Look at today's headline stories and count the comments. The story on the FLDS, posted at 11:15 am, already has 101 comments. This story, posted two hours earlier, has no comments. Polygamy trumps horrible natural disasters for Utahans. Anyone want to venture a guess as to why?

Many emotions are easy to express in writing. Anger, humor, curiosity, etc. This is particularly true if we feel that by expressing our feelings we can influence the outcome or contribute some good.

Even though we all feel great sympathy and empathy, sometimes it is difficult to know what to say, especially when you cannot speak to those who hurting and have little influence over the outcome.

Perhaps a donation to your local disaster relief charity and your prayers for the sweet people of China are the things they need more than anything else.

My heart goes out to these people. Let's not forget these folks in our prayers.
China, great example! | 8:47 p.m. May 20, 2008
As an overseas resident who only watched the natural disasters of both the US and China on TV I have to say how fantastic it is to watch China in action! In China, no looting, no waving to aircraft trying to get noticed, just concerned caring citizens helping each other with no other agenda. And most if not all of what I saw was documented by international news teams so we certainly need to have another 'unblinkered' look at our largest Asian family in a new light.

Since 1999 I have been doing tent business with China. Also, we have been a Friendship Family for Chinese Students in America. We have learned to love these people because of their gentle ways and deep family ties. Since the day of the earthquake, the factory I buy tents from has rescheduled all orders for profit and donated its entire production of tents to the homeless victims of the earthquake. And this will continue the rest of this month and through next month. Already they have donated more than 10,000 tents. Also the Sister of one of our dear friends is a doctor, and has canceled her long planned vacation to America and gone to Sichuan instead. There is no mention of compensation, only a desire to help their people. I am ashamed to admit that very few of us would be willing to make such a generous sacrifice. We pray for those who suffer, not only in China, but in all parts of the world.
