I reported a case of inappropriate touching by a chiropractor and was accused of being a woman scorned. More women would step up and report these incidents if they taken seriously. Also, always insist on accompanying your children into any doctors' exam rooms.

Time the world recognized Chiropractors for the frauds they are. To call a Chiropractor a "doctor" is akin to calling a sand speck on the beach "a mountain".

I agree, TruthAgent. It is insulting to those men and women who actually EARN their degrees through the rigors of medical school, residencies and fellowships, and research. Yes, chiropractors will try to present the same argument, but THEY ARE NOT THE SAME. They must be stopped from presenting themselves as medical doctors, giving a dangerous number of X-rays, and especially treating children. That in and of itself is tantamount to child abuse.

Not a doctor | 7:02 p.m. March 25, 2008
Doctor is a nebulous term. The degree of PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) can be earned in many courses of study that have absolutly nothing to do with medical study, but yet that person can be called "Doctor" and put Dr. in place of Mr., or Mrs., or Ms.

Is a chiropractor a "doctor"? The academic community seems to think so. I don't. I think a chiropractor is a LMT that went through many many hours of A&P in a four year university program. But I have the same problem with optometrist. Not to mention honorary doctors.

I have gone to chiropracters for years and they have been wonderful, helpful, and a welcome relief for my back pain. The fact that this man was a chiropracter is not the point. I have seen many articles about sex abuse that doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel have committed. That does not stop me from seeing a doctor when I need to or condemning all doctors for the mistakes of "some" doctors. The main fact is that he was a man that committed a crime and needs to receive the appropriate penalty and counseling for that crime as it appears he is receiving. Condemning all chiropracters for this man's offenses is not the answer.

You know nothing about this issue and I believe the good man is innocent

I see again all of the experts about Chiropractic medicine. The facts: any person wanting to be a chiropractor MUST have 4 years of pre-med and other courses DOCTORS take, then apply to an accredited school for 18 to 30 months of education, JUST LIKE MEDICAL SCHOOL. Then they must pass a state board, LIKE A MEDICAL DOCTOR, have continuing education, and maintain professional status. They are subject to state inspections and board exams. To say that only a chiropractor sees children privately is in error. All children should be escorted by their parent(s) when visiting ANY doctor. Many people, with good intentions, use this to make statements which are incorrect or misleading. Please, before you say a chiropractor only does this or that, make sure you have your facts straight. You have better credibility. 4 of my 9 children have medical degrees, and yes, each is called DOCTOR. Have a great day.

Some people will do anything to get "Dr." in front of their names. Another example of someone supposedly in "authority" taking advanage of their position and molesting others. If this is true, slap the book at him, not his hands.

I refer patients to chiropractors periodically so I have no bias against that. Just wanted to clarify re: Dad of a DC. 4 yrs of pre-med (college)..same. Medical school: 4 YEARS (not 18 to 30 MONTHS). 3-10 yrs of residency IN ADDITION to the med school. Our education is broader and much longer as we deal w/ more organ systems but I do refer when there appears to be a mal-adjustment of the skeletal system as I have found they can be very helpful there.

Chiropractic schools have the lowest GPAs for students entering (and the lowest required); no standard entrance exam; and the fewest percent of them entering with a four-year degree, compared to schools of medicine, dentistry, podiatry, optometry or osteopathy.

There are good chiropractors, and bad ones. I have been to both, including being abused by one. He refused to let my father accompany us to the exam room - dead give away there.
ABC is right. This isn't really about MD or DR - it is about persons of trust violating such.

I am a Chiropractor. A am a Mormon. Yes, most of each group are good, a VERY FEW are bad, and a very, very few make terribe decisions and mistakes. Don't judge a whole group by the criminal mistakes of one.
Chiropractic post-graduate eduaction is a four year program, similar to MDs but not the same because we are not MDs. Just as an orthopedist would be a fool to try dentistry, and a dermatologist would make a poor cardiologist, chiropractors are spine and nerve specialists and we do not try to be Medical doctors. But we are very good at what we do.
I regret the actions of this man and he will be punished, but please, don't judge us all for one bad man. Seems like a wise man once counseled us to not judge falsely.
Back on track | 9:51 p.m. March 25, 2008
The issue is not about Chiropractic or the Medical profession. It is that Grant Hildreth has committed a crime. He has betrayed the trust that was freely given to him by his patients. He then used their innocence and ignorance to his advantage. He used his profession to justify and nimbly cover his covert deviant actions and to secretly satisfy his sexual needs. He knew that only another doctor in the room could discern the legitimacy of his claimed therapeutic proceedures. He completely lacks any sense of responsibility. He's theatrical and throughout trial used his religious comments to influence the jury. I feel sad for the patients he took advantage of, for his wife who chooses to live in denial, his children who he must fool, his profession that he betrayed and for undoubtedly, the others who did not come forward. He has a sorid past, evidently it runs it family. GOOGLE him and his brother. He is very similar to a child molester in many ways. Im sure he tested the assertivness of many others. I can speak with some authority as I was there at his trial as an observer. Im also a Medical Doctor.
Agree with Back on Track | 10:24 p.m. March 25, 2008
What's with the Chiropractor bashing. "Dr" Hildreth didn't perpetrate this because he is a Chiropractor; he did it because he is an unscrupulous slug.
We don't bash all teachers when one has sex with a student. We don't bash all Presidents because one perpetually cheats on his wife.
Agree with agree-er | 11:24 p.m. March 25, 2008
Pride, it represents the defense of "self", several egos having to defend their pro or anti positions on chiropractors, are they or aren't they. Like children following the tune of the pied piper.

Who knows what really happened? It's he said-she said. Who would want to be a doctor, a teacher, a scout master these days? One unhappy camper says, "I was touched." And out come the prosecuters, and persecuters. For such a sex obsessed society to pretend it is shooked is humorous. Maybe Dr's need to take Nude modeling classes at UVU to improve their bedside manner.
The Edge | 8:05 a.m. March 26, 2008
The fact that a chiropractor is considered a Dr. is not the real issue here. As Denise said, the issue is that he may have used a position of trust and authority for his own pleasure (sexual abuse). This is wrong whether he is a Dr. or not. As far as teh educational aspect are concerned, a chiropractor is a trained healer, as are others who practice medicine. On MD's comments regarding his "broader" education, he may want to revise his disastrous run-on sentence to prove his point.
Wake Up | 12:04 p.m. March 26, 2008
To all of us professionals, if the shoe fits wear it. There are bad lawyers but not all lawyers are bad. Same with doctors, chiropractors, bankers, coaches and so on. This guy was a really bad person. Don't condem all chiropractors because of 1 bad person.
Not Guilty | 12:45 p.m. March 26, 2008
"The former secretary testified that several times after work she allowed Hildreth to apply medication on her, but on two occasions the application began to become sexual, she testified during the trial".

If this happened once and she objected, why did she allow it to happen again? I would have voted not guilty.
let me tell you, people | 1:09 p.m. March 26, 2008
any time one of these quacks puts his hands on you it is "inappropriate touching". trust me, go see a real doctor

what a creep
imbecile | 3:58 p.m. March 26, 2008
So the conversation between employer and employee went like this?: "Hey, if you ever have a vaginal infection, feel free to ask me to apply the cream. After all, we freely talk about your vagina. And it's not like you have two fingers to apply the cream yourself. I'm sure your husband wouldn't mind, because you apparently don't have any problem with asking me to do such an inappropriate thing."

I can't tell who is the biggest imbecile here; the woman, her employer chiropractor, or her husband.

Maybe the jury.
re: imbecile | 4:35 p.m. March 26, 2008
Though I have to admit, what you say has some truth to it, how do you know she didn't fight it once it turned inappropriate??? I believe the article mentioned use of FORCE. It's not hard to pin a women to the table who is already in a position of trust. Nor would it be difficult to intimidate... did you look at the dude? If I were in that position, as a mother of three children under 4, I would do just about anything to continue taking care of my sweet children... THINK about it. We don't know all the details. HOPEFULLY the jury knew enough to make the right decision.

To all of you who are bad mouthing Chiorpractors I just want to say that they have helped me tremendously. I doubt my quality of life would be anywhere near are good without the relief from pain I have recieved from regular treatments. I have run into a few who it seemed like their main motiavatin was making money. I have been to enough to know which one works for me and which one do not. I am gratefull for the care of several great chriopractors in my life. I have seen people lifes change for the better because of the help they recieved. So I do not know where you are coming from but from where I have been they are wonderfull and worth every penny I have paid them over the years. Thanks to them I enjoy just about every physical activity I want to. After several car wrecks and some severe physical trama I am gratefull for the help I have recived from them.
Problems | 4:50 p.m. March 26, 2008
Your you kidding me no one these days believes a Chropractor is a real doctor, She set him up on this one.

After she was found stealing from the business and knew her job was going to be terminated, and how that would effect the custody battle she was in with her ex-husband who she also has excused of sex abuse. I guess pratice makes perfect.

Now the guy will go to jail for applying cream. And she can damage the family going after what little money they have left after laywers take it all. Watch she is going for the money
Mary | 4:58 p.m. March 26, 2008
I have went to chiropractors since I was a teenager and I know that they aren't like that.
I really think that the people testifying and accusing him of such a thing are very crazy or wants attention. There are alot people in the world that are looking for attention. I think this case is like that.
I feel sorry the the Doctor and his family if he has one.
It is a sad world now days. I hope the jury new the right facts but if they didn't how can they live with themselves.
Married to a doctor | 6:54 p.m. March 26, 2008
There are some "Medical Doctors" out there who are Quacks as well. These guys kill people with all their destructive drugs! How many side affects can a person have with one pill? that can eventually lead to a persons death? Do these doctors take time while running people through assembly lines for money ever wonder if the drugs really work? Everybody's body is just a bit different than that of someone else's and can react differently to drug medications!

However, doctors in all fields of medicine can be sex abusers. Even gynecologists!
SO SAD | 10:10 p.m. March 26, 2008
Its so sad that his wive has to live in the state of denial in order to cope with the fact that her husband is a sexual predator. She must feel so trapped to have stood behind him in the face of so many abused women. The humiliation must be overwhelming.
Kyle from AZ | 10:25 p.m. March 26, 2008
If chiropractors (or quackapractors as I call them) would get all the bogus holistic BS out of their practices and focus on real evidence based medicine they would gain a whole lot of respect both from the the public and medical community. However chiropractics has been so infultrated with bogus holistic fringe medicine that people view them as quacks.
re Kyle | 10:49 p.m. March 26, 2008
Ive gone to Chiropractor for years. I love their work. They have helped me more than any M D has ever done. I also love the holistic aspects of their practices. I say, to each his own. It should always be a persons free choice in this world to whom they wish to put their trust and faith into, and not the Medical field of doctors. Why should M D's be the only ones out there to make money off of people? Plus, people like me have benefited from these doctors.
