The truth of the matter is that girls golf really wasn't ready to start this year. Ask any coach. They had to scrape the bottom of the barrel just to find players. Some schools decided not to even bother. So be thankful the UHSAA agreed to even do it. Once the number of players increases and the skill level increases, there will be more divisions and more players at state. Honestly, there's only a dozen girls in the entire state who have a decent game.

The fact of the matter is that all but maybe 2 or 3 schools out of all of 4A and 5A are fielding teams. Many schools have 12-15 players but do not have enough playing positions available for matches.
The girls should be greatful to have their own season, however, the quality of play should have nothing to do with the opportunities made available to them.
My point is - the boys should not be given more than the girls - That is the law.

Winning a state title this year in a separate division for each classification would be meaningless because there's not enough good players. The real players in the state want it to be combined this year because it will mean more for whoever wins.

Hey I'm from southern utah and there have been plenty of girls who've shown interest and have been playing golf. Some girls were turned down because there were not enough spots. Don't be surprised if a team from southern utah wins the entire tourney because the girls down here can really play. Only 4 people of the all-state team? okay that's ridiculous, but all of us down here are grateful that girls golf finally came to pass.

The UHSAA did not allot enough money in their budget for trophies for both the 4A and 5A state meet - So they are combing all 4A & 5A schools for one state golf meet. There will be only 1 winner and 1 runner up for all 50-some schools in the state- as well as only 4 all-state team members with no 2nd team or honorable mention. The UHSAA has done good in bringing girls golf to the stae (albeight, a good number of years behind all other states) but their administrative execution for the first year is laughable and unfair. I guess Title IX does not apply to the first year. (Compare boys state golf with girls - Only 4 girls can play compared to 6 boys. Boys play 36 holes compared to 18 for girls. - A combined 4A & 5A champion - compared to seperate champions for boys)
- Yes their are a good number of beginning girls playing for the first time. But this is no excuse for the neglect on the part of the UHSAA.
