I wonder how many years it will take Deron and Chris Paul's COMBINED assists to total Stockton's.

Who are the top five in double-doubles?
Malone

Boozer
Eaton
?
Rounded out the top five by rounding down.

Jimmy is amazed at the gaps in the Jazz record books after Karl and John, it just goes to show that Deron and Carlos have a long ways to go to match the two greatest Jazzmen.

Hey Jimmy, did you expect there not to be a gap in the record books? Of course there's a gap, DUH???? Give the new guys 20 years, and then see how close they are.

The Jazz will never win any championchips with
Jerry Sloans style of basketball, good regular
season team....but mark my words never a championship team under his helm. He does not have it.

Didn't know there was such a thing as "Championchips". They must be mighty fine tastin taters.
ew: Jimmy Z | 10:52 a.m. March 27, 2008
Never say never.
By the way, don't they serve "championchips" with fish in London?

I think the jazz can contend with any team in the NBA for a title this year. But what does history tell us?
From 1980-2003. 13 of 24 championship teams had the best regular season record in the NBA. The average regular season winning percentage over that time for NBA Champions is 0.751.
Only four championship teams over this time were below 0.700.
These were 695,695,683, and 573(94-95 Houston rockets, fluke? Did they make a trade half way through the season?).
If the jazz win out they will be at 695. If they have only 1 more loss they will be at 683.
The good news is only Boston,Detroit, and NO(barely) fit the above 700 criteria. The better news is the Jazz can beat Boston and Detroit should they make it there. Also everyone in the west besides NO is below 683, though the top teams reside in this area.

The Jazz have beat everyone in the NBA this year at least 1 time...
To me, that says they can play with anyone and contend for the title...I am not guaranteeing they will win the title, but I know, and they know, they can play with anyone...

Nice statistical work adam d.
I think we may be looking at another championship for Boston this year though. The west is good, and deeper than it has ever been but I think the records this season do tell the tale. You have Boston...and then you have everybody else. I mean they are 6 games ahead of the second best record in the league!!! They have 3 elite scorers, good role players, veterans with championship experience, and they play very very good defence. I don't care who comes out of the west, Boston is the hands down favorite to be the Champions of the NBA this year.

Adam D raises interesting figures.
Perhaps the game has changed in the time since '03 though?
Anyways, check out the Hollinger odds on
big ESPN.

Just did check those Holinger odds, I know I said Boston was the team to beat, but I was still suprised the computer numbers had them at 40% when the next highest was Detroit at 12%.
Don't forget New Orleans in your list of contenders, I know it feels like thay are a year away from being a real contender but their record says otherwise.

Adam you make a comment about Houston making a "trade", turns out quite a few teams altered their appearance so based off your conclusion there should a reasonable excuse if your theory on winning percentages doesn't play out.
Re: Adam | 3:23 p.m. March 27, 2008
Actually the 94-95 Houston team just rested their veteran starters until the last month and Hakeem & Clyde were fresh and ready to go. Maybe Karl & John should have tried that a few times.
Boring | 3:58 p.m. March 27, 2008
Snoooze. Wake me up when it is over. Has that timeout ended yet? Do you do anything but dribble, like a child?
OMG - 2 minutes turns into 2 hours. That must be the lamest sport ever.
Go Jazz - can't wait to watch you fail, again.

I am so unimpressed with your basketball team. Lame-lameness. I can't wait to watch them CHOKE!

I agree Boston is the team to beat this year. They have been extremely successful with their road trips to the west.
Hornets will get a chance to prove themselves as contenders as they finish up the season. I like their team. They have all the right pieces for a championship.
If they jazz do not make it I would actually like to see Hornets or Celtics win it all. Anyone but the Lakers in '08!

If you are all going to talk about stats then you should be talking about stats that matter.
Stat 1:
The jazz have been in the playoffs 27 of the last 30 years and didn't win a chamionship.
Stat 2:
They had two of the supposedly 50 greatest players of all time for like 17 years and did not win a championship. How many teams with two of the 50 greatest players of all time did not win championship? Perhaps they were the wtong players?
Stat 3 And most important stat is:
The road record.
Teams with best road records are in the east: detroit, boston, closely followed by orlando.
Teams in the west: Lakers by far are the best. Followed by new orleans, houston, phoenix, san antonio, golden state. Then the jazz are way back in 8th place.
The best road teams are almost always tthe ones to go the farthest in the playoffs. unless another gets lucky like the jazz last year and play GS.
Which means it will be the lakers vs detroit or boston. Others may get healthy or lucky like an orlando or san antonio or houston.
This is how the playoffs will playout.

dude you pepole need to stop smackin on the jazz. they bave the right peices to contend for the championship. terrible and boring if you were real jazz fans you would stop hitting on the jazz and actually complement them on things. like there home record (the best in the nba). and there improving road record, hey its not the best but its better than some of the teams. anyways the jazz will go all the way. and they have a great team.
go jazz.
and by the way you pepole that were critisizing the jazz about the playoffs last year they didnt get lucky it was all a matter of how well they played and they played well last year.

The Celtics and Lakers are certainly the favorites. What no one seems to recognize is that the playoffs depend on one thing, MATCHUPS. There is one team that the Jazz are scared to death of.... The Lakers. There is one other team who can probably beat the Jazz, the Spurs. Besides those two, thinking totally objectively I don't see how you can argue that the Jazz aren't the favorites.
Now, don't jump off a bridge when you notice that the Jazz would play the Spurs if the playoffs started today. It's all so close, and all the contenders have multiple games against other contenders that everything could change in the next two weeks. If the Jazz stay at #4, then we need to hope to heck that the Lakers finish at #2 and the Spurs #3. If LA plays GS and the Spurs play the Suns, you can expect two upsets. Seriously, look at the matchups!
So, although the Jazz are underdogs against two WC teams, they really do still have a good chance at the trophy.
Also, Williams is so mentally and physically tough, I wouldn't even bet against them against the Lakers or Spurs!
