didn't lone peak win state in 05? check your stats
4A not 5A | 10:45 a.m. May 13, 2008
Lone Peak won the 4A championship. It wasn't competing at this level
observer | 11:00 a.m. May 13, 2008
Their facts are fine. They said Regions 1 @ 2 have dominated 5A which they have. Lone Peak did win in 05 but it was 4A.

I find it a little interesting that this writer decided to use the word earth-shaking right after China has a mammoth earthquake killing thousands of people. You might want to check out the news and then be a little more sensitive to actual earthquakes

I think the Region 4 teams deserve a little bit more respect, and you're putting too much stock in "long" and "proud" playoff history. Layton has done nothing in the playoffs for the last four years, and Weber's state championship was way too long ago to think it means anything to this year's team.
The games are going to be decided by this year's players. Not 3+ year old "playoff history". This are teenagers we're talking about!
But, I guess it's no surprise that nobody respects Lehi since they're a first-year 5A school. I think they're going to prove some naysayers wrong, just like they did in the region this year.

First the Jake needs to be a little more resilent because the article was written late last night at the latest probably last friday. Do we stop using the term black because some people find it offensive in another context? Check your PC at the door (or is that offensive to the Mac users)
On the regions I think it will be interesting to see what happens. As a coach I have seen some interesting things happen with home town referees around the state.
I picked it to be a final with a region 1 and Region 2. Mark my prediction I am hoping to get a t-shirt out of it.

ok just a few things.
As people have said, yes Lone peak did win state in '05 but in 4A.
Region 4 deserves no respect until they earn it. You believe they will prove "naysayers" wrong in play offs? Lehi stands no chance against alta in the quarter finals. If they win their first game that is...
Just a thought

GO DARTS!!!

Classifications | 3:01 p.m. May 13, 2008
I wouldn't doubt the level of 4A and 5A...the top teams in each classification are pretty close. Soccer has that difference to football and basketball. Look at Mountain View...they were in regon 4 and went all the way to the 5A championship last year and are now in 4A. 5A and 4A are closer than you think..
nostradomis | 7:08 p.m. May 13, 2008
Not a single utah county team prevailed on day one. Regions one and two are tough. Although Bingham did give brighton a run for their money. Prediction for tomorrow, not a single utah county team will win a game. Mt View is the only team w a chance, but they are playing a fired up WX team. It will be an all region 5 final....WX and Bountiful, anybodys game when it's being played on WX's field. Bountiful has beat them twice this year, it will be tough to do it 3X in a row, but they will. And Viewmont will win 5A!
lp amen | 8:13 p.m. May 13, 2008
where's the lp amen guy now.....not a single utah county team won a game today. I guess it is amen to soccer down south. It will be a repeat tomorrow in 4A!
the new nostradamus | 9:09 p.m. May 13, 2008
Let's give props to Dan Rasmussen...he called the region one and two sweep! Well done Dan. The old nostradomis needs to get a new name. You are the one and only nostradamus!
lhs player | 10:00 p.m. May 13, 2008
congratulations to layton, they are a good team and they played well today. good luck to them for the rest of the tournament
uv soccer | 10:06 p.m. May 13, 2008
yes, the uv teams are out, but three of the games went into overtime and were very close. it might not be there yet, but utah valley schools are catching up. watch out for lehi's team next season; they're a very young team.
@ uv soccer | 7:49 a.m. May 14, 2008
"but three..." if if and buts were...you get the picture...any way you cut it, it's zero wins...not a good showing at all...were is lone peak fan?... amen to uv soccer lol!!!!
oops | 8:16 a.m. May 14, 2008
You have to look at the history. History tells a great story of tradition. Look at Davis and Layton for example. These are teams that are always in the playoffs. They are headed up by very talented coaches who have a great understanding about the game and the pressures of playoffs. Layton also has been in the playoffs in the last four years. So just give some respect.
futbolfan | 8:52 a.m. May 14, 2008
Interesting that Davis and Weber end up in a quarter final match - what luck not to run into a Region 2 foe until the semis. Viewmont versus Jordan is the real deal since both of them could beat every other school in the State. Nice call Rasmussen!
LP Fan | 10:41 a.m. May 14, 2008
We were robbed by the ref's on some really bad calls yesteday. We still are the best soccer team in the state!!! Go Knights!!! Amen.
Wow Region 1 | 10:53 a.m. May 14, 2008
You dudes are tough. A nice clean sweep. I bet Northridge, Clearfield, and even Syracuse could have hung with most of the Region 4 Schools.
Re: lp fan | 1:38 p.m. May 14, 2008
nobody likes a bad loser, or someone who is blind to reality. lp is a poor team on a good day, and they must of had an extremly good day to even hold region 1's 3rd place team to only one point. "best team in west orem maybe, or where every lp HS is" you are simply delusional, and blamming the officials for a loss is another example of a bad loser. A gracious loser no matter the circumstances is a pleasant thing to behold and shows great character. lp fan has a few life leasons to learn....
nostradomis | 1:45 p.m. May 14, 2008
let's call dan "nostradomus", I'm in agreement. This nostradomis predicted Utah county would get blitzed but I didn't see the region 5 knock out.My problem is why are Viewmont and Jordan meeting so early in the tourney, seems to me this should be a semifinal game matchup. I doubt Jordan will make it to the finals no matter the bracketing, but it dosen't seem right they should get knocked out by Viewmont in inter-regionals....
Re: uv soccer fan | 1:50 p.m. May 14, 2008
who cares about lone peak or what they did 5 years ago. We have an incredibly exciting bunch of soccer ahead of us in the next week or so. Let's chat about that no some delusional lp fan.
Davis | 1:55 p.m. May 14, 2008
Davis county soccer rules......it will be an all region one final, Viewmont/Fremont(weber county) in a close game....
re futbol fan | 3:08 p.m. May 14, 2008
Alta will destroy jordan or viewmont any day! Just you wait.
re Davis | 3:12 p.m. May 14, 2008
I believe three of the final four teams will be alta, jordan, and brighton. And for the first time in four years alta and davis will not have to play an incredibly intense playoff game! phew thats a relief
region 2 | 3:17 p.m. May 14, 2008
is a step up from the rest of the state! As proven in recent years. 2005 Jordan takes state, 2006 Alta takes state(against brighton), 2007 jordan takes state! all region 2 teams from sandy. And hey what do ya know the top three teams in the state right now are... Jordan, Brighton, and Alta! (Sandy City)
prediction | 7:54 a.m. May 15, 2008
viewmont vs. brighton in the finals. Colton Cook takes it home
Strong Regions | 10:24 a.m. May 15, 2008
Region 1, and 2 are very strong. But...I would not say that either are better. Look at Weber and Fremont, who have not been around as long as Viewmont, Layton, Davis...and are now producing great teams. So I would say that the 2 regions are evenly matched. However, I would not want to face Viewmont this year, they have 2 horses up front that can't be contained. Good luck all, should be some exciting soccer tomorrow and next week.
nostradomis | 10:54 a.m. May 15, 2008
Viewmont absolutely has the most difficult road to the finals, Jordan, then I think Alta if they can get by a very hot Layton team. Regardless it will be an all region 1 final, either Viewmont and Davis or Fremont....go Vikes.
region 4 fan | 1:45 p.m. May 15, 2008
nice job to region 1 and 2 you guys have some amazing teams good luck at state. but pretty soon region 4 will be up there with you two.
UK Soccer | 9:19 p.m. May 15, 2008
I would say that Weber and Davis are the outside threats but I have a feeling they will beat each other up in the qtrs. They split the regular season matchup with each team winning on the others field. Inside scoop, Weber is losing their best midfielder to a family wedding and will miss the Davis game- Ouch! But I agree with the Strong Regions comments- Viewmont has not one but 2 beasts up front they will be tough for anyone to beat! Best of luck to all!

Player of the year . . . Jake Poosted. 2007 MVP WHAT!! Someone should tell him to stop flopping.
PLAYER OF THE YEAR!!! | 9:53 p.m. May 16, 2008
Leading a team to two state championships in three years is a pretty good compliment. Also, leading a team ranked in the top of the state is another good reason. Besides him being an incredible player those are both good reasons to name him the MVP. It's a good thing educated people make these decisions instead of people who haven't been able to stop him.

The Davis vs Weber game could of gone either way, double OT shootout-wow what a great game. Weber wanted the game more than Davis. The Davis goalie JT Webster had an out standing game. The center ref was at it's all time worst I have ever seen in HS soccer. His calls were bad both ways, but the hands ball that he called in the box cost Davis the game. It was a well played game by Weber I have to say. Region one soccer has been very good this year. It looks like every team in region one had very good quarter finals that could of gone either way. It's too bad the refereeing is so bad the farther north you go.
Last year there was no comparison who was the better team Davis vs Mountain View for the semis. Davis out played them the whole game until the dumb shootout and Davis couldn't find the net. It should of been Davis vs Jordan for the finals last year.
Good Luck to Viewmont for the final game!!!

Viewmont vs Jordan game. Great game, I thought Viewmont looked better throughout the entire match. A bit shaky the last 5 minutes as they bunkered waiting for the final whistle. I was NOT impressed with MVP Jake H. He seemed to just dance around to ball, I don't think he had any shots on frame, and then he would yell at his team? Hmm, not my kind of player. Viewmonts midfield, led by Colton? was very solid. Viewmont should have no trouble with Alta.
Re: player of the year | 4:32 p.m. May 19, 2008
I've never seen a player yell at his team-mates like your player of the year did in the Viewmont game, blame, find fault, blame,I thought it was disrespectful to the other beetdiggers. I'll take a Colton Cook, a Judd Wray, Michael Knight, or a Tommy Barrett anyday. Solid team players encouraging each other no matter what, good play, bad play they still pat each other on the back, shake it off, do better next time, that kind stuff. I must not understand the MVP concept very well, because that didn't seem like mvp behavior to me.
