Some parents just love to share the spotlight with their kids. It's called the Earl Woods syndrome.
Re: scary | 12:25 p.m. May 10, 2008
No- Tiger's dad made him what he is-the worlds best golfer. You didn't see Earl trying to caddy, bullying PGA officials or hanging in the locker room. David's dad is his own kind of jerk.

I feel really bad for David's dad.... but apparently he was warned. Rumors about David's dad have been flying for years from what I understand.

Unfortunately, for David's sake - someone had to let David's dad know that this type of involvement is just not acceptable.

I am deeply sorry that David, personally - must deal with this entire situation during such a positive time in his life.

Lets all hope, that David's family can work this thing out and things will get better in the future.

A future, that is looking really great for David Archuleta!

I hope the fathers actions do not hurt Davids chances of winning American Idol . That boy deserves it and I am sure his Father has helped him along the path but just hope the Father will take a back seat and let his son have the spotlight. In the picture that is shown on this age of the Father standing in back of David looks like the Father wants the spotlight too. Wish he would cool it and stand back and let David have the attention without him right there and making himself noxious.

I am an old Grandma and have voted for David all along and I just hope and vote or him to win American Idol. He is the sweetest looking young man and his actions show that he has a tender and kind heart. And he is full of a wonderful talent. I pray he doesn't change and go worldly. Keep your standards David and be a great missionary with your wonderful voice and character.

Jeff Archuleta ought to contact the Osmonds for advice. Their parents, George and Olive, were the ideal stage parents. David Archuleta needs the support of his parents. Fox should not be banning David's parents from any part of his activites. It is hard for anybody to cope with such great fame without being corrupted. Especially, a 17 year-old teen-aged boy. Thank-You

Okay, so this article uses TMZ as a reference---there goes the story's credibility. I'm not saying David's dad isn't a pain backstage or anything, but how do we really know that he was "banned" by Idol? There's a good chance that Idol said nobody other than the shows workers are now allowed at the rehearsals and since David's dad is the only parent there it comes out that he was banned from involvement. It could be true, but I'm just seeing an anonymous source and TMZ as the meat of the story and that doesn't do much.
MoJules | 12:59 p.m. May 10, 2008
Being a pesky mom that I am, I would probably say and do annoying things like Jeff, my daughter was quite reserved and passive, I would try to fight her battles for her, she wouldn't. I am not going to fault Jeff A for this, I fault the person that let this leak, this is really none of our business and what they did was not hurtful to Jeff A, it was hurtful to David A, the person that let this leak should be fired. I wish that people would keep their big mouthes shut and I wish that TMZ would go bankrupt and I wish I wouldn't have been curious and read this.
Don't go there | 1:12 p.m. May 10, 2008
You are kidding, right?
Ask the Osmond's for advice...
Give me a break....

The Osmonds in fornt of the camera and without the camera are two different animals.

Now we must wonder if DA's nicemnes is an act. Or is he 180 degrees from being his father....

Maybe DA will live up to being Donny O. The jerk of a teenager and young adult that he was.

So, American Idol's biggest problem with Jeff was that his insistence on adding extra lyrics cost them more money?? I was surprised when David sang the extra lyrics, thinking they must be a verse that I was unfamiliar with, but the lyrics suited the song very well and gave the song a little something extra that I think worked very well for David, so maybe Jeff wasn't wrong on this one.

Archuletta is not sucha big deal anyway. Who cares about his father? GO DAVID COOK!
Dad will cost him | 1:43 p.m. May 10, 2008
Stage parents can be obnoxious, I hope he doens't cost David the title. Alot of people will be turned off by this and vote for someone else.
Juan Figuroa | 2:05 p.m. May 10, 2008
Go, Dad! Yeah! I say, threaten to yank your kid off the show! He's a minor child, and until he's an adult, ain't nobody gets any say but you and Mom. Stand tall. Tell AI to back off, or you're going to exercise your parental rights.

Unbelievable. That song choice was great, the lyrics were awesome, and Dad -- if he influenced the kid at all -- made a great call!

Who cares what AI's lawyers think? Jeff's the dad, and Jeff's Da Man. Woo-hoo!
To anonymous | 2:22 p.m. May 10, 2008
David cook? I think not...he is not the best. Plain and simple. This is a singing competition and if people voted based on that David A. or Syesha should win. Sorry but David Cook if he does win will only win becase of his popularity.
Cheri | 2:35 p.m. May 10, 2008
Davids dad needs to quit living his life through his son, obviously he is a musician but not a top one and his son is, let the kid shine in his own rights. Stage parents cause great kids who can be a great success to lose becasue no one wants to deal with the parent. Wise up and allow your kid to shine in his own light and stay out of the shadows your only hurting him, yourself and your entire family by your behavior.
Your lucky that FOX has not aired your behavior alot sooner, trust me your going to be one hated father if you ruin things for your son.
Flibbermajibit | 2:48 p.m. May 10, 2008
Why is everyone freaking out about this? I mean really they named a street after him, why? what about all the other contestants, they are cool too! Its like everyone only cares about Archuletta, I mean I like him and all but he doesn't need this much attention!
Wordgemon | 2:53 p.m. May 10, 2008
Yeah David Archuletta rocks! But why did his dad get kicked off what did he do? He shouldn't be kicked off its his father!
Anonymous | 3:15 p.m. May 10, 2008
I'd be very impressed in David if he walks away from AI because of this. That they back doored this information to the media to taint his father is more than enough reason to do so.
me | 3:47 p.m. May 10, 2008
wait wait wait!! Did anyone else think that was really strange of the reporter to write a paragraph about how David Archuleta exclaimed "wow" as we watched the cheerleaders!! ha ha that's funny!
upset | 4:05 p.m. May 10, 2008
Does it really matter? Who cares ! I think we all need to care less about his father loosing his back stage pass , and maybe worry a little more about what is really happening in the world today . There still is a War going on, and didn't a Cyclone just take out part of Thailand . I would think more people in this state would care more about the individuals that have just lost loved ones then ,why his father lost his back stage pass....

Those additional lyrics could have cost Fox as much as $50K if they got clearance for them in time. If they didn't, it's more or less an open wallet for the person who owns the publishing.

That was a really stoopid thing to do! The concept of American Idol is to come up with marketable talent and *make* money. You start out costing them money and you've thrown the baby out with the bathwater.

LOS ANGELES According to American Idol spokesperson Andrea Jamison, the rumor about Jeff Archuleta, Idol contestant David Archuleta’s father, being banned from backstage and rehearsals is false.
“The rumor that surfaced yesterday on an entertainment Web site about Mr. Archuleta are categorically false,” said Ms. Jamison. “As part of normal procedures at American Idol, all family members of contestants and personal coaches are prohibited from participating in rehearsals during the final two weeks of the competition and the finale.”
According to online Web site TMZ, Jeff Archuleta was told this week by producers that he can no longer join his 17-year-old son David as he prepares for the show. The person was allegedly not authorized to comment publicly and spoke on the condition of anonymity.
However, Ms. Jamison stated that this was mischaracterized. “The ‘ban’, if you will, applies to all family members and others not directly affiliated with the show and 19 Entertainment. This did not single out Mr. Archuleta nor do producers have any problems with his conduct whatsoever.”

I was just thinking as I saw the adulation this kid was getting at the Jazz game last night, that it was only a matter of time before the media looked for a way to inject some sort of scandal into this. As Roman conquerors were always reminded - "Sic transit gloria mundi" - "Thus passes the glory of the world." In modern terms, the media giveth and then the media screws you.
L.A. LDS | 4:29 p.m. May 10, 2008
What is "American Idol?" And how is Archuleta an Idol? I thought the American Idol was the falling dollar and Hummers. Silly me. Yet, perhaps we need some perspective on what is really important in today's world for the LDS people and all other Americans. Well, I guess not. Everyone seems to have already started down the path of worshiping clothing, the image, the status of a human being. I am hopeful I won't be alive when it comes time to pay for no longer living in a world where Idols are worshipped.
RE: Upset | 4:40 p.m. May 10, 2008
Serious? It seems like the person that needs to worry a little more about world events is you. Thailand? I think that disaster was 3 years ago. They cyclone occurred in Myanmar. The cyclone was one disaster, the fact that the government won't let international aid in, is another disaster. The predicted death toll is expected to exceed 100,000. But yes, I do agree with you that this is MUCH more important than anything happening in Hollywood.
One better not get in the way | 4:48 p.m. May 10, 2008
One can't get in the way of Big Business. The company sees this as a once in a lifetime opportunity for these people (probably true), and their thinking is play their way or go home! If David were my 17 year old son, I would be more concerned about him being used, sucked out like a grape and tossed! Good luck to David, however, he's dabbling in a dirty and risky business.
Wrong | 5:39 p.m. May 10, 2008
Look guys. The dad AND David were incorrect in adding these lyrics. FOX asked them not to add them. Regardless of whether or not they agreed with FOX, they shouldn't have sang them live, without FOX's approval.

What happened to being responsible and doing the right thing? Regardless of what your opinion is.

David isn't going to win. He has no personality. He's like a robot; fine during the music but after the music shuts off watching him is the most awkward experience I've ever had.
Stage Father? | 5:43 p.m. May 10, 2008
Now that the Andrea Jamison has cleared the air a little, perhaps this comment is redundant. However, with all the criticism of Mr. Archuleta and his supposed trying to live thru his son's career, doesn't anybody think it a bit strange that Billy Ray Cyrus shared in the provocative picture shoot with his daughter Miley? I saw the pictures and thought they were in very poor taste--not my idea of a good father, stage or no. But certainly good promo for Billy Ray.
Re: mojules | 5:44 p.m. May 10, 2008
I agree with MoJules on this one. David Archuleta is a minor of 17 and if he were my son I would be right there as well to make sure he doesn't get jerked around. Also TMZ isn't much a reliable source. Might as well have asked National Enquirer as well. So, I take it as a grain of salt of truth.
Anonymous | 5:55 p.m. May 10, 2008
Like American Idol doesn't make enough money to have a lyrics change. Give me a break. Take David Archuleta out of the contest and let them see how much money they'll make.

If I were David I would be mad.
Grandma | 6:02 p.m. May 10, 2008
I think David Archuleta is a great young man and has worked hard to get where he is. Be kind to his father -- we aren't there and don't know the circumstances. Also, be wary to anything TMZ reports on -- nothing but gossip and sensationalism. Read what the Bible says about gossip.
Anonymous | 6:26 p.m. May 10, 2008
Folks! The show is *American* Idol, not *Utah* Idol...
Camille | 6:43 p.m. May 10, 2008
David Archuleta and family: Welcome to the life of show business. Where nothing is private and the media seems to find out everything or make up a story! They will most likely even find out when you blow your nose. I am still voting for you cause I think you have alot of talent. Just don't let the media get to you or the negative comments of people.
WHO CARES? | 9:13 p.m. May 10, 2008
If you are STILL atching this non-talent tv show, get a life people.
Who cares?!
Maybe David can sing at teh opening of a KFC in Magna someday...what a career!
No American Idol will ever be in the hall of fame, folks.
Its a joke.

>The Osmonds in fornt of the camera and without the camera are two different animals.

I happen to know the Osmonds, and have seen them in a variety of situations (both difficult and easy) without the camera, and I have never seen them be anything but gracious, down to earth, and kind, even taking the bashing they get in extraordinarily good humor.
M . Wie's dad-David's dad-all th | 9:30 p.m. May 10, 2008
Give Jeff his 15 minutes of fame and realize that his son will have 20 years of fame. He is the best singer I have ever seen on IDOL. The father needs to take a chill-pill and let David enjoy his ride. I have been around parents of high school athletes for a long time and he is not one bit different than so many of them. Sometimes I think the parents think that they are the ones everyone is cheering for.
Osmond Bashers | 9:57 p.m. May 10, 2008
From AOL

"This is the 25th anniversary of your charity, Children's Miracle Network, isn't it?
It is, and it's the largest children's charity of its kind. We help 17 million kids every year, and we've raised about $4 billion for children. Those are things, where you can give back, that make you feel good. In 100 years, no one will know who I am, but they're going to know the Children's Miracle Network, hopefully."

$4 billion for charity... that seems like something for the Osmonds to be proud of and for others to admire.

People who aren't famous are weenies and/or have problems too, folks.

The older I get the less jealous I am and the more I admire the Osmonds.
TMZ | 10:48 p.m. May 10, 2008
Has anyone ever watched TMZ? You can't believe anything they say or do! I would believe Chris in LA before them and I don't even know who he is. David is in the finals, so what if he wins or not. His future is lookin pretty good right now. Go David!
Knucklehead | 11:19 p.m. May 10, 2008
This guy sounds like one of those nutjob sports parents. It's nice to see it's not always the athletes with the crazy parents. I hope David wins, gets millions and gets away from this craziness. It's about David, not daddy. As for David not being able to interview with anyone but FOX-TV, it's typical.

Good, and take off the dumb hat!
Not an idol | 12:32 a.m. May 11, 2008
David is a good singer but he is not an Idol. He is too immature and giddy ALL THE TIME. "whaaa, thank you...uhhh, i didn't know what to sing....uhhh yeah."
The way he dresses is typical of a 15 year old. Compare his dress to the other contestants...
T-shirt and jeans? Come on. Archuleta sounds the same week after week, he's been singing ballads since the show began. Give Archuleta more time to grow up and look like a man instead of a boy. Right now he's just an idol to the TEENAGE GIRLS. yeck...

Judge not lest ye be judged! As a parent we all do the best we can for our children, feel grateful your not under public scrutiny.
Sherr | 3:09 a.m. May 11, 2008
Wow!!! Hey folks, I'm just enjoying the show, David seems like one good kid!! I'd love to see a down to earth young man win this competition. In my opinion he has a timeless, clasic voice that will carry through the ages. Didn't anyones mother ever say....if you can't say something nice, don't say it at all? Wouldn't the world be a better place if we were all a little kinder!
clueless | 6:58 a.m. May 11, 2008
Sounds like a lot of people have known about David's father. This is the first time I have ever heard of his father's meddling. All I have seen each week is his father in the audience supporting his son. Where have I been? I've been clueless I guess.
Steve | 8:45 a.m. May 11, 2008
I am disappointed by people following a story that was first reported by some pathetic gossip site. I hope that AI can shed some light on it and hope that we can all enjoy the talent that is brought to us week after week. This is sad, but you know what, people are getting to see for themselves what a wonderful singer and person he is. I will vote even more for David Archuleta.
Matt | 9:05 a.m. May 11, 2008
Although I do like David Cooks voice almost as well as David A, I think he is the most arrogant person I've ever seen on the show. He drives me nuts!
Anonymous | 9:08 a.m. May 11, 2008
Whatever happens will happen Win or loose he tried his hardest, with a scene like this who knows what will happen at this point, But at least he can say he tried to support his home town of Murray & also Murray HS,

If the comments made by Chris | 4:23 p.m. May 10, 2008 are correct, then why this really isn't a legitimate story and should not have been run by the Deseret News.
