I'll be impressed by Dallas Reynolds if he doesn't get dominated like he did -- twice -- against UCLA.

I have followed Tom Sorensen since his transfer from Vanderbilt. The injuries were unfortunate but Tom refused to allow them to stop him. He is not a rookie,he just hasn't played here! I salute you Mr. Sorensen, good luck to all the Cougars. Let us refuse to lose and do our best on every play.

Go Tom!

"The Reynolds brothers seem to carry a chevron patch on their jerseys..."

Usually I have no problem figuring out Harmon's mixed metaphors and other wildly flung figures of speech, but I don't get what he means in this quote. Can anyone help me understand what he's saying here?

Sure Mark...here goes, happy to help. Dick is making reference to non-commissioned officers who are sargents. They are not the captins of the team, but more the blue collared leaders in the trenches. They wear chevrons on their sleeves, not bars on their collars like Hall, Unga and Pita.

Or maybe they are hoping to profit in the NFL like Chevron does now in the Market place...???

Um, Dick......Travis Bright broke his leg in the Vegas Bowl, not the ACL as you stated. Ooops.

Good luck Tom! You will be great!

How can he talk so much about Dallas when he is the reason for so many back side hits that caused fumbles and forced Hall to scramble? Give me a break with all the talk about the Reynolds family. I know them and wouldn't let them take care of my dogs if I was on vacation. But as far as Tom goes...I do not think there is much to worry about. Didn't he receive all freshman honors at Vandy? That is pretty impressive. I know he was injured and is a little out of practice but the kid knows what he is doing and should be able to pick up the offense quickly. And how is it that there will be 10 of 11 returning starters when 2 new starters were named in this article? last time I checked 11-2=9.

Because Bright is hurt for the spring but should be back for the fall (Matt Reynolds is replacing him in spring ball). Sete is the only starter not returning. Make sense?
Starters | 9:16 a.m. March 27, 2008
The only starter that needs to be replaced in fall is the center Sete. Matt Reynolds is starting in spring camp for one of the injured starting lineman who will be back to his starting role in fall. Unfortunate that two of our lineman cannot participate in spring but that makes us even deeper on the line giving players like Matt Reynolds reps. Let's enjoy this season to the fullest cause next season we rebuild a bit losing 4 of 5 starting offensive lineman - another reason this spring is crucial to get those backups some reps.

Chevron is also a road sign meaning you have to go around. Go Cougs.
Las Vegas Katbacker | 11:23 a.m. March 27, 2008
Tom was good enough to start last season, but Sete was as good and was already in place with team experience. The Center position was the most solid 2-deep position on the team with them. This season, BYU will get it's highest preseason rank in it's history. Look out, little brothers of the MWC.

Re: TJ, is this forum about football? Or is it about your personal dislikes of a family?

Go Get Em' Tom!!! You'll be great! I haven't a doubt you will fill in just fine!

I am just worried about a slow start again from the BYU squad which has BCS written all over it, and everybody in Utah knows it! Everybody in the Mountain West Knows It! Everybody in the West Knows IT!!! I just worry they may know it too much, and that is a set up for failure! If they fail, I will be devastated, and so will Cougar Town! I finally found a white helmet for my BYU Helmet stickers this year, painted the face mask, and the stripes, and stuck on the stickers and proudly display it above my TV. Our Master Bath is Cougar Decorated just waiting for a BCS Banner to be hung among the Individual banners and tickets from Mountain West Championships won the past years and Bowl Games and Empty Ice Cream Containers pinned to the wall around the BYU Cougar Clock. My house is bleeding Blue for a BCS win to shout with Pride, A True Blue Cougar Couple of a BCS Winning Team Lives Here In This House! Do It For BYU, And US!!!

I'm glad Sete is gone, he made way too many bonehead penalties that cost us, I hope Tom can fill in physically and not make dumb mistakes like Sete.
Sete Admirer | 3:34 p.m. March 27, 2008
RE: Mailman

Yes, he made mistakes and caused penalties, but did you notice where the quarterback went on 4th and short? Sete almost always cleared out the defense when short yardage was needed. Let's give him credit for that and hopefully Sorensen will be the next great BYU center.

Cougar Keith - calm down. You're starting to scare everybody. There's more to life than whether or not some team that you don't even play on wins a game. Nobody on the team is going to think, hey guys, let's win this one for Cougar Keith. It'd mean a lot to him.
just me | 6:20 p.m. March 27, 2008
If Ben Olson starts next fall I think that cougars may win. If there second quarterback (I think a much better quarterback) starts I think the Y loses. I really doubt they'll beat Washington and UCLA. Even though we are stronger for next year I can still see at least three losses. I hope I'm wrong. As far as Sorenson goes I think he'll do just fine.

CougarKeith (and others),

Why are so many BYU fans content to just get a BCS bowl bid? The only way we get invited to a BCS bowl game is by going undefeated. And if we go undefeated and still don't get a shot at the National Title it will be a huge disappointment. No one remembers the Utes (outside of UT) from a few years ago. And no one would remember the Boise St. game (outside of Idaho) if it hadn't been one of the greatest college football games ever played.

Let's never be satisfied with the BCS scraps. The system is flawed. Don't buy into it. It's either National Championship game or Vegas Bowl for me.

How many times have the Reynolds brothers been hung, and what exactly is the benefit of doing so?
NG2H (not going 2 happen) | 12:31 a.m. March 28, 2008
To be considered for the NC game, as it is right now, BYU would have to be preseason ranked #5 or better and have zero letdowns all year; plus blow out (all) opponents by an avg of 48-6. For now, I would settle for a few BCS bowls over the next few years until things change. That would be very satisfying.
VWCH (very well could happen | 6:47 a.m. March 28, 2008
If BYU starts around fifteen, beats UCLA and Washington and then goes undefeated through the season, we have a chance at playing in THE GAME. I know it's slim, but it's a chance. We'd have to see every other team but one lose once (maybe twice), but I still think it's possible. Who knows? Maybe the BCS would put us in just to shut people up who say the mid-majors have no chance. Also, I really truly honestly think the one game we stand the biggest chance of losing this year is Utah. Washington will be tough, so will UCLA and Air Force, but Utah is most likely going to have a good team put together with its sights set on revenging a couple close losses. I'd give up a smaller toe or two for another national championship. Maybe a kidney??
Whew! | 7:39 a.m. March 28, 2008
Thanks TabbyTiger for explaining the Dick Harmonese to me. I couldn't for the life of me figure out the Chevron statement.
UCLA | 4:13 p.m. March 28, 2008
I think the UCLA will be big. Norm Chow is there and the new head coach is a winner. He just wins games. I know his past is a bit controversial but the guy had Colorado ranked. The offense will be a lot better with Chow at the helm. Hopefully this is the last year the Y plays UCLA. It will be ugly for the Y if they continue to play them. I am not so much worried about the Washington game.

BCS guarantees or national championship talk just show how rediculous your expectations are. It hurts your credibility.

Winning the conference and being highly rated are first priority. The BCS extreme possibility could be discussed in late November if it is still relavent.

I hope not but I see at least 3 losses for BYU this year. UCLA, WA and probably Utah (worm finally turns).
