I believe the credit bureau numbers. The self-reported statistics aren't worth much. Talking about money is the last taboo in our society. People will talk about how they are trying to adopt a ferrett with their longtime live-in partner who is a babboon, but watch them clam up when you ask them about personal financial matters.
