Eat in the Hot Sun? | 12:40 a.m. March 27, 2008
So what. Soccer is boring and I'd rather eat in an air conditioned restaurant.

Actually, the stadium has a slight roof and will keep the sun at of most ppl's eyes.

I just hope the hotdogs are as good as Dodger Dogs

When this team has players that actually play for it first, then I will consider it a big deal. For now it's just another minor league team like the Bee's or the Flash. You have to put the Blaze as a bigger deal than this.

dan, you need to get educated about sports heirarchy in America.
The bees are AAA. In other words, players who aren't good enough to play in the majors are in the Bees' league.
The flash are NBDL. In other words, players who aren't good enough to play in the NBA are in the Flash's league.
The Blazzzze are AFL. In other words, players who aren't good enough to play in the NFL or CFL are in the Blazzzzze's league.
MLS is the highest level of soccer in America. To say it's minor league shows your ignorance of the sport.

so? | 10:03 a.m. March 27, 2008
If I want overpriced restaurant food, I'll go to a restaurant. If I want to watch winning soccer ... I'll have to move somewhere else.
Good food | 10:15 a.m. March 27, 2008
I hope the stadium has good food. That will make suffering through a soccer game a lot more bearable.
Re: Education | 10:48 a.m. March 27, 2008
The difference is that the world's best players don't play in the MLS like they do in the NFL, NBA, and Major Leagues. The AAA comparison is actually very accurate and you are the one who is ignorant. MLS players are the player who aren't good enough to play in Europe.
Delta Center ... hint hint | 10:53 a.m. March 27, 2008
Delta Center should get a clue. Having attended a Cubs game at Wrigley field and a Red Sox game at Fenway Park, I must say that the Delta Center concessions are seriously lacking. Utah stadium concessions in general are pathetic.
MLS Players.... | 11:21 a.m. March 27, 2008
Not good enough for Europe?...an interesting take. Don't tell that to Ian Joy, Kenny Deuchar, Jozy Altidore, David Beckham, and even Freddy Adu for that matter.
Saying "Europe" like a blanket statement is very ignorant. Maybe the MLS is not the caliber of say the EPL, or La Liga, but it sure is getting better each year.

Agreed

Some beer might help. : )
David Beckham | 12:00 p.m. March 27, 2008
That would be like Barry Bonds playing for the Bees after his career is over and your Freddy Adu example is perfect. He used Real Salt Lake as a step up to the majors so you just proved my point. Real Salt Lake will be gone within five years.
RE:MLS players... | 12:26 p.m. March 27, 2008
Who are those guys?
Becks | 1:22 p.m. March 27, 2008
I wouldn't say his career is over when he's still getting caps for England. True MLS is not on that level, but you are taking an international perspective to prove your point about a national sports league...And you're right, RSL will be gone from Rice-Eccles in 5 years and playing in Sandy.
Ummm.... | 1:26 p.m. March 27, 2008
They play for Real Salt Lake. Jozy (Red Bulls)will cross the pond before the end of the year. Why? Because the level of play in MLS is desired buy Huge Teams in Europe. Thats the point.
David Beckham career over? Is that why he represented his country yesterday earning his 100th cap? Something like being one of the best footballers for your national team just screams "career over".
Thanks for playing.

Gone in 5 | 1:40 p.m. March 27, 2008
Yes, I'm sure RSL will be gone in 5 years.
Ironically there were people saying the same thing 5 years ago (way back when the team was announced). Those people are conspicuously absent today.
The question is, when RSL is still here in 5 years, will YOU come back here to eat crow?

Re:Ummm... | 1:56 p.m. March 27, 2008
No, the point is that if your scrub league is getting raided by better teams, your all-stars leave on the first plane to Europe, and the return flight lands you with the overpriced has-beens as a PR stunt, then you are a triple A league, period. No amount of fancy concessions, public funded stadiums, or 10 minute PR stunts like Freddy "I thank you for your cash and bid you a rapid" Adu, will ever put enough lipstick on the Blue-Ribbon pig that is MLS soccer.
The Truth | 1:59 p.m. March 27, 2008
Here is the thing. The MLS may be the highest level of soccer here in America, but on the world stage it is minor league calibur, for now. The league is on its way up with these new rules allowing for more internationals and designated players, but it will take a lot of work before its even close to the level that Europe is at.
Patience is a viiritue | 2:13 p.m. March 27, 2008
Even though i wouldn,t consider myself a diehard soccer fan, i still enjoy spending the evening watching good sports at a beautiful facility. It is true that MLS, and RSL, are not currnetly at an elite level, but from what i can tell it is slowly growing at a consistent rate. It seems to me that soccer will never be as big as football is in this country, but i think that soccer is growing and will continue to do so until it becomes a permanent part of our society. It is a great sport and i am glad that our city was able to get a team early on or we would never have gotten a team. Big cities like Philly, Miami and St. Louis are currently tryinig hard to get a team and cannot. Mr. Checkets has done a great job so far and we as a community should be glad to have RSL
funny | 2:14 p.m. March 27, 2008
I didn't see crow anywhere on the new menu. Is it one of the regional dishes?
5 years | 3:22 p.m. March 27, 2008
If RSL and the MLS is still around in 5 years I will eat crow and I will go to a game and I hope the menu is good so I'll have something to do.
Eat Crow | 3:30 p.m. March 27, 2008
I'd rather eat a crow than watch soccer.
Re: Eat Crow | 4:21 p.m. March 27, 2008
Then go eat a crow, stop gettin on these soccer news stories and being all "american" and saying soccer isnt a sport. You dont see soccer fans on football stories, baseball stories, or basketball stories going oh what a boring sport i would rather eat a crow. Grow up and accept the fact that soccer is a sport, its in sandy, and for some people it is very exciting.
Re: Eat Crow | 4:23 p.m. March 27, 2008
But you'd rather waste your life away reading articles about Real and debating things that you have no control over. The team is here to stay. You may not like it. But the thousands that go to the games or watch them are happy to have them here. Quit crying just because you didn't get your way. Is your life really that much worse now that there is a soccer team in Utah? Your taxes aren't any higher, you can still be a fan of only 1 sport if you want, you can still cruise state street looking for chicks, or go cow tipping, or golf-ball hunting if you want. Why are you sooo ticked off that thousands of people now have another sport to cheer for in Utah?
Get In Shape!!! | 5:51 p.m. March 27, 2008
More sitting on the backside, shoveling junk food down, and cheering your team. All sports fans that don't also get out and exercise for their own health and for the sake of their family need to get moving.
Also, you are contributing to the pollution in the valley unless you are going to walk or bicycle to the park.

I just hope the food doesn't cost as much as the ticket to get in the stadium.

Stop complaining and enjoy what we have. It sounds like fun to me to go with friends, watch a game, and knock back a few cold ones.
