I watched last night for the first time--by accident while flipping through the channels. I am a music major and music teacher. HE HAS AN AMAZING VOICE AND GREAT TALENT! It would be nice if he wins, but he must go on performing, no matter what. He also needs to keep grounded. Success in the music world is one thing, but balancing life WITH talent is another. Good luck Singer Boy! You are a pleasure to listen to--which if more than many of the performers are. You have great talent...but remember, it's what we do with what we have that helps us us to grow to who we may become....conprendo?

American Idol is still on? Why?
Bob G | 5:26 a.m. April 16, 2008
I agree, with this show as over hyped and all these fake reality shows are a waste of time and don't have any reason to watch them. They all remind me of the fabled "Gong Show" with all its hype and stupidity. The P.T. Barnum quote is still working and alive and well used by the networks. Tried to watch the show but after 30 seconds hit the remote. It's all easy come, easy go, and not at all entertaining, except if you are a teenager that has nothing better to do. Phase to black........, the show has ended.

Way to go, David! We are rooting for you
Donny de Murray | 7:51 a.m. April 16, 2008
I hope David doesn't win Idol. I hope he is #2.
That way his talent will be recognized but Idol won't "own" him.

David has a great voice, but he really needs to develop some interpersonal skills. He has a deer-in-the-headlights look every time someone asks him a question. I guess that comes with age, but he seems to lack self-confidence.
Sheath | 8:43 a.m. April 16, 2008
Actually, as soon as you try out for Idol, they own you for the rest of your career, regardless of whether you win the whole thing or get zero air-time. It is a pretty slick deal they have going, actually. Winning, thereforre, is better, because then they promote you and get you duets with stars, ala Jordin Sparks.
Lee | 9:00 a.m. April 16, 2008
Jordin Sparks should not have won anyway! Everybody knows that Melinda Doolittle was the real winner. Idol lost a huge part of thier audiance last year when Doolittle was voted off.Like the year before,Idol turned into a popularity contest and not a talent show. This year, everyone loves Brooke, including myself. However, she had a poor performance last night, but probably won't be voted off.
Music Man David Archuleta | 10:04 a.m. April 16, 2008
Way to go David Archuleta.
Everyone is so proud that you are from Utah and Murray. We all feel like you live "just up the street" from us. You really know how to develop your talent. It is great to have a famous person who is humble come from our great state.

I agree with Lee. I watch AI because I want the most talented singer to win. That should have been Melinda Doolittle last year and Chris Dougherty the year before. This year it should be David Cook or Carly Smithson, I haven't decided. I don't care what religion the person is. I'm LDS but don't think Brooke or David A. is the best singer.
Sarah | 10:20 a.m. April 16, 2008
Sorry, but I don't think David A is a great singer. I would flip the channel if I heard him on the radio. He's very "High School Musical." He seems like a nice kid...but no idol...though I thought the same about Jordin Sparks and she won.
Cindy | 10:29 a.m. April 16, 2008
I really think that David has an incredible voice. I'm not one to vote for someone just because they're from my state, my religion, or any other such reason. I vote on the talent and stage presence. I actually am voting for Kristy Lee Cook also right now as I think she deserves a spot in the top 5. She's come a long way since the beginning and I love her voice. I love Brooke's folksy sound and stage presence but overall David has the best voice. Sadly I think David Cook could win but I can't stand listening to him sing. This week though I hope Mr. Dreadlocks (sorry I forgot his name, we call him Tiny Tim) is voted off. He drives me crazy. I have to say though Jordin Sparks definitely deserved to win but I was disappointed with her CD and the song choices on it. I'm old enough to be all these kids' mother so AI is defnitely not just for teenagers! We all enjoy watching it as a family!
Anonymous | 10:32 a.m. April 16, 2008
David is amazing. His voice is pure and clear. And he's a great kid on top of it. Anyone who says differently has jealousy and criticism issues. Best of luck to him!
Get A Life | 10:42 a.m. April 16, 2008
It's all about young talent for the most part, so please don't judge their talent to older experienced singers--and for sure if you do not like the show move on. I personnaly don't watch it much but we do have choices people. I think for his age that David is an execeptional talent, and I am very thankful that he just happens to be from Utah. Good luck David.
Avid AI watcher | 10:58 a.m. April 16, 2008
It's great to hear that David A. is a terrific kid. He definitely is blessed with talent. But I agree with another poster in that he has terrible stagefright, and that doesn't bode well for being a teen idol. I can see him making a Christian album, but not pop. (I think his wheezy breathing might do him in too.)
I think Carly is getting shafted by the judges. She is the real deal and they keep saying that something didn't quite work. Bull. They want her gone for some reason. (And they obviously want both Davids in the final.)
Brooke is very sweet and has a nice folksy sound, but she really struggled last night and should go home soon. And she needs to HUSH when the judges are talking to her. Zip it!
There, now I feel better.

Luana | 12:03 p.m. April 16, 2008
David is so young and already so talented. Maturity will only make him more talented and more marketable. He seems like another Donny Osmond (no complaints here!)
I think Carly has an okay voice but she is pigeonholed into one thing. I agree with the judges completely on her. I'm not predjudiced but it just doesn't seem an Irish girl should be able to be the "American" Idol.

Phil Ollero | 12:40 p.m. April 16, 2008
the look on his face after he sings the song is what I like about David. It's the look that says " wow, did I really sing that" look. He will go all the way because he's got a great recording voice. And he never talk back and mouth off to any criticism.
WHAT??? | 12:55 p.m. April 16, 2008

Re, WHAT??? | 1:12 p.m. April 16, 2008
Clearly, you have lived a sheltered life and absolutely do not know what prejudice is.
Luana's comment was meant to convey the thought that it is "American" Idol, so the winner should be from the U.S. Whether that is really the intent of the show or not, I don't know (and don't care). But don't nuance Luana's comment into more than it is.

"VOTE FOR DAVID" | 1:55 p.m. April 16, 2008
Go David Archuletta! David will make it to the final two and I'd bet money that he'll take the prize this year. To the Des News... would like more stories on David. An incredible voice and seems to be a great kid.

Am I the only one thoroughly bored by the across-the-board ballads in last night's song selections?
I mean, I KNOW that ballads are easier to sing because they are slower and higher on the sap factor, but didn't any of the contestants feel even the slightest bit of interest in doing one of Mariah's many get-up-and-dance pop/R&B numbers??
Good grief people, this isn't Air Supply Idol.

"Air Supply Idol"....hehe I love it....

Did I miss something?
I think David is great both as a person and as a singer.
Irish or not, Carley shouldn't win because she seems to get worse every week. I don't know what happened, but last night she was really the weakest, followed by Brooke.
I've watched the show since the second season, and thanks to TIVO am able to keep up. I like it. It's much more entertaining that blood and guts stupid reality shows.

I am loving Idol this year. My comment is for "Have a Life" who commented "why is American Idol still on". To comment about getting a life is funny coming from a person who is blogging at 4:57 AM this morning. Talk about someone who needs to get a life. :) Maybe you should watch it and get some culture in your life.
Jealousy is definitely a real characteristic as shown by you.
David Archuletta is amazing and no one can really deny that if they are being honest. My prediction will be the two David's in the finals with David Archuletta winning it all. At least I hope that is how it ends. Who knows with the shock of Michael Johns last week. Let's all keep voting for David A. so we are sure he wins.

Lovin it,
Some people are so busy that they are up late working and may swing by the DESNEWS for a short break. I wish I had your life. I would be snoozing too.

Way TO go David!! another great performance!!
Mike R. | 3:59 p.m. April 16, 2008
After David does his two year mission stint, he will no longer have that deer in the headlights look. As he gets older, he will get better.
Of course, I'm prejudiced because I grew up in Murray. Go Spartans!

David totally deserves to win. He seems like he is a really nice guy, and like the judges say, he has the whole package. He's adorable, young, likable, and has an outstanding voice. And for any of you who think all he can sing is ballads, you thought wrong! Check out his top 24 boys performance! It was awesome! Go David!
Go David!!!!! | 6:05 p.m. April 16, 2008
I mean David Bowie...musical genius that will be known long after this Archuleta guy is forgotten.
Karen | 6:38 p.m. April 16, 2008
I think David Archuleta is the best by far. I love his pure, soulful, passionate voice. The rest of them are okay but don't move me like David does. I love everything he does and am looking forward to buying his CDs and seeing him in concert. I really am hopeful that he will win Idol. He deserves it!
David is painfully shy, so I think all things considered, he's doing really well. A lot of us like that honest, sweet, unstudied persona. In time he'll get used to being in the spotlight. For now, no complaints from me or the millions who love the kid.

Kaila | 10:45 p.m. April 16, 2008
I absolutly love David Archuleta. He is my favorite by far. I wish I knew him. Even without the singing voice, he seems like a really nice guy. I really wish I was in his stake or ward. I have bought like all his songs. He is a true star. He will not turn out like all those other singers with the drugs and problems, he will still stay humble and sweet. He better! He is one of the most amazing singers I have ever heard. I think it is so funny when all the girls scream when they hear his name or sees him, even though I am one of them. Ha Ha! David Archuleta is really going to win this thing! Go David Archuleta!!!!!!

"David Bowie - Rebel Rebel" From: mastert316
and
"David Bowie - Heroes (live)" From: janet605713
Archuleta won't be rockin' like that when he's 61 years old. He'll be fat, bald and talkin' about the career he had back in 2008.

What's Up w/Inferiority Complex? | 6:19 a.m. April 17, 2008
Why do Utahns worry so much about where someone is from or what religion they are? Utahns seem to really want the approval of the rest of the world.
I don't hear Californians getting excited because someone famous is from California. I don't hear Jews saying "Hey did you know that Jerry Seinfeld is Jewish?".
And when there is a news story the newscaster says "right here in Utah" blah blah. I never hear that phrase anywhere else. Or there's an earthquake and they say "Hey we could have an earthquake too".
You act like a state full of wannabes.

No inferiority complex | 6:44 a.m. April 17, 2008
Just pride in one of our own. I have lived all over the country and you are right, bigger states don't think much about it when somebody hits it big, but in states with smaller populations it doesn't happen every day. There is nothing unusual about this kind of excitement. And wishing somebody well, doesn't make them a "wannabe"
Anonymous | 7:47 a.m. April 17, 2008
Yeah, we're wannabes. We wannabe excited that one of our own is succeeding. And that he's a nice kid and not someone the press can dig up a lot of trash on.
And yeah, we like our state. So what. It's a great place to live. Maybe Californians are jaded, being so used to Hollywood and stars popping out of every trendy cafe.
Don't like Utah? Move.
David A. - Good Luck to you!

Have you read the article in Washington Post? David A is dubbed as a teen anarchist for not giving in to Ryan Seacrest plea to join the group he thinks is safe. This kid is not only very talented; he also has a very strong sense of right and wrong and can hold his ground pretty much. Very proud of him. Go David!
Also, have you guys heard the studio version of When You Believe by David A? OMG! This tops Imagine, Smokey Mountain, Angels, You're the Voice. It's in YouTube if you guys are interested. To me, it's better than Maria Carey's and Whitney's version. His voice is so pure and smooth. Check is out.
