I too love the Sacrament Hymns but maybe for a different reason. I am enamoured with the words. I am touched by the simple and meaningful explanation of the sacrifice of the Savior and how it applies to each of us. I have great feelings of gratitude for His goodness, His Example and His love for all, inpite of our mortal ineptness. I love to have this brought to my attention each week. That said, sometimes it truly is the magic of the melody that helps us feel the spirit of the words or the melding of the two together. How wonderful to have inspired musicians and poets who can do this.

GRANDAM Anne: I could not have put it any better, thank you for putting it in a way I could never have.

While flying to Gemany on a Lufthansa flight a few years ago, I heard a Germany mens chorus singing "my Sacrament Hymn." I looked in the fight magazine for a translation of the words. The words being sung were about the beauty of the deep forest. Lots of folks the old master's music.

What a lovely article! Although it is rare, I have heard choirs and soloists perform a sacrament hymn. However, there seems to be an unwritten rule to keep these pieces reserved for preparation of the sacred ordinance. The LDS church is certainly blessed to have such a beautiful collection of hymns, I admire your research on "O God The Eternal Father", and your musical analysis!

Never knew how that song came to be. But has always been and continues to be one of my favorites.

Hymns are really boring. Putting GOD to sleep is what they are doing.

I, too, believe that hymns are a literal miracle.
