This is great news. Good to hear that someone has made a judgement call in favor of protecting the western states from becoming a dumping ground, not only for the rest of the nation, but for the world.

Undoubtably, someone will reply commenting on the loss of earnings potential for the state of Utah. But we have so much more to offer than just using our open spaces as a garbage dump.

We need to get past the perceptions of the cold war regarding anything "nuclear."

The process for dealing with and disposing of Nuclear waste is safe, genetates large revenues, and great paying jobs for educated and skilled labor alike.

Energy Solutions is getting a bad rap for this entire situation. The move by this compact is entirely politically motivated, and will only in the end cost energy solutions more money.

Lack of knowledge and education is indeed bondage, and it appears the majority of the population are inmates.

I don't want anyone's garbage | 9:32 p.m. May 8, 2008
weather it's nuclear or just plain paper garbage, I wouldn't want it. I'm sure energy solutions is making a ton of money off the deal. If they'd like to cut every other resident in the state a check who is taking on a potential health risk, then we might be singing a different tune. I think that we should build our nuclear energy sources and deal with our own waste, not some other countries.

Hey, "I dont want anyone's garbage" a check is cut to you and every other resident in Utah, its just in the form of roads, bridges, schools, and other fine things you take for granted. But hey, enjoy the new 20 cents a gallon tax they are about to impose on you. I guess you do get to write a check just like every other utahan.
