Why is David Archuleta so set on self-destructing? Why the anti-war song last night? When he did an anti-poverty song before it went over very poorly. Isn't he paying attention? Doesn't he care? Wait until he's famous to promote his or whoever's favorite causes. Right now focus on winning. He's the best thing on the show but he's not helping himself any. Strange everyone can see that, mention that, and he doesn't learn. Come on, David, help us out by winning the whole thing!

TMZ, which I hate to admit I have watched is catered to a lower mentality. They thrive on low life, scum bucket tactics, but I did watch when there was a lot going on with Britney. They are fools to think that they are breaking this deep secret about the recaps, that isn't anything new, I know that they do that with So You Think You Can Dance. I take care of my mother-in-law, she is a very sweet woman, I get burned out and sometimes get a little grouchy at her, OK, twice in the last six months I have gotten quite aggitated with her. NEWSFLASH!!! Parents will sometimes yell at their kids, and it will not always be logical. I think that TMZ is way out of line to continue this story about Jeff Archuleta, thank heavens for a father that would take the time to be there all the time. Sure he wants his kid to do well, but also, he loves him and he cares, so you won't see me throwing any stones.

I haven't been watching American Idle this year. Is it any good?

@Shamrock: This has been a great year for American Idle. If you were as idle as the rest of us, you would know, I guess.
Regarding the "deception" of recaps, we noticed that a long time ago. Doesn't really bother us. And I've never even heard of TMZ....sounds like that's something to be happy about.

Yes, Shamrock, it is good this year, if you know that the judges are "leading" the viewers on who to vote for, half of it is prerecorded, the stuff between Ryan and Simon is staged, etc., etc. Oh, and the Biggest Loser scale isn't real either. After 8 years of watching reality shows I've discovered they're really not "reality" at all, but I'll keep watching A.I. GO DAVID COOK! He's great!

I love David Archuleta to distraction, but he is definitely shooting himself in the foot with his song choices. He needs to decide if he wants to win the competition or just come on and sing for a while.
If David wants to win, he needs to sing songs that appeal to the viewers and not so much to himself. He can sing in the shower any song he likes. On American Idol, he needs to sing songs that the vast majority of listeners recognize and like.
If he does that, he wins hands down! NO ONE on the show can REMOTELY sing as well as he can. But, they are being wiser in how they present themselves, in their song choices, and it's paying off.
I agree with Val Evenson, now is not the time or place to do social comment songs. Save it for after you win and are asked to take part in Live Aid/Farm Aid. Make lots of money and donate a ton to charity. Slip a thoughtful song or two onto a great album.
Singing do-gooder songs over and over will turn off the largely jaded public. You have to be SMART about this, David!!

David Archuleta is definitely a cute kid who can sing. But to say that no one else on the show can remotely sing as well as he is ridiculous.
I think everyone is happy when he gets saved and gives that sweet smile. But just can't see him as an American Idol.
I would love to see David Cook win. He has a great voice and the whole package (minus the haircut).
But being the most talented does not guarantee a winner - look at Taylor Hicks.

Dee, I agree that David Cook is good. He's my second favorite, has won me over as time's passed. I think he has a real future ahead of him in the music industry.
However, before you dispute me over David's superlative vocals, do me a favor. Go to YouTube and listen to David Archuleta sing the two Christmas songs. If you don't agree that he has pipes far superior to anyone in the competition after that I would be very surprised. We'd just have to agree to disagree, but I doubt it would be necessary.
I truly don't believe anyone in the competition could produce anything that soaring and beautiful. He's 16 there, and 14-15 in the YouTube school/church stuff when he sings "Angels" and "I'll Be". They’re fabulous, too--especially when you realize he's not far into his teens.
I think David will learn stage production and showmanship over time. Personally, I prefer it when he just stands there and sings my socks off. But, I know when he does concerts he'll have to step things up in that regard. He admires Michael Jackson's performing, so who knows what we'll get.
Thanks for checking out David Archuleta on YouTube. Enjoy!

Archuleta: Pleasant voice, seldom off pitch. Unique raspiness that is not distracting. Will probably win with his appeal to the 12 to 18 year olds that dominate voting.
Brooke: Special talent. Unique voice. Needs self-confident stage presence. Could have long career, but probably will opt for what Amanda wants -- happiness through raising a strong family.
Tyesha: Improving. Won't sell millions of albums but might make tons in acting.
Castro: Nice tones. Lacks confidence, vocal strength.
David Cook: Unique. Might do well vocally but personality grates.
Kristy: Model cute. Voice lacks training. Could be good at the end of the tour.
Michael: Great talent, dull personality.
Carly: Beautiful tones, great range, well-modulated, strong. Looks old. Won't appeal to the teeny boppers, but could be a star.
Ramielle: Beautiful voice but lacks training to power through upper range with resonance. Lacks self-confidence. Sometimes she nails it. Probably won't last three weeks, but I would love to see her make a career after getting better. I would sign her in a minute because she would sell like crazy in Asia.
Whose albums would I buy? With good songs, most of them. Most likely: Brooke, Carly, Ramiele. Maybe David Archuleta.

Brooke White CAN'T win, even though she COULD win. Her lack of confidence not only undermines her performance, how can WE believe in her if SHE doesn't believe in her. Seriously Brooke, have some faith, have some fun, do your thing, and see what happens. Don't doubt yourself into failure. Yeah, I know Carly Simon and Barbara have stage fright, but they don't show it on stage.
David Archuletta MIGHT win -- if he can be a little more consistent. Some weeks, blows you away, other weeks pulls out some obscure song that doesn't really do his talents justice. Something familiar with a twist, David, like "Imagine."
David Cook SHOULD win. He may or may not have the best voice, but dude has a musical sense about him, and serious performance skills. If only he didn't have that gosh-awful haircut. Like a kid wearing the old man's 20 year old tie, dude is sporting a watered down Flock of Seagulls 'do. Get a new coif before the finale, David. It'll be a dramatic moment, and will allow straight men to vote for you.
