great meet | 8:17 a.m. May 18, 2008
Garrett broke the 2A record in march with -2.2 and a 21.68. Then 21.59 in april, but it was wind aided at SUU. In prelims at state he broke the all time state record 22.43, but the wind was 2.3 so it did not count. After already competing in 3 other events and knowing he would be well ahead of the pack he hoped he could do it again. He got the 21.59 with a legal wind.

Good job Marcus Payne, state champ once again. I want to see a match race with your brother Mikey.

? | 3:50 p.m. May 18, 2008
these guys are not the only ones doing good in state. they should talk about peole from each classification.

Instead of saying Steve Clark came back from a disappointing 2nd place in the 1600m to take the 3200m. This should read, after Trevor Sharp out ran Steve Clark in a thrilling 1600 battle, and had a disappointing race in the 3200m, he pulled it together again to take another come from behind victory over Steve Clark in the 800m. Trever won two of those three races and should get some credit for it.

Is the wording really that important? No matter what John wrote, one kid (possibly yours) took two state titles and the other had one. I'm not sure why the phrasing is so critical.
RE: JTM | 5:19 p.m. May 18, 2008
tyler goodwin is state champ in the 100 again beating marcus and mikey last year.
track fan | 6:25 p.m. May 18, 2008
Trevor Sharp DID NOT out run Steve Clark in the 1600. Steve has been dealing with some health issues for some time, and it caught up with him at the state meet. Steve was unlucky to not make it one more step, and Trevor was lucky Steve fell. So stop whining.
Gordon Fan | 6:34 p.m. May 18, 2008
Congratulations to Gordon Garrett(I mean Josh, haha) for such an outstanding meet. He is truly a great athlete. Gordon is also a really nice guy. Great job and good luck in the future!

Hey bitter "track fan", I believe that Trevor Sharp DID out run Steve Clark in the 1600, check the results. Stop taking away a great performance from a kid that worked his butt off for 4 years to accomplish what he did.

People love to talk about Clark because he has all this talent. I like to hear about Sharp because he has a little bit of talent and enough guts to go out and beat someone who's faster than he is. That's what track's all about. I believe Pre said that most people run to see who's fastest, but (he) runs to see who's got the most guts.
LADY VOLS | 11:44 a.m. May 19, 2008
Where are the state girls results? What about when you locate high school sports on the D-News web site. There is not even a subtopic for track! Poor coverage here for the hard working ladies of Utah Track!!
RE: Lady Vols | 1:23 p.m. May 19, 2008
Didn't you notice the link to the girls track article below the link to this one? Below that is a link to the results for boys and girls track 5A through 1A. Pay attention before you start to criticize. In my opinion, the D-News has done much better with this sport than the other papers in the state - The Trib and the Herald are the two biggest offenders that come to mind.
track fan | 1:43 p.m. May 19, 2008
What a great state track meet. So many great performances in all classifications. Thanks for the coverage, and not just limiting the coverage to 5A, unlike the coverage for the girls.
Panguitch coach | 1:52 p.m. May 19, 2008
Just wanted to say great job to Rich. Your team really came through and showed a lot of class. I am very impressed with the track coaches at Rich they are very classy individuals. Thanks for the great meet they don't get any closer.
and where was San juan | 1:56 p.m. May 19, 2008
talk , talk where's the walk? From a garret fan, Man!!!
Wha? | 3:18 p.m. May 19, 2008
RE: Lady Vols: The rival paper did have five articles about the track meet to the D-News' 2.
Sportsmanship? | 3:38 p.m. May 19, 2008
I was very disappointed in some of the coaches and representatives from Panguitch High School. I overheard a group of them making racial comments as a Native American athlete was throwing the javelin during the 1A competition. Can't we leave race out of high school athletics?
tracknfield | 4:25 p.m. May 19, 2008
Daw is a senior, almost all of those grades (Sr. Jr. So. Fr.) on the results are wrong. Clark was sick but gibe Sharp credit, it was a battle.
Luckee | 9:24 p.m. May 19, 2008
Trust me Daw is a Jr!! he will be back next year to run 21.20 and 46.80.
LADY VOLS | 10:31 p.m. May 19, 2008
Thanks for the tip boys...still pretty soft coverage. Wha? is on the money by stating there was better coverage in rival papers. I suppose I should look deeper next time but would prefer the information be easier to navigate. In other words add a drop down that says girls track. XXOO
tstu | 12:28 p.m. May 20, 2008
Daw is a jr.
RE:LADY VOLS 1:23 MAY 19 | 12:56 p.m. May 20, 2008
If the coverage is so great where are the results for the 5A girls long jump?

Rich Rebel Fan | 8:54 a.m. May 21, 2008
Great job Rebels! Hold your heads up high! It was a great meet! Lets start working hard for next year--that first place trophy is ours!!!!!
Garrett Fan | 12:13 p.m. May 21, 2008
Congradulations Gordon. You are a great athlete and have ran some fast times this year. That 21.42 200m at state prelims was unbelievabe to watch. Too bad the wind was too much. It would be fun to watch you race against the 5a, 4a and 3a boys. Good luck next year playing football at SUU.
