This is a great thing on so many levels. Most jails are ill-equipped to take care of inmates' illnesses or injuries, so having that ability will help not only the officers who are at risk when they have to take inmates to a public facility, but also the inmates who often do not have adequate medical care. I hope Salt Lake County's medical unit is successful and will be a model for other jails to follow.
