Protective Railings | 10:37 a.m. May 5, 2008
I can't imagine those railings protecting anything.

I pulled into that parking garage about 5 minutes after it happened and saw it sitting at the bottom upside down with a firefighter crouched over trying to look inside. From the looks of that vehicle I was sure nobody survived. Thank God hse did.
railing stop cars? | 12:22 p.m. May 5, 2008
You expect them to build a ram-proof railing around the whole parking plaza?
The railings are to help pedestrians, not to stop a car a full speed.

I've never seen anything like that!!!!

That is seriously sad. I've had moments where I space out, and could totally do that.
No excuses, Herm F | 2:50 p.m. May 5, 2008
Once you've passed driving school and recieved a license, there is no excuse for mistaking the gas pedal for the brake pedal. It's unfortunate that she was in such a precarious situation, rather than in the middle of an empty filed where a dumb mix-up won't hurt anything. It's good fortune that no one else was hurt by her negligent driving.

Herm F. maybe there is an excuse. Have you heard of a medical problem that could cause a black out. My husband donated blood and passed out behind the wheel on the way home. So maybe you should wait for the whole story before you pass judgment.
Not a training issue | 4:36 p.m. May 5, 2008
I don't think it's a driver training issue, it's a "Mistake". This happens farely frequently. It's not that the driver didn't know the difference between the gas and the brake. It happens when you get your foot out of position somehow and you are convinced your foot is on the brake, but the harder you push the brake the faster you go.
It takes a second to realise what's going on and sometimes you don't have a second to react.
It almost happend to me when I was going snowmobiling. I was wearing huge boots and 2 pair of socks, so you don't get the normal sensory feedback from your foot. I pulled in my friend's driveway and when I went to move my foot from the gas to the break it got caught and I almost ended up driving into his garage (with the door down). When I finally got my foot free and stomped on the break my fat foot got both the break and the gas... Luckily I stopped but the engine raced at the same time. Guess I was lucky I got more break than gas.
The moral of the story is... Mistakes happen. Hope-everybody's-OK.

Amen Cindy R! | 4:40 p.m. May 5, 2008
Let's refrain from passing judgement and just be glad that she is alive and hope that she will be alright. Everyone makes mistakes and no one here knows what really happened.

Herm F, you sound like one of those people that thinks your real cool by saying stuff like that without knowing the whole story, and instead end up looking like a fool. One more person quick to judge eh.

You people don't know this person. She had some medical problems. And blacked out. It isn't that she knew the brake pedal from the gas pedal. May some of you should hear the whole story before you think of her as a another flakey person. She has a lot of class and is very intellent. I am very upset she is a very loving and fun person. My grandchildren thought of her as another grandma. It was a freak accident and no really fault and was not intentional. She is so lucky to be alive. What if it was somebody in your family. It is not a funny story. The gaurdian angel was on her side.

That does not look like an accident that someone normally would survive. I'd call it a miracle. Thank you, Lord.
Herm, you blew it | 10:35 p.m. May 5, 2008
Herm, When you make a dumb mistake I hope you are not given the benefit of the doubt by someone too. To think you won't have something go wrong at some point after you've been properly trained is to deny the difficulties of life: medical conditions, old age, stress such as job loss or divorce. Medical conditions don't have to be big ones to cause mental confusions, simple and mild cases of diabeties, certainly menopause, chronic pain, dehydration even urinary tract infections. Lighten up Herm.
Herm, I know you | 10:40 p.m. May 5, 2008
You are the guy that is quick to critique everyone elses foibles and mistakes, but just as quick to excuse your own. Something will happen to you buddy, that isn't going to make any logical sense and yet you are going to need our understanding. I hope someone is there to give it to you.
To Cramp | 11:47 p.m. May 5, 2008
I am with you. Some people really needs a reality check and get a life. I guess the anti-depression pills are not working for them because there's no other reason for being so negative and critical.
I am so glad she survived. Yes, someone is watching over her because no way she or anybody would had survived that fall.
I hope she doesn't read these kind of negative comments about an accident and just remember there's a heavenly Father who loves her very much.

I think something like this should be strongly discouraged and made illegal.
Spaced out in SLC | 2:03 a.m. May 6, 2008
SLC... if you have moments that you space out, then you better turn in your driver's license and sell your car.
You are an accident waiting to happen....
Let's hope you don't kill someone in your "spaced out" time.
