The Communists were not worried about secret messages getting to the "outside world" through egg dying. They were intent on destroying all the elements of culture of the people over whom they had dominion in order to divest the people from the Baltics to the Balkans of their national identities. The destruction of culture is necessary for totalitarian regimes.
