We were cheated. I agree with Greg Wruebel. the officials blew a call with 4 minutes left that cost us the game. Let's hope Plaisted and Cummard stick around another year and don't take their considerable skills to the NBA this summer.

I am a die hard Cougar Fan. but again this is another season ending in dismay and disappointment! i guess UNLV is really the better team! What an embarrassment the first par t of the game was. We lost it then! Thank heaven Plaistead, Cummard, and Tavernari finally decided to show up! At least it was close for most fo the secon half! Where is the heart... there was none. They acted like they didnt even care! I though Dave Roase was suppose to have his team ready! Didnt look like it to me! Remeber Cougars, if you are going to talk the talk.... you better be ready to walk the walk form the minute you step on the court! Well, next year is next year! All the good that your home court winning streak was to have done, just shows you don't have what it takes on the road! Maybe we should just settle for the NIT, maybe we could win a game in that tournament! Still a die hard Cougar Fan! There is next year and the big three will be seniors! Hope lives on!
Re: Cougar | 8:26 p.m. March 20, 2008
The refs decided the game? Come on. I thought they did well and were mostly invisible. BYU just couldnt get it done. Just not enough firepower, athleticism, heart, which makes for another one and done.

I think we are a joke. No official lost this game. Our inability to play the game was the reason we lost!
NYU | 8:27 p.m. March 20, 2008
There is always hope in CougarTown. Go NYU(Next Year U)!

One "Round of 16" appearance in last 50 years----must have been cheated.
ha | 8:28 p.m. March 20, 2008
complaints you cougs make laugh so hard
Cougar Larry | 8:28 p.m. March 20, 2008
Lets face it. We aren't that good. We lost the game not the officials.
Anonymous | 8:30 p.m. March 20, 2008
Was Murdock hurt? What was up with Jimmer playing all the minutes? Granted he is great but start him all year not in the NCAA.... sheesh I'm frustrated again....
Done in One | 8:31 p.m. March 20, 2008
BYU has established a great tradition. Done in One.
Over and out. Roger Wilco. 10-4 Some things never change.
Confused | 8:31 p.m. March 20, 2008
what?
Good game | 8:33 p.m. March 20, 2008
At least I got this one right in my bracket. Too bad USC ruined my perfect day and Duke about gave me a heart attack. They didn't get embarrassed and it was a good game to watch. better luck next year Cougs and hopefully a better seed.
qel | 8:40 p.m. March 20, 2008
The other MWC teams took care of business.

I sure don't envy being a college basketball coach when, in the post season, it's so difficult to get the team members to remember how well they can play instead of where they are playing.
tbone | 8:40 p.m. March 20, 2008
this is how you win next year.
get an athletic guard who can stop some penatration
and take tavernari out whenever the game get close
MWC is weak | 8:42 p.m. March 20, 2008
BYU will always be the big fish in a weak conf. that is it!!
One and out | 8:45 p.m. March 20, 2008
Rise and shout...the Cougars are OUT! I guess I will have to wait until I become a great-grandfather for the Y to win another NCAA B-ball tourney game.
Utes | 8:46 p.m. March 20, 2008
Can anyone tell me the two teams still playing this year from the mountain west? Hummm
qel | 8:46 p.m. March 20, 2008
you mean the other TEAM, if you are talking NCAA or NIT, cause UNM and SDSU lost last night in the NIT. And what was the call that cost the game? 4 minutes left? come on, please. Too bad they don't let the men play first round games at home.
UNLV | 8:46 p.m. March 20, 2008
I guess it wasn't home court, it was just bonehead plays like shooting the ball from half court with 1 min to go.
At least we have UNLV to thank for a little respect.
U of U | 8:47 p.m. March 20, 2008
The U of U team got to watch the game the same place I did. At home!! HaHaHaHaHa
Utes | 8:49 p.m. March 20, 2008
Actually Utah is in Tulsa, STILL PLAYING!
U of U | 8:55 p.m. March 20, 2008
Playing what? The NCAA? no. The NIT no. What then???
Utah Ute | 8:58 p.m. March 20, 2008
I am a basketball fanatic. I will enjoy watching Utah continue to play ball this year. Maybe, next year, the cougs can play past the first round.
Defense Anyone? | 9:00 p.m. March 20, 2008
Can someone say defense?

A&M had nothing to worry about, miss a shot, no worries, they will get the rebound.

BYU miss a shot, no worries, A&M will get the rebound.

I'm 42 years old, I could drive on that defense.

My nine year old daughter could drive on that defense. Nuff said!
Not Surprised | 9:03 p.m. March 20, 2008
BYU 7-17 in first round games and the fans complaining about the officials....some things never change! And as bad as they are the only MWC teams from the state still playing have UTAH across the front of the jersey......BYU can't win Bowl games in football, can't win in the NCAA in hoops....guess tomorrow we can complain some more about the lousy seed! Just win sometime when it really counts will you BYU???
Az Ute | 9:05 p.m. March 20, 2008
GOod try Cougs. Quit complaining about your seed until you can win a 1st. Round game. Thank heaven for UNLV who carries the Conference banner like the Utes from a few years ago.
U of U | 9:07 p.m. March 20, 2008
What postseason? Are the Utes still playing? In what tounament?
Utes | 9:07 p.m. March 20, 2008
Oh, and did you notice it was on the road.
Longsuffering | 9:08 p.m. March 20, 2008
I am beginning to lose hope that the Y will ever make it out of the first round in my lifetime. Embarrasing that the MWC champ can't beat a middle of the pack team from a "major" conference. Better luck next year, and the next year, and the next...
Coogs Lose...again! | 9:08 p.m. March 20, 2008
So much for all that cougar trash-talking toward the Utes all week. "One-and-done"? Looks like the Ute and cougar post-season "traditions" continue...
Runn'n Rebels | 9:14 p.m. March 20, 2008
Make that 33-16 in the Tourney. Too bad the Y couldn't show some heart.
Cosmo | 9:14 p.m. March 20, 2008
BYU OAD I cant believe the NCAA has such a vendetta against us. They still remember 1984 and will never let us win again. At least we have a national championship unlike our neighbors to the north. Final four but never a real winner. Wine all you want, we have the trophy
Aggie here | 9:15 p.m. March 20, 2008
I am no Cougar fan but for Utes to talk trash about the Cougars? They swept you, they played in the NCAA, were actually on national TV. If it wasnt for some charity tournament that was invented for some very average teams, the Utes would have watched that game at home.
Excited for next year, watch the Cougs and Ags go at it at ESA. Should be a fun game, probably a little more fun than the little football matchup we'll have in Logan.
It was a tough fight today and losing by a slim margin is never fun. The Ags know that from the night before.
Good luck next year and we'll see you in SLC at Energy Solutions. That day, we wont be friends. Today, just laugh about the Utes who are 'still' playing average basketball.
Are you really | 9:15 p.m. March 20, 2008
bragging about getting past the first round in the CBI? WOW!!! it is sad to be a Ute
die hard | 9:24 p.m. March 20, 2008
i am a die hard cougar fan. always have, always will. the refs blew a call, but even if the call went our way it wouldnt have changed the game. until next year..
Rise and Shout | 9:27 p.m. March 20, 2008
...the cougars are out... Now I understand these words in the fight song. Truer words have never been spoken. At least we have next year, wait I said that last year. At least we have football.
Utes | 9:27 p.m. March 20, 2008
agreed, the Utes shouldn't be bragging about playing in the CBI, but BYU can't be happy about losing to an average Texas A&M team...

both teams have had dissappointing seasons...
A positive... | 9:36 p.m. March 20, 2008
I hate that BYU lost, but hey, it's good for your bracket when you can consistently predict their performance...
really | 9:44 p.m. March 20, 2008
not bragging about a utes win, just poking fun at another BYU loss.
Confused, What! | 9:45 p.m. March 20, 2008
What are you confused about? THEY LOST! Need more clarification? THEY LOST IN THE FIRST ROUND, AGAIN!!!!!!! Are you still confused?

By the way, who ever is mentioning the Utes, WHO CARES. Do you blame the Utes for your loss? Bragging about the CBI, what a joke, let me repeat, WHO CARES.

Bottom line, the Y lost tonight in the big dance that they can't handle.
to Aggie | 10:02 p.m. March 20, 2008
umm, part of being a fan in a rivalry like this is rooting for whoever plays your rival, and letting them know who wins.
tony | 10:03 p.m. March 20, 2008
I'm a loyal BYU fan but have resigned myself to the fact that our conference and our teams just aren't quite as good as the ones in the big conferences. Their teams are just more athletic and a lot deeper than teams from the MWC. We can play with the big boys on a given night but not very consistently. Oh well, maybe someday we will get better. I'm just glad BYU made it respectable.
Frustrated!! | 10:08 p.m. March 20, 2008
Come on Cougs!!!? I am as die hard as they come, but reality is reality. I am sick and tired of our post-season mediocrity. Where is our big-game toughness..? I can't make one argument for the Cougs. I am exasperated with them. We truly just cannot compete at that level.

We cannot make even one excuse, officials or not. As a former athlete, you just have to dig down and find some heart and make a play. It was a winnable game...

And for all us Cougar fans, this is a big dose of reality. There should be no popping of to some over-zealous Ute fan; we have had no where near the post-season success in the NCAA's that they have had.

We truly have no room to speak, so just zip it! Some of our fans that comment on this blog make us look like such idiots...
To To Aggie | 10:11 p.m. March 20, 2008
Thats why I still cheered for the Aggies today. Just making a compliment as to how BYU kept it close against a team with better athletes, bigger guys and just a better game plan. Like I said, I am no Cougar fan but it was a fun game to watch because it was so close.
joey | 10:11 p.m. March 20, 2008
Tavernari's 30 footer with a minute left gave A&M the big easy! If it had been 5-7 feet closer I would be ok. The game finished just like UNLV. We need to go to the basket in the final minutes and play to win..... not launch despiration shots.
To Aggie | 10:13 p.m. March 20, 2008
At least you can simpathize with the Cougars. Yesterday you lost what, your eight post season game in a row. Haven't won in the NIT since 1960. Yes the Utah team is average, even well below that for a Utah team, but that aveage team beat your Aggies by 26 points. You shouldn't be excited about playing anyone next year loosing J.C. Average will be looking good.

Sorry about the loss cougs, I was actually pulling for you.
Just thinking... | 10:19 p.m. March 20, 2008
I don't know what is worse... realizing that the Cougs may never figure out how to win a tourney game or being a Ute who has been dominated by those same weak Cougs.

Does the joy come in your team winning or the other team losing? Guess when your team is struggling to beat the other one, you only have one choice. Isn't it great to have sports for these deep philosophical questions?
Overrated | 10:19 p.m. March 20, 2008
I thought BYU was going to beat A&M handily and then give UCLA a great game...guess not. If it weren't for the refs they probably would have...because they are the greatest team...ever.
NevadaCoug | 10:20 p.m. March 20, 2008
It all comes down to fundamentals. I find it absolutely astounding that Plaistead made it into the starting line up of any D-1 team when he doesn't know how to square his shoulders to the basket when he shoots. Also, when you have a wide open lane to the basket, why not take a few steps forward before you shoot instead of settling for the longer, lower percentage shot? Simple things that I learned by the time I was a freshman in high school. Yet these Cougars can't or won't do those simple things. They lived and died by the three all year. Until they start trying to have some sort of inside game, they'll never have tournament success. Ask UNLV about living and dying by the three; that's why they lost to Oregon last year.

Kudos to Texas A&M. They pressured the Cougars into forcing shots, and the Cougars fell for it.
At least | 10:27 p.m. March 20, 2008
the Aggies got it together and pulled off another good regular season and won the regular season. We started off bad but Stew will always find a team that will be competitive and at the top of the WAC. Thats why I am excited. Believe it or not, I am even excited for Aggie Football, but that might be because I like the outdoors. :)
