Play Shakerin | 2:19 a.m. April 18, 2008
Does everyone remember a few years ago when Lyndell White and Reggie Bush and other shared the backfield at USC.. Pete Carrol used different backs that had unique running styles.. Mack & Asiata have the same type of running style , which is more of power style.. They are similar to Lyndell White they really don't have the break away 4.4 speed.. Now true freshman Shakerin from Alta high runs like a 4.4 and has a similar running style of Reggie bush. I think it would be a mistake to redshirt this kid.. He is 6'3 215 runs a 4.4 he all ready has a college body, and size to play.. I think Shaq could make a immediate impact on offense... I have seen this kid play and he is legit.. Is anyone thinking the same thing i am?

Yea, I remember hearing the same thing about Wide Reciever for the last two years, and we all know how that turned out. I appreciate the optimism, but I will believe it when I see it. The good news is I love this Oline and coach Dickey, so I think any combination of backs can have a decent year.

Shak IS legit | 7:53 a.m. April 18, 2008
As a Ute fan I am excited about him...as a former coach of his, I know he is a greet kid and will do very well at Utah!!!
Shak IS legit | 7:54 a.m. April 18, 2008
Oops...i mean "great" not greet kid!!!
I'll believe it | 8:30 a.m. April 18, 2008
When I see it. Utah has a very mediocre batch of running backs. I hope they prove me wrong

Shak is a good player, but he is nowhere near as physically ready as Mack and Asiata to play D-1 level football. he has good legs, but still very lean in the upper body. I think he has a lot of potential though and I'm glad he's a UTE. there will be no need to rush him along.

To not ready yet | 8:53 a.m. April 18, 2008
I guess you haven't seen Shaq lately

seems like we either have a fleet of wide receivers and a darryl poston or great runners, and limited receivers, but who will emerge to catch the ball and please,,, stay healthy this year, what a smack in the face oregon state was last year.

It is a great relief to have a core of good runningbacks, it will take a HUGE load off brian johnson.

GO UTES!!

Actually I have seen Shaq lately. I've also seen Mack and Asiata. That's how i know shaq is not at thier physical level yet.
O-Line | 9:21 a.m. April 18, 2008
Deep at running back means absolutely nada...the question is, how's the O-Line?!

I am suprised at what some of you "UTE" fans are saying. Mediocre backs? Are you kidding me? Mack missed the first game and really didn't do anything against Air Force, and yet he still gained 1200+ yards in the season. I would bet that you dont find to many running backs in the country that when you eliminate 2 games from their totals that they would be over 1000 yards.
Mack is the man! Anyone that thinks differently is plain stupid!
We are going to have a great year this year, especially at running back.
GO UTES!
Mediocre batch? | 9:35 a.m. April 18, 2008
To whoever said that, you’ve got to be kidding me. Yes, I’m a huge Ute fan, but I don’t have homer goggles on when I say this is a very good, if not great batch of running backs. Mack proved last year that he is much better than mediocre. Asiata only had four carries last year vs. Oregon State and I was impressed with how he was running to that point. He’s going to be good. I won’t be surprised if each of those guys rush for 1,000 yards this year.

Furthermore, Stowers proved he can be serviceable, and a lot of people are high on this kid from Alta.

I’m excited for a great season. I think we’ll have 10+ wins this year, contend for or win a conference championship, and end the season in the top 25.
WHITTS BOLD STATEMENTS | 10:01 a.m. April 18, 2008
I WONDER WHEN KWHITT IS GOING TO BUST OUT THE "THIS IS THE DEEPEST RUNNING BACK SITUATION IN THE COUNTRY?" LINE?

What about Lavell Peterson?
WHITTS BOLD STATEMENTS | 11:16 a.m. April 18, 2008
There's a CAP lock on your keyboard. See it. Use it. Be it.
LaVelle Peterson | 11:42 a.m. April 18, 2008
I hadn’t heard of this kid until the 10:21 AM post. I googled him and found a 9 minute high school highlight film. WOW!!!! This kid has major game. He is shifty like Reggie Bush and can run away from people, but was also running over defenders. He was rushing for multiple TDs and at least 200 yards almost every game. Went over 300 yards quite a few times. In one game he had 11 carries for 382 yards and 6 TDs.

He is on the current 2008 roster as a redshirt freshman.

I think the utes will have two 1,000 yard rushers, watch and see!

GO UTES!!

p.s. PLAY SHAK!
What are you smoking? | 12:05 p.m. April 18, 2008
So at least one Ute fan thinks they have a Reggie Bush and Lyndell White combo up on the hill, huh? I don't think there has been another running back in college football history that had Bush's style of running, so please don't tell me that a kid who has never played a down of college football has his style. Man, I thought the cougars fans were drinking too much cool-aid this year.
andrewute1 | 1:27 p.m. April 18, 2008
Well if byu fans can compare max hall to ty detmer, steve young, and the other "great qb's" from byu, ute fans can compare to whoever the heck we want!

GO UTES!!
Re: What are you smoking? 12:05 | 2:29 p.m. April 18, 2008
What are you smoking? Nobody said we have a Reggie Bush/Lendell White combo on the Hill!
The Ute fan who said that said Peterson is shifty “like” Reggie Bush, not “he is the next Reggie Bush”.

I just watched the same highlight real that fan mentioned. It is a 9 minute long video on youtube. Google LaVelle Peterson, Utah. It is the first link. I’ve seen Reggie Bush’s high school highlights, and this reminded me too of Reggie Bush. So what am I saying – he’ll win a Heisman and be drafted #2 overall? No. I’m saying he runs with similar style as Reggie and has potential to be a REALLY good back at the U.
re: La Velle | 4:46 p.m. April 18, 2008
Every person has a great highlight reel, and that is why they are recruited. Highlight reels mean nothing. When you get to the next level, you then have to prove. Very few end up proving it.
