Bravo Professor Jones, bravo. Why DID a 47 story skyscraper fall in less that 10 seconds? I don't know, but it makes me wonder.

Right or wrong, this man has courage.
And his evidence is difficult to refute.

Instead of branding this man 'unpatriotic' or a 'lunatic' the Government should work with Mr. Jones. If they have nothing to hide then you would think they would have a look at the iron spheres and try to figure out what they are.

Thank you, Daniel -- why indeed did three WTC skyscrapers fall at essentially free-fall speed, especially when only two were hit by planes? We have data which provides crucial answers...
My colleague Kevin Ryan wrote me this morning "They took the high road this time." I think so, too.
The reporter (Tad Walch) was willing to speak about microspheres and red/gray chips which we found in the WTC dust -- and to nudge NIST to take a look at the evidence we have uncovered.
That's what we want -- to have serious scientists and engineers and the public take a look at the data! As Tad Walch correctly quoted me, I love my country and I seek the truth that will help keep us free -- and bring peace and economic stability.

The peer-reviewed paper can be easily accessed by Googling "Fourteen points Bentham". The title of this paper begins with "Fourteen points" and the paper was published in a Civil Engineering journal by Bentham Scientific.
The "Fourteen Points" paper regarding the WTC destruction has been translated into Czech and appears in the Journal of 9/11 Studies (on-line, google that).
The authors hold the copyright to the peer-reviewed paper (our thanks to the respected editors at the Open Civil Engineering Journal) and so we can strongly encourage further translations and publications of the article -- into Spanish, German, French, Italian...
Thanks to Petr Kral for his first translation of this paper.
If you wish to contribute to a translation of this paper, please email me at HardEvidence@gmail.com. Let's take the high road in getting the truth out.

Continue the research, Dr. Jones. I applaud your efforts; thanks to objective investigation such as yours, the truth will be known.

Steve Jones is a true American hero. His research into 9/11 is making it very difficult to perpetuate the lies surrounding this tragedy.

For six years I believed the official "story"; I no longer do.
For six years I never questioned the official "story", now it's all I can do.
For those of you who want to see how badly we were fooled that day I recoment the following -
YouTube: September Clues
You won't believe how much CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC & FAUX News tricked us. The lies that were broadcast on TV that day.
If you don't have time to watch all 9 parts (rougly 7 minutes a piece), then most certainly take the time to watch parts 3 & 9 - they will blow your mind.
911 Was an Inside Job!

It was foolish for BYU to have fired Dr. Jones. Dr. Jones took a very reasoned approach to the collapse of the World Trade Center buildings, and his research should have been supported by the University. Their hostility toward Dr. Jones is as baffling as the sudden collapses of the twin towers on 9-11.

I have never posted a comment on deseretnews.com. However, this is an issue that really needs to be exposed, and It sounds like Professor Jones is going ab out it the right way. There really are many questions that are just unanswered, and Dr. Jones is seeking to find those answers.
I am concerned the American public had the wool pulled over their eyes, and many decisions that have shaped our country have been on false claims, or at least claims that were not investigated, or allowed to be investigated. Think about it... If anyone suggested anything different than the main stream answer -- Osama was responsible just was not considered an option, rather was laughed at because no one was open to any other answer.
We have a duty to give some time to Dr. Jones and read his article to help expand our minds to what exactly happened on that terrible day.
My hat is off to you Dr. Jones, you have given up your career for a cause you believe in. I respect and admire your dedication.

It's not just the fall of the towers that's suspicious. How about the stand-down of the US Air Force?
It's just not believable that the most powerful military that has ever existed on the planet, with a budget of $500 billion/year, could not protect its own headquarters, even AFTER the WTC towers had been attacked.
How the GOP can campaign as "strong on defense" after that collossal failure is beyond me. Yet no one was fired or demoted for the multiple failures of that day.
But NBC, ABC, CNN ignore all this. Kudos to the Deseret for covering this important news!

Mr. Walch, I hope you don't receive the same treatment that Dr. Jones has by merely doing your job of reporting. He has been doing his job both as a scientist and as a concerned citizen in pointing out scientific flaws in the NIST and FEMA reports. Anyone with a halfway open mind who has reviewed the evidence regarding the collapse of the 3 WTC buildings will come away with the same questions that have prompted Dr. Jones as well as hundreds of other scientists, architects and engineers to pursue the truth as to why the buildings fell. What is so odd about that? Except by doing so you put your career in jeopardy. Visit the website Architects and Engineers for 911 Truth (ae911truth.org). Several of the 911 Commission members themselves said that the administration hindered their investigation.

The melting point of steel is not the point at which it fails. Steel undergoes a phase change at about 740 degC. Even before then, it begins to become more maleable.
The "pancakeing" of the trade centres was preceded by a shock wave that propagated ahead of the collapse zone. There were no shaped charges involved.
Iron-rich spheres and red-gray chips could be created by processes very similar to those generated by shaped charges. Could not the traces of explosives that were allegedly found be left over from the previous bombing in '93?
The conspiracy that you are claiming implies a level of intellegence, coordination and sophistication that, quite frankly, the american people do not possess.
IMHO, bin Laden had 10 times more intellegence than your average conspiracy candidate.

I applaud Dr. Jones for his methodical scientific research into some of the many unanswered questions surrounding 9/11. I am still waiting patiently for the NIST report on WTC7. I'm surprised there isn't more public outcry surrounding it's mysterious and most unusual collapse. Almost 7 years later ans STILL no report.

Too many of us are squandering that birthright for a 'mess of pottage'.

dar7yl... who are you trying to answer to? yourself?
Look, you admit that there are hundreds of unexplained phenomena, you even bring your own home-cooked explanations to them (`93 charges??? in the dust flowing all around???).
There must be another investigation - you don't, you can't, know the truth, and presumptive evidence is 100 not in favor of the official explanation.
Do you really prefer to live in a fake world created for you by tv?

It's not like the steel was in a blast furnace. It was covered with asbestos fire-proofing and the fires were so cool that there are photos of people standing in the opening where the plane hit the building, with no flames in sight anywhere.
Besides, fire burns up, not down. How can a fire on the 92nd floor weaken fireproofed steel on floors 1-91?
The towers exploded all the way down to the basement.
You don't have to be a physicist to see this. Anyone who has ever watched logs burn in their fireplace knows how fire makes things collapse: slowly and erratically.
And look at how the Bush admin profited from this! It is their only reason for invading Iraq and Afghanistan, wars they have wanted for a long time. Our bases in Afghanistan are positioned to protect the pipeline they built once we invaded.

Dar7yl,
I have seen the construction drawings(blueprints) of the towers,1 and 2 that is, and no way could they have collapsed as shown without 'help'. The core of the buildings was composed of 47 pre-stressed box section columns, each one approx. 1200mm x 500mm with a wall section of 100mm, gradually tapering up the height of the towers. These in turn had hat trusses at each floor spanning to the exterior steel columns. It was IMPOSSIBLE for the buildings to collapse as they did without the gentle persuasion of explosives.

If the 9/11 Truth Movement would take a lesson from Dr. Jones's approach, tone down some of the rhetoric and confrontational attitude ... it could help the cause. Now that the scientific analysis has reached the stage of being reviewed by other scientists, it behooves all of us to educate ourselves to the extent we are able... and share our understanding, in a dispassionate way with those who show an interest. Otherwise, the media has a field day hunting out the "kooks" to parade as representative of the 9/11 Movement. Thanks for all the dedicated researchers who are acting in such a reasonable manner. To name only a few besides Dr.Jones: Peter Dale Scott, David Ray Griffin, Richard Gage, Kevin Ryan, and so many others.

Hat's off to Prof Jones for his research and to Tad Walch for his journalism.
Those who are bothered by Dr. Jones' research should analyze their feelings and find out what the true source of the irritation is. Ask yourself some questions like "Would I want to know?" or "Why can't I be a patriot and an authoritarian follower at all times?" Or maybe "Is it ok to have more than one physics?"

Why do we keep hearing about the temperature that steel melts at? Steel becomes pliable and looses its strength far below the temperature that it melts at. Every single article that rants about the melting point of steel is sloppy and irresponsible fearmongering pseudojournalism
Nic | 3:22 p.m. May 3, 2008
"The melting point of steel is not the point at which it fails. Steel undergoes a phase change at about 740 degC. Even before then, it begins to become more maleable."
Temperature of air (flame) and temperature of steel are 2 different things. This still does not explain the fact that steel was melted.
"The "pancakeing" of the trade centres was preceded by a shock wave that propagated ahead of the collapse zone. There were no shaped charges involved."
There was not pancaking. Everything was blown outward.
"Iron-rich spheres and red-gray chips could be created by processes very similar to those generated by shaped charges. Could not the traces of explosives that were allegedly found be left over from the previous bombing in '93?"
This is ridiculous.
"The conspiracy that you are claiming implies a level of intellegence, coordination and sophistication that, quite frankly, the american people do not possess."
No one thinks the American people were responsible for 9/11...
"IMHO, bin Laden had 10 times more intellegence than your average conspiracy candidate."
You know what they say about opinions...

dar7yl - It is abundantly clear that you need to do some reading. Even NIST has rejected the "pancake collapse" scenario. It is simply not a feasible explanation for the collapses. Probably not a good idea to bring it up if you're meaning to sound educated on the subject.
I am in total support of Dr. Jones. I wish him the best in his research and I look forward to the day when the ignorant masses open their eyes. Look around. It has already begun.

I had Dr. Jones as a teacher in Physics 8 years ago and I thought he was great. I am a proffesional engineer now and it breaks my heart to see this man dedicate so much time to something that is obviously wrong. Just watch the tapes of the planes hitting the towers and you will know what really happened. It is either that or Goerge Bush and Bin Landen are best buds and the world doesn't know it. It doesn't take a Ph.D, it takes a few seconds of reasonable thought to see the truth.
Oklahoma City | 5:21 p.m. May 3, 2008
I hadn't read before about this research, but I did read years ago about the letters that a retired military officer whose speciality was demolition sent to members of Congress asking them to please do an investigation of the Oklahoma City Bombing site before the remains of the building were destroyed. The government refused to investigate and the remains were destroyed. It does make me wonder why people seem afraid of research and investigation. Do we fear more knowledge?
Another Student | 5:33 p.m. May 3, 2008
It doesnt take a Phd, its takes a few seconds of reasonable thought to see that the buildings fell at the speed of gravity.
It only takes a few moments to listen to firefighters and demolition experts seeing molten metal.
THIS IS EVIDENCE YOU ALL HAVE TO DEAL WITH.
If you're going to debate the causes of the collapses, you have to take into account ALL OF THE EVIDENCE.
Is that so unreasonable?
Free fall collapse.
Concrete pulveried in mid air.
Visible squibs and demolition wave.
Molten metal witnessed.
Formerly molten iron-rich spheres that match the chemical composition of thermite.
Red/Grey chips that match the chemical composition of thermite.
Giant pyroclastic-like surging debris clouds.

Seriously, what a buffoon. Check out the history of oil tanker explosions and bridges, like say oohhhhh, Oakland in 2007. Does he not think that 1000C won't affect the tensile strength of Steel? Think of what happens when You have 30 stories of weight suddenly falling upon a structure. It's a very big hammer for a very collapsable nail.

Hey, Student,
Could you please tell us what it is that really happened to the WTC Towers and WTC7?
I've watched the video of the planes hitting the Towers (not WTC7), the buildings stabilizing, the short cool black smoke fires, and the ensuing explosion of the point of plane impact and everything above and below it. Before that top section had a chance to smash the building (that's funny - 10% smashing 90% (90% with thicker core columns)) to the ground in 10 seconds, it was gone.
I just can't figure it out.
What about the spheres and chips that show explosive residue both exploded and unexploded?
Please try to give us a response which uses some of the professional engineering background that you have.
And, if you feel that way about your former professor, why don't you send him a note and discuss it with him?
Thanks in advance.

Keep Them Quiet | 5:52 p.m. May 3, 2008
To all those who question this theory only because of the sheer number of people involved and how they would all be keeping quiet:
If you were, in fact, willing to destroy a great number of buildings with thousands of people working inside of them, I don't see how you would have a problem with killing hundreds of people who helped to destroy said buildings.

I know Dr. Steve Jones and his wife, having met them when he was in school at Vanderbilt and we were all young Latter-day Saints in The Tennessee, Nashville Stake of The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints. His reputation, morally, academically, and spiritually, is beyond reproach. He is grounded in wisdom, and not given to flights of fantasy. His theories bear examination. His wife and he have been in my prayers ever since his initial research per the WTC was published. He is kind, soft spoken, brilliant and a scientist who bases his studies on solid research and not conjecture.
Truth | 6:14 p.m. May 3, 2008
I knew this from the beginning. I think the intelligent side of America has always known.
Say that it IS an inside job. Say that the evidence could turn out to prove something at least different than the reported story.
Under that impression wouldn't the government want to at least prove him wrong?
The biggest problem here is that so many don't want to work with Jones. Why not? Learning the truth doesn't consist of "I don't want to listen to your opinion, only mine" Yet so many Utahans and others have given this opinion.
The most powerful military with a building which has more surveillance than ANY OTHER IN THE WORLD could not show more coverage of the military H.Q.
Scientific proof is getting ignored even by Jones fellow colleagues because it doesn't fit with the 'way of Utah life'.
I'm LDS. I am no Rep. or Dem. anymore. I'm Paleo-Conservative. I do not support Bush's war for his Dad's work. I do not support Bush's oil ties. I do not support our forcing democracy as it is NOT something you can force.
I believe in Agency, seeking truth, and things that are good. This is the LDS way.

Dr Jones somehow fails to mention that his peer-reviewed paper consisted of points where he agrees with the official story. Nothing of his super-nano-thermate theories made it into his paper. As for the bit about "We are unable to provide a full explanation of the total collapse," it's a classic Truther bit of quote mining. Some of the other sentences that Dr Jones doesn't want you to know about:
"In the case of the WTC Towers, NIST has established that the failures initiated in the floors affected by the aircraft impact damage and the ensuing fires resulted in the collapse of the towers. This conclusion is supported by a large body of visual evidence collected by NIST. Your letter suggests that NIST should have used computer models to analyze the collapse of the towers. NIST carried its analysis to the point where the buildings reached global instability. At this point, because of the magnitude of the deflections and the number of failures occuring, the computer models are not able to converge on a solution."
Because too much was going on at the time. Dr Jones apparently wants to know what happened to each molecule of the WTC.

Google "WTC BBC" and you can watch the BBC report that Building 7 collapsed 23 minutes before it actually fell. The building can seen behind the reporter as she describes its collapse.
Aaron Brown of CNN did the same thing. Its obvious that they were reading from a prepared script and for some reason delivered it prematurely.
There is no evidence backing up the official story. That's why supporters of the official story have to resort to crude ad hominem attacks on decent men like Stephen Jones.

Why does it NOT surprise me that BYU wants to autrisize those who think outside the LDS/Government Offical thinking and texts. I can remember when BYU did not want certain research groups on their campus nor any affiliation with them, ie: F.A.R.M.S. because it was to scientific in their approach with reseach and not faith based. Fortunately, I don't live in the States and have to put up with all mis-information that the U.S. government spoons out to the masses. Maybe the day the LDS church will stop caving into pressure and stand up and have the guts to go after the truth or let others go after it and do the research and studying that needs to be done. What is there to hide, the truth. And maybe that is the catch after all!! Remember, there were no weapons on mass destruction with Saddam Hussein, yet Bush lied his way to the U.S. population that there were.

I would venture to say that one of the biggest accomplishments of the "truth movement" is the investigation that has ensued. It's kinda funny, we clamor for a new independent investigation, when all along the movement has been doing just that. "Truthers" can stand quite proudly on the movements accomplishment of backing up their platform with facts, science and historical perspective. It is with that knowledge that those who have ventured down this very dark and sad hole cry with frustration for justice. We know that we tempt our own fate when exposing truth to power, this is a chance we must take. This is a patriot's calling. This is a human rights calling.

Suspects: Dov Zakheim; Project for a New American Century; Silverstein; Cheney; Rumsfeld; Northrop Grumman; Bush Family; Kissinger; Ken Lay; CFR; Rockefeller; etc. Why did it take 422 days for an official investigation to start? Why was Kissinger asked to lead the investigation? Why did he step down? Who Benefits? Follow the money and you will find the culprit. This is not a conspiracy theory, it is a criminal investigation. Don't stop until we find the perps. This act of treason and murder will be punished. Live free or die a slave.

This sounds like who should be blamed for Pearl Harbor all over again.

Ekim, Not all of the 9/11 researchers are scientists focused on the collapse. Some of us have done a lot of research to formulate a theory of the crime that fits the evidence - something which the official version does not do. What is needed now is a Grand Jury - and maybe several Grand Juries empaneled so that subpoenas can be issued and a real investigation into the 9/11 can be done. It is imperative for this process to be open to the public. There were government officials involved but whether they knew the real nature of their part in the scheme must be determined. Our government has become so deceptive and secretive that in order to get to the bottom of this, everybody needs to lay out on the table exactly what they were doing and what they were told - both before and after 9/11. The future of this nation depends on finding out who really is behind 9/11. 9/11 is a festering, gangrenous wound that needs to be thoroughly cleaned out in order for us to survive as a nation.

Dr. Jones;
I hope you are still checking this site and these comments. I want to thank you for all your selfless work on this topic. The "Truth" movement as well as the American people owe you a debt of gratitude; You, Richard Gage, Kevin Ryan, and all the others working hard to shed light on the facts of 9/11 have done so at your own risk. You have been attacked, condemned, ridiculed, and lied about, but you have all continued with the important work of conducting this investigation, and I for one thank you for your diligence and your commitment.
I would like to ask you if you have considered the primer cord that had to have connected the cutter charges? This primer cord or detonator cord is itself an explosive used in the demolition industry, and it is what they use to break up the concrete floor systems.
Surely this type of explosive has a unique signature just like the Thermite has, and considering the amount of concrete pulverized, allot of it must have been used.
