maybe with the right training some of the girls from the FLDS Compound could become a Miss Texas. A much better use of their skills than being a teen age bride.

So another Miss USA for Texas again. How many crowns does texas have now? I remember there was this decade when texas made it 5 times straight.

This pageant was just crazy....Heather Mills as one of the judges? You have to be kidding. The entire judging panel was convoluted....who was that crazy looking cosmotologist? What a weirdo! He must be doing the owner of the competition's hair. This competition is so biased I can't believe it. The most beautiful contestants were blown off by these crazy judges....it was completely stacked and set up from the beginning. Donny and Marie have a new TV show coming up don't they? Their antics were cute, but a bit over the top, even for a fan such as I. The swimsuits are just too skimpy for mainstream TV....the music was just crazy jungle beat baloney to encourage gyrations from the contestants....I'm no prude, but these beauty pageants are over the top, and the most beautiful contestants are getting the shaft. Of the final 5, the lady from New Jersey was clearly the best.

Texas has a lot of beautiful women which is why they win so often. Utah, per capita, probably has more but they are still more conservative when it comes to choice of clothing.
Totally Shocked! | 10:30 a.m. April 12, 2008
I turned on the pageant to see how Donny & Marie would do, and had to turn it off right away -- too much skin, too little clothing, and Marie doing an ad for the casinos?! I was totally shocked!

I don't know if these pageants are supposed to represent the best of the USA, but if immodesty, gambling, and judges who really aren't qualified is what makes us the USA, heaven help us!

This is eye candy for men, and embarassing for women -- most of us don't look like that, and my heart ached as I thought of what those women must have sacrificed to fit in those outfits.

Our children need role models, both in fashion & function. Let's get a pageant that rewards modesty, integrity, intelligence, etc. That's how we can build good leaders/mothers/role models for tomorrow!

To totally shocked, I agree with you 1000%!!! And as far as the Osmonds, nothing they do surprises me & never has.

It's because the Miss USA pageant is a "beauty pageant" and the basis of who wins depends on who is the skiniest and whose dress is the most revealing. Because it is Donald Trump's pageant, of course the judges are actors and actresses. In the Miss America organization, they used to have prestigious people judge who had master's degrees and were well-known musicians and things like that, but now they've gone with actors and actresses too. The Miss America pageant might as well not even worry about having a talent competition anymore because it's becoming just like Miss USA and focusing only on outside beauty!!!!

sad sad sad

you petty jealous Westerners

sour grapes and all that

give these Southern beauties the credit they deserve!

first you envy our SEC football and now our women

have a little dignity, even if you can't muster any pride ;)
I'm shocked, too! | 5:08 p.m. April 12, 2008
It wasn't even fun to watch. I enjoy the Osmonds but did they know they were going to pitch for the gambling casinos? The girls , music, and lack of clothing made it a nonmemorable event. I wish we did honor BEAUTY, TALENT, and KNOWLEDGE.

Am I the only person who recalls Pres. Kimball speaking about beauty pageants and telling young LDS women that they should not participate in them? I have not noticed comments from readers about this issue whenever news stories about Mormons in beauty pageants come up. Was Pres. Kimball's pronouncement voided by later prophets? Any ideas on this issue?

Texas is considered by most people in the west, to be part of the west.

I live in the South, in the SEC, and there is a huge difference between the flat treeless landscapes of Texas and the never-ending greenery of the south.

HUGE difference, if you've lived in both places you'd know.

I thought Texas would win from the beginning although she wasn't my favorite. Did you notice her constantly posing herself so she had a side pose (showing her chest)to the judges at all times? She ddefinetly sold herself.

Oh, stop being jealous. Texas is just big enough that it contains a little variety. The east third is just as green and tree-filled as anywhere else in the south. And the middle third has a unique beauty all its own. I would give my left arm to live in the Texas Hill Country.

And again, Texas is just big enough that it is considered to be both part of the south and part of the west. After all it takes up about a third of each. And the beauty there is magnificent (not just the landscape).
I guess Texas missed the. . . | 5:42 a.m. April 13, 2008

in all fairness to Texas | 6:00 a.m. April 13, 2008
I think they do have trees there, in some places. But you are right, it can be pretty stark.

I'm from Texas and was embarrased by Crystle Stewart representing my state, No, texans in general do not look anorexic, and what was with all her fake polyester hair? I'm sorry to say the other runner ups were REAL beauties and got cheated because this was the year we chose to be politically correct! There's a reason why they have a Miss Black America pageant! Crystle be true to your race without the weave!
