent (let's say South America, Africa, the Middle-East). Did you come back gushing about their friendliness towards Americans? I could tell you dozens of stories about their "passion" for Americans.
Maybe the problem does not lie with the French ....!

"Arrogant: exhagerating it's own importance in an excessive manner"
"Condescending: to assume an air of superiority"

Condenscending people never fully appreciate other's culture and potential. Condescending people always tend to find others arrogant.

French people should be proud of their heritage.
I studied there, In worked there I had a wonderful time and met wonderful people. They know how to differentiate people (human) and government (policies). They are well educated and have a great sense of community. I would return there I had the oportunity.

My sister married a Frenchmen so we have visited your beautiful country very often. We have come to feel it is our second home We have become connoisseurs of cheese. and miss it tremendously . We have spent many spent weeks in Provence discovering the many beauties. We actually have spent much more of our time staying with family in Auvernge discovering Puy Marie, Puy du Dome We have enjoyed so much going to the small towns and meeting the citizens.
My Sister is buried in Mauriac. Unfortunately for most American visitors they go to France and see Paris and Nice and say they have been to France. We have so enjoyed getting to know a few citizens of France as they have visited us.

I love the French people! I love the idea of an organized French community in Utah. We would do well to get to know them and take advantage of the opportunities this lends us to get to know the international community right here in our backyard. I've been to France every year for the last three years and I'm spending this upcoming summer there as well. I always come away from my time in France with a greater appreciation for their culture and my own. It's healthy to see other ways of living and other points of view. Je souhaite la bienvenue à tous mes amis francais içi à l'Utah. C'est un grand plaisir de vous acueillir.
