I had a condo with white solid surface coutertops. Those were miserable, no amount of cleaner or bleach ever had those things spot free. Then our idiot renters burned holes in one of the bathroom sinks with cigarettes. I really did not like thoe counters at all. I have like our new laminate counters. My mother in law has granite and is over-protective of it so in my opinion she could have spent less for laminate. Ours look just as nice but are cheaper. It would be nice to be able to set stuff right on the countertops. Maybe someday.
