I was at this game and both pitchers threw a GREAT game it was too bad that somebody had to lose on the BUMP yesterday. I am not quite sure about the HITS but CV and Judge had more errors than where recorded by both sides, CV just didn't give their pitcher the run support he needed to win. If I remember right there was a comment made about this game earlier in the week that stated CV would need at least 3-4 runs with Deidrich on the mound, which would have won them the game had they been able to do just that. It was a 1-1 game till close to the end. Well it looks like it is a CATHOLIC match up today for the right to play in the 3A title game .... Who's prayers will be answered on the field today? I guess the D-News had their 3A rankings right all year with Judge & Juan Diego 1,2. It seems that this is what everyone has been waiting for! I am not a praying man but I hope the almighty Judge gets knocked off their pedestal today. GO JD!

what a great game
Down South | 9:37 a.m. May 16, 2008
I made the comment that if CV could give Dedrick 3-4 runs they would win. This was also the toughest game Judge has had all season. It was all they could do to beat CV yesterday. Mike is an incredible pitcher even though his win loss record doesn't show it. He has a very suucessful future ahead of him after high school ball.

judge wont lose today. the hitters will crush juan diegos pitching
Dedrick - one heck of a pitche | 11:07 a.m. May 16, 2008
Watched the game, Dedrick is the best thrower I have seen all year. Judge won the game, Dedrick won the pitchers duel. Judge has a much better team then Canyon View, in the top ten across the state, Canyon View needed the rest of the team to step it up.
Wrong | 11:40 a.m. May 16, 2008
How did Dedrick did win the pitching duel?
Walker had 12 K, one walk and 2 hits, PLUS the win.
Derick had 15 K, had more walks than Walker and 7 HITS, Plus the Loss.
I'd say Walker won the duel but both are incredible pitchers.

To re. 3a fan .... This has been the problem with Judge ALL year ... Judge is a great team do not get me wrong .... but NO ONE likes you because you are SOOOOO full of yourselves (fill in another word) .... I hope you are not over looking a great JD team .... Actually I hope you team feels like you and ends up in the loss column ... Judge should of had their catcher tossed from the game if not by the umpires then by your coach .... your shortstop threw a fight cause he missed a ball ... what a bunch of babies ... it must come down from the coaching or even the fans that think you are unbeatable .... even the BEST lose games ... maybe it is Judges turn? Let's see how many fans are cheering for JD today verses the ALL MIGHTY JUDGE! Good Luck to both teams today, as far as this fan ... who lost State the last two years in a row?
re: wrong | 12:37 p.m. May 16, 2008
Derrick pitched against a much better group of hitters then did Walker - the quailty of batters is the difference - Derrick struck out 15 top notch batters in 7 innings - Walker struck out 12 good hitters. Like someone said up above, there were more errors then reported, to go along with that an untimely error here and there made the difference in the score. Like you said "both are incredible pitchers."

I hope Judge wins! I love hockey too! Oh and I think that if Juan Diego plays well they will still get destroyed!!!!!

The Judge baseball team is not full of themselves. The Judge players are not the ones on here making comments about how great they are. They are taking each game, one game at a time, and have NEVER overlooked anybody. They will not be overlooking JD today. The Judge players are very hard on themselves and expect a lot from each other. The short stop was upset at himself because he didn't get the stop, he wasn't being a baby. And the catcher took a hard elbow/shove to the chest from the nice Snow Canyon player that had just struck out, and heard all kinds of trash talking from the other SC players. It doesn't matter how many fans are going to be cheering for either team. All that matters is how it goes on the field.

This is 3a baseball. I've never seen so many people get so excited about a lower level of baseball. 5a in this state is like 3a in the south. They play ball 365 days a year there. Most teams have 2 or 3 'Dedricks'. The game was not about Judge being full of themselves or Dedrick not getting support. The game could have gone either way...as in most low-scoring, pitchers' duels. Both teams played hard and players from both sides were upset when things didn't go right. Everyone that posts seems to think that their kid or team is the best. I'm a Judge parent. I've watched most of the games this year. The team is good but some of the competition is lousy, especially the pitching. If we consistently faced good pitching like we did yesterday, our record would not be as good. In my opinion, state tournaments in Utah are overrated. There is simply not enough teams. Most good high schools in the south can't 'sniff' a state tournament. First you have to qualify, then win the region, sub-district, district, then go to state. Stop the trash talk and let's just play ball and have fun.
dedrick support | 2:40 p.m. May 16, 2008
I remember the CV coach trying to steal down 3-1 with the tying run at the plate. The Judge catcher threw him out. What was he thinking? Dedrick needs to move or change schools. Go to Vegas and play for one of those large schools that '3a' mentions. I'm glad there were scouts there watching him. He might be one of the few Utah HS players to go pro. Our problem in Utah is population density...we just don't have enough high schools/players to make this tournament or league competitive.

Reg 3a fan.
Why would you throwout the Judge's catcher? It was the batter from SC that threw the elbow. The catcher
was bringing to the attention of the umpire as this
game is about SPORTSMANSHIP? So who shoud of been
thrown out?

What are you talking about? Seem that Juan Diego is more full them self the Judge, from what I have read on here. And If you think someone should be thrown out for getting mad at himself for striking out than they would of thrown out Dedrick for doing the exact same thing. I think Judge's catcher had a great game and keep his cool even after one of their play throw an elbow at him after he striked out. Good to both teams today!
Great Game | 3:13 p.m. May 16, 2008
It was a very good game - Dedrick pitched a great game and yes against a strong hitting team, great slider he also pitched 129 some pitches to Walker's 90 around. Come on why does a great game always have to be negative can't we all just enjoy the competition and give kudos to all. Judge is a good group of young men, quit the slam on the coaches the program has turned around. Alot of kids in all areas in the heat of competition somtimes do not act like they normally do or get down on themselves this is High School I have seen Pros do the same thing. Way to battle both teams good luck to both of you. Some of the young men on both teams have great futures ! Thanks for the entertainment ! 3A is NOT a lower level of baseball - Dedrick is going almost full ride to USD for baseball, Walker is being looked at for football and baseball, Pond U of U baseball scholership, Carman looked at both, Thorne Suwanee baseball, Moll Redlands both sports. Yea you are right lower level, nice one.

Wow. What a surprise that the two private schools that can legitimately recruit their athletes are at the top. Always a problem in the 3A bracket. Way to go Canyon View. Great season.

Hey Juan Diego 10 and out - how do you like us now?
To: 3A Fan | 10:19 p.m. May 16, 2008
Looks like the Almighty Judge did pretty well today. Hmmmm, imagine that.
re: tired of Judge Memorial | 12:07 a.m. May 17, 2008
If you are tired of Judge why are you reading this article and comments about them?
JD, what was that tonight? 10-0. Come on, put it together tomorrow and get into the Finals. You've got a tough challenge with BR. Keep in mind the winner of the last two (maybe three) years came through the consolation bracket in 3A.
This year will be tough to beat Judge twice with their pitching and hitting but anything cane happen.
I'm excited to see some good baseball tomorrow. Good luck and enjoy the moments, especially seniors.

First there is no problem with Judge; there is nothing wrong with having confidence in yourself and your team mates. That does not mean that they haven’t taken one game at a time very seriously, yet still keeping their eye on the prize. Saying they deserve to loose is ridiculous, you have no idea how hard these young men have worked, nor how humble they are. This is perhaps why our shortstop (who did not throw a fit), was frustrated by his mistake, and our catcher was frustrated by a cheap shot. Holding yourself to a higher standard does not make you a baby. The comments posted here are not by this team or coaching staff, they have some enthusiastic friends and fans that are a little prideful. I hope you were at the game today so you saw how many fans were cheering for Judge, and I hope you come tomorrow so you can see a repeat of the numbers. We may have lost State the last two years, but at least we were there baby. GO JUDGE, it’s been a great ride.

Mr. 'tired of judge memorial', Are you hanging around for the championship games today or did you go home with your team/players? See ya next year.
tired of Judge Memorial | 8:21 a.m. May 17, 2008
didn't get recruited by Judge. Just couldn't get any public schools or coaches to talk to us. From what I've seen, this place doesn't care for 'outsiders'. However, Judge has been very receptive and a great investment. I doubt the public schools have gotten the college merit money JD and Judge received this year. The school and people are simply awesome both for supporting academics and athletics. I'm glad we found a home in Judge. I'm sure JD would have been just as good. I hope JD makes it to the finals as well. For me as an outsider, I don't really understand the rivalry between those two schools. Both need to realize, because of the environment here, that they are in this together. In any case, both schools and teams deserve better than jealous comments from parents at public schools who are not so receptive to outsiders. Bottom line...they don't recruit...they accept and embrace all kinds of students. We've truly been Blessed to be at Judge. Thanks again to all the faculty, parents, students, teammates, friends, and coaches at Judge. Enjoy your ride back to CV, wherever that is.

Re: Tired of Judge Memorial
I knew that the often repeated accusations of recruiting would come up - I've heard it since my playing days of the 60's and the 70's(when we were playing the now 4A, 5A schools like davis, payson, tooele). Canyon View played in tough region, had a great year - why sour their season with recruiting talk. I'm sure we'll hear more after tomorrow.

judge is just lucky they moved dixie, snow canyon, and pine view up to 4A or they definetly would not be taking state
To: JUDGE | 10:04 a.m. May 20, 2008
Dixie, Snow Canyon and Pine View were moved to 4A because their enrollment is the size of 4A schools. If they weren't moved up to 4A, and won the 3A championship with 4A numbers, that would be cheating. Think about what you just typed.
