Thanks for your update on Daniel Summerhays. I had lost track of him this Spring, and am pleased to see that he has gotten back on track.
Always enjoy reading your column, Mike.

Best case, luck out scenario - Fesenko grows into a Bynum-like force (defensively active, offensively nicely rounded surprise) and takes pressure off of Boozer.
Booze needs to study the film and compare his regular season against his playoffs. Why does he go from a two-handed whirling dervish and studly jump shooter over taller guys, to a "gee, I hope I can figure out what to do now that I have the ball" creampuff in the playoffs. AND, he needs to see that matador defensive 'flash' against the pick and roll enough times to make him sick. Come on Booze - take a lesson from D-Will and push yourself to the next level.

This team looks much like the teams of the late 1990's - close but no cigar, no true center and no answer for the opposition's big, strong athletic SG/SF and an offense that bunches everyone in the key making crisp passing and shooting difficult. No one should be exempt from careful evaluation from the coach to the last man on the bench. Otherwise next year will likely be more of the same - pretty good but not good enough.

Wake up! Boozer is an all-star and one of the primary reasons the Deron Williams says he wants to stay in Utah. "Tough primary post players" are not a dime a dozen in the NBA or the world. The Jazz are fortunate enough to have one in Boozer. Any team in the NBA would love to have Boozer. The man is an Ox...
Dumb, Dumb, Dumb | 11:12 a.m. May 19, 2008
Yeah, Boozer is sooooo soft. His huge number of double doubles in the regular season have demonstrated that much to me. Honestly, the Jazz would have been nothing this year without Boozer and Williams. Any suggestion otherwise is idiotic.
If you want to unload some crap, try something from the 15-million-a-year-can't-drive-the-lane-to-save-my-life variety. And, stop picking on Boozer.

The Lakers played a tough inside the paint defence against the Jazz causing Boozer to have some tough shots. To bad the Jazz couldn`t have played a little better defence inside, it seemed like the Lakers were getting everything right to the basket.

As we know Boozer was not quite himself during the playoffs. Without him, there would have been no playoffs. Last year in the playoffs he was solid, thus this is no trend. Anyone who has played the game realizes one can be off for no particular reason. Boozer is pleasant surprise, after his first two years here. As indicated power forwards who average double doubles are not a dime a dozen. After Williams he is our next MVP on the team. I agree with Mike's comments about the crowd. Overall it is a great crowd and I give them props for as many victories the jazz has had this season.

The object of playing in the NBA is to win championships. Not win 50+ games in the regular season and be an All-Star.
I will agree that without Boozer in the regular season we wouldn't have won as many games, maybe even not made the playoffs.
However, right now the Jazz are in the same position as Minnesota and Seattle. FISHING.
Double Doubles are the most over rated statistic in the NBA. Any all-star/post player that plays 38+ minutes a night should be able to get 10 pts and 10 rebounds. Just because Bolerjack and Boone fall all over themselves telling us how good double doubles are doesn't make it an extra ordinary accomplishment.
Last statement, the Jazz were down 10 points when Boozer fouled out in game 6. Exit Boozer Jazz come back, coincidence??

Keep Boozer...... | 2:50 p.m. May 19, 2008
Get rid of Collins, Hart and Harpring. After that, draft an athletic/long SF to back-up AK and draft a defensive minded Center to back up Okur.
Boozer's injury? | 3:04 p.m. May 19, 2008
People have been suspecting something's up, but instead of proposing unrealistic trades or coaching changes, I wish the journalists would find out what happened to Carlos on or about the end of March. His late season and playoff numbers changed fairly drastically at that point, and he went from a 20/10 guy to a 12-13/10 guy. I'd sure love to know why before I stick my foot in my mouth and push for a trade.
double doubles | 3:28 p.m. May 19, 2008
I once averaged a double double in church ball league. I was quite impressive. The stake president said I was amazing. Boozer is awesome just like I was. If any of you think you can average a double double in the NBA or Church Ball just go ahead and try it. It's not that easy.

I agree Collins,Hart should just go, Harpering if you can get something worthwhile out of him, maybe a chance to get lower in the draft. But I guarantee you you won't find anyone as good as Miles,Almond or Korver, all of whom can play 2 or 3 spot with the 23rd pick in the draft.
Bring Fesenko up and let him make a few rookie mistakes and he will develop into the big inside presence we need to back up Okur.
Under no circumstances let CJ slip away.
Talk about getting rid of Boozer is just stupidity. Double doubles are not over-rated at all Boozer is an All Star period.

LAST YEAR | 3:55 p.m. May 19, 2008
last year everyone wanted to get rid of Memo and or A.K. This year it's BOOZE and maybe AK?? Booze played much better last year in the playoffs except for his D of course. So I am willing to give him a pass on this year's playoffs. Memo made adjustments to his game by improving his driving and mid-range game. Maybe Carlos will do the same and come back better next year. D-Will is already calling those guys out for allowing layups!!
I personally believe that it comes down to coaching! I'm not sure you can have both Memo and Booze on the floor at the same time. So you either need to play Milsap defense/rebounding in combination with them and maybe Fess (to provide size)I don't see it working with the two of them on the floor together. Maybe Booze at center and A.K. a power forward is another option. I thought Jerry was pretty bland with his ability to try and exploit machups. Jerry could have used Harpring and A.K. together and made Kobe guard one of those guys in the post. But Jerry likes to make it easy on the STARS!!

It's silly to keep CJ. Boozer, D-will, brewer and memo are the only ones that aren't expendable. I would keep harpring, and get rid of hart, miles, and collins

If it is so easy to average a double-double, why are there only a handful of guys that do it? Boozer is a young stud who might make the Olympic Team. Like it was said earlier, Boozer had a great playoffs a year ago. He happened to pick a bad time to slump this year, but he is hardly the problem. When your highest paid player is your 4th or 5th option, there is your problem.
I agree with Shybo | 5:20 p.m. May 19, 2008
I agree 100% with Shybo. Do NOT let Miles go. He has too much upside. We will be regretting that decision for a while if that happens. Just don't draft any more SGs and get an athletic/long SF, like Donte Green, Anthony Randolph or Taj Gibson.

Everyone knows for the jazz to win championship
boozer must go,
brewer must go, or be relagated to bench in favor of shooting guard who can....
surprise surprise shoot.
NO team has ever won a championship that didn't have one two these with starter being a true star.
If the jazz maintain the course one can only expect to happen what has happened for twenty five years, and that is a winning season and loosing in the playoffs.
If you want a different out come you have to do something different.
But more importantly, you have to have the RIGHT players.
Deron is the only RIGHT player they have.
they have okay supporting pieces like okur,
but you won't ever get that other RIGHT player or players clutching on to boozer or drafting late in the first round.
so really, its silly hold to on to someone who can't ever win you championship. After a few years with the team, and having been in the league long enough, he has showed us who he is.

Getting rid of Jason Hart is the only move you can think of for this team to make? Stop picking on the 3rd string point guard and come up with something more creative or interesting.

The Jazz need a tough primary post player. If we can get it while keeping Boozer that would be best. If we have to part ways then so be it.
We want championships, not All-Stars and apologies.
