Good Lord! Leave the rug rats at home! Period! That is the primary reason we don't go to movies. Kids don't belong in theaters. Period.

These sound like good ideas. I stopped going to movies 20 years ago, when I moved to Utah and it was made clear that Utah Mothers have the inflated idea that everyone loves babies and children. I don't. I am a firm beliver that in adult situations children should be seen and not heard.
As this mother is seeking an appropriate way to take 2 year olds to the movies, my hat is off to her.
Theatre managers, how about providing a couple of show times a week that are sans children?

I always thought the drive in was the place to take all the kids. Back of a truck or minivan with lots of blankets and whatever snacks the parents think are appropriate. That way you tend not to bother others nearly as much.

Great suggestion. Following the movie, the parents can stay and clean the mess. Then have designated adult-only movies for the rest of us.

Here's and idea. How about a minimum age requirement for movie attendance. There is nothing more rude and obnoxious than noise from the crowd during a movie drama. What's wrong with you. This isn't sacrament meetings. This is entertainment for civil adults. We don't want to hear your bawling kids. We don't want to hear conversation. We don't want to hear cell phones ringing. We want to experience the movie. Grow up and be civil. There is one word for the movie theater. QUIET

That is the worst idea I have ever heard of. I worked at 3 of the most popular Utah County theaters from the mid 80's until the mid 1990's and all I can say is KEEP YOUR KIDS AT HOME!!!! Movies are released on DVD very quickly now so parents with babies, go rent the film at Blockbuster and let theater patrons enjoy movies in theaters without your kids crying, gaging, smelly diapers and noise.

I rarely go to movies anymore. It's a choice I made when I had kids. I love the big screen, but when my kids were newborns, that was hardly the place I could take them. And on the rare day that my wife and I could grab a movie, we knew we should leave the kids home. Unfortunately, not all parents thought that way, and they were/are disruptive. I made a choice to have kids, and the theater, arena, stadium, and a few other places are not the place for infants. My kids are getting older now and can sit still long enough, but let's be honest: most movies are not intended for pre-teens. I choose not to expose them to too much of the adult world just yet. That time is coming, but I can do my best to manage the flow of adult language and content until they are better prepared to distinguish between reality and Hollywood. Bottom line: kids and movie theaters are mostly incompatible. Some exceptions, but live your life by the general rules, not by the exceptions.

Keep the kids at home. Get a baby sitter. Enjoy a romantic movie out. Don't worry about the kids: they will love the pizza you left for the babysitter.
As to going to the drive in with the kids... yee gads... they might look over at the car next to you and figure out where they came from.

I'm always surprised at the bitter feelings some people have. Give a parent a break. Sometimes you can't find a babysitter. Going to the theater is a real treat for kids. Maybe the movie is for KIDS!
I used to take my kids to a theater that had a sound proof room with floor to ceiling windows and surround sound in the back of the theater. Everybody loved it. The parents had some peace of mind that they weren't disturbing the other patrons. The snobs couldn't hear the babies.
I think financially that it would pay for itself in added revenue from little kid butts filling every seat.

The tools that sit and text and (believe it or not) talk on their phone during a movie are way more annoying than any kid has ever been in a theatre. The next idiot's phone that goes off in the middle of a movie, I swear that I am going to loose it and throw that thing as hard as I can against the floor and stomp on it.
Quit your whining when I take my kids to "Horton Hears a Who", seriously. It's not like it is an Oscar Contender. So excercise the last brain cell in your head and go see something else Saturday afternoon or better yet, get a life.
