These atrocities are still being played out in Africa today. They were played out in Cambodia under Pol Pot,and in Rwanda in the 90's.I fear that Kenya and Zimbabwe are ready to go down this path as well.We live in a very frightening world.
Rwanda etc. etc. etc. | 7:30 a.m. May 2, 2008
I was able to visit the floors containing the tribute to the Jewish Holocaust victims at the Imperial War Museum in London. As with other places of remembrance, it was overwhelming. At the time, all I could think of was we can at least remember and honor those people. In the last month or so, I have learned much about the Rwandan Genocide in 1994. That leads your mind to Cosovo, and Darfur and eastern Congo (which has had the most people killed since the 6 million Jews of World War II.) etc. etc. etc. etc.
So sadly, the Jewish Holocaust victims have many companions.

"Will you take up the burden of history...?"
Will we all take up the burden of opposing tyrrany and oppression? Will we all recognize what really happened in Weimar Germany? How the German nation was in crisis and how Hitler was the hope to return them to their glory? How in the name of that hope and the promise of protecting "family and traditional values," the basic civil rights and liberties of others (non-Arians) were eliminated? How Protestant Christian leaders (Kittel, Althous, Hirsch, etc.) turned the Christian theology into Nazi propoganda? How Catholic religionists turned their theology into a pro-Nazi propoganda machine? (Robert Krieg: "Catholic Theologians in Nazi Germany"; Robert Ericksen: "Theologians Under Hitler").
Will we learn the lesson that we are STILL in the same kind of crisis, and unless we are very careful, WE will become an oppressive people and jusify it in the name of protecting our "family and traditional values"?!
Wake up, Utah! The religious dogma that supports tyrrany is all around you!

Bono2,
You are so right! It's sad that many Utahns won't admit your warning into their waking thoughts.

"Katz, 84, was 15 years old when he was arrested and taken to a concentration camp while on the way to work. He never saw his parents again."
I almost thought this was an article from the raid in Texas.
Its not religion that has brought all this suffering...its intolerance.

Talk about insensitive! Park City is commemorating the Holocaust this week by producing its annual "Follies" as a parody of "Fiddler on the Roof." The rules are different for rich people.

Re:Oh.... I see exactly your point! Re:Bono2... I think I know who you are talking to as well. There is a difference between "Elitist LDS" and those who actually live their religion. The Elitists are much like the Pharisees of the New Testament, they won't let their kids play with your kids if your not "Active" or a "Member", and snoot their noses at you, and such forth. I would like to remind "THEM" and inform you, their behavior is CONDEMNED by Church Leadership, and Tolerance, Acceptance, and Inclusion is Supposed to be the Practice! I apologize for their RUDENESS, INSENSITIVITY, and Non-Christian Ethics and way of patterning their lives. I assume that is the direction of your seemingly pointed comments and I just wanted to address it.

Wow is this wierd, I just watched the "Diary of Anne Frank" last night on DVD, I got it at the Library, it has been on my mind as of late. My Fathers Grandfather was Jewish, and all his family before him, came from Europe through Canada into Vermont and NY. Part of my family has been ashamed of that heritage, I have always been very Proud of it! They were here before the holocaust, but I know some of his family were lost in it. I had a very close German friend who happened to be a "Nazi". She had to be in order to teach school, or she would have to make bullets and bombs in a factory. After the war she met her future husband, and in her interview she was told she couldn't come to America because she was a member of the "Party". She told me how she told the guy I could either make bombs to kill Allied soldiers, or be a "Nazi" and teach in a 1 room school house without teaching the Propoganda, which is what she did. The guy cried and let her come to America. I Love Her Very Much!

Anon 10:53,
Your reply to Bono2 is fantastic. It's too bad that so many "Elitist LDS" are able to determine for themselves that the counsel you cite just doesn't apply to them.
A family friend, a Hungarian Holocaust survivor, recently passed away and I just watched a show about Rudolf Vrba.
The aspect of the show that was most striking is how the majority of an oppressive group can be blissfully unaware as oppression and atrocities take place.

Lest We Forget | 2:33 p.m. May 2, 2008
We should all pause to remember those who perished in the Holocaust (Jews, Rom, and others deemed undesirable by the NAZI State).
Lest We Forget
Shalom

When I read all of your comments, I just have to shake my head and smile (except LEST WE FORGET). You are so intolerant and ignorant of anyone except who does not share YOUR biased opinions. Humility is the word of the day.
