Maybe we should also put "gaming islands," in the middle of our larger public pools. This would force the gamers to swim out to the island before playing and cause them to use body parts other than their thumbs.

Well, I guess it will get their heart rate up. And to Bob: You forget that when kids loose they tend to punch and kick the walls, and sometimes each other. so it's not such a bad idea.

I thought a fitness center was suppose to get the kids out from in front of the TV and to get in shape? Sounds like you are giving a place for kids who do not have this game at home a place to play it. Not a FAN of this.....sorry.

I've been to these libraries back east and I don't believe it increases book borrowing at all. What I saw were a lot more rowdy kids in the libraries and a lot more videos and CD's going out the doors. This is all about money for the fitness center and nothing else.
I'm sure they'll put the consoles right next to the climbing wall so that those of us who want to go to the center for fitness have to work up a sweat just getting past the mob.

WOW! Do people actually thinks this is going to work. Now you will have kids leave activities to go plop down on a couch and play or watch X-Box. That is great, get kids out of the house, but what happens to the kids that are already out? They will be distracted by the new "game room." After a while the whole fitness center will have to convert to a game room, to accomadate the demand for playing X-Box. Don't forget about the potential burglary.

I thought there was a problem with obesity in this country, and that fitness centers were supposed to be the answer. Guess not.

It is nice to see so many experts coming out to to post here so that we can know in advance this is going to fail. Kudos to the fitness center for trying something original and out of the box. If it works, way to go. If not, just get rid of it.

Just getting those kids (that are somewhat socially introverted), into a place where there is adult supervision with kids of varying degrees of different talents and abilities, and by using a variety of forms of entertainment/recreation is not such a bad thing. Yes, the fitness center is in business to make money- nothing wrong with that. I agree with wait and see.

They really ought to try something using the Wii system. Trust me, you can get a workout playing that thing, since you actually have to move! No sitting on a couch for that.

At least try wireless controllers. Hook the controller to a treadmill and make them walk while they play. Its not hard. I do it at home everyday.
