I wish the Deseret News would give more coverage to teams in the playoffs.
If it's 2 PG's..... | 5:53 a.m. June 14, 2008
SORRY Deron. You won't get the love. Too many people like Chauncy Billups. Basically it's like this. The man has the grit and determination to eat a box of rocks for breakfast every day. That kind of gumption is just what Team USA Needs. And there's NO way the powers that be will allow Paul to be left off the team. So, if it's 2 then you'll have to visit China some other time.

Wants a Gold Medal | 7:31 a.m. June 14, 2008
As soon as the Celtics finish kicking the crap out of the Lakers....just send them. They are already very well meshed as a team and could take the gold without any problems.

Carlos Boozer...um...no
Jimmy's Sneakers | 8:25 a.m. June 14, 2008
Jimmy would leave off Billups, not kid. Billups was injured at the end of the year.

DWill is a must!! I agree, Kidd would be a BAD choice.
Led Paintlin | 9:57 a.m. June 14, 2008
Hopefully the basketballs in China do not have lead paint on them. And hopefully the players dont lick their hands before shooting a free throw after touching the ball.

D Will is a must
More Stupid Boozer | 12:25 p.m. June 14, 2008
"Yeah, I'm sure we'll both make it," Boozer said, the day after the Jazz were eliminated in the playoffs' second round by the Lakers.

This guy needs to learn to shut his mouth. This will sure make him look stupid if either he or DWill don't make the team.
No Kidd | 12:30 p.m. June 14, 2008
Why is Kidd even on the list? He is way past his prime. I would take D-Will over Kidd any day. He proved it in the playoffs.
Kidd is a lock | 12:42 p.m. June 14, 2008
Kidd is 44-0 in international play. He's basically the captain of the U.S. team. He's 100% going to be there, whether it's at the expense of Deron or Chauncey. Sorry.
JAZZMAN3 | 1:50 p.m. June 14, 2008
Jason Kidd has proved he is no longer that good. I say you leave him and Billups off. Billups is injured so why would he go. Also, anyone who watched a Jazz Vs. Hornets game knows that Deron makes Chris Paul look like a five year old.
U.S.A. | 2:04 p.m. June 14, 2008
Did everyone forget about the Hornets Mavs series. Jason Kidd got wrecked by Chris Paul. However, Chris Paul got circles ran around him by Deron every game they played against each other and if it were not for some choice refs, Joey Crawford, Dick Bevetta, and Steve Javi, they would have been in the Western Conference Finals again. What did Chris do. Only blow a game 7 at home to los3e in the semis.
You got that right | 2:15 p.m. June 14, 2008
I agree 100% with JAZZMAN3. Paul is skilled but williams plain just out works him!

I don't know about Boozer, but D-Will should be in the team. The two spots should be reserved for the best point guards and as of the end of this season Williams and Paul were 1 and 1a as far as point guards go. Kidd is overated and washed up and Billips is about the same.

I am kind of hoping D-Will gets passed up though because then we can enjoy him taking his frustration out on the rest of the league next season!

Boozer? you got to be kidding!

All we need is american who plays defense like european.
dwill in... | 6:05 p.m. June 14, 2008
I don't know about Boozer, but Team USA needs Williams. He can penetrate and dish, but even more important, he can shoot. That tends to be the achililes heal for the U.S. and Dwill is with out a doubt the best shooter from any of the options we have at his position.
oregon fan | 8:19 p.m. June 14, 2008
All of you Boozer haters, and Sloan haters, doubtfully never played a game of basket-ball in your life. you don't know Sloan is one of the premier coaches in the world of basketball. Boozer will be a hall of Fame player. I get tired hearing you utah fans denigrade your team. you have a good young team that will get a ring when the time arrives. stop offering your stupid idiotic opinions. oregon fan has spoken!!!!
Ricky Sticky | 8:35 p.m. June 14, 2008
Here here for the OREGON FAN! Utah has the most fickle fans on the planet, be or fan or go home you whiney, crybaby, think you know it all looooosers! I hope that Boozer and Williams make it but hey the League will have who they want there and especially if they can sell more paraphenelia, the NBA is all abou the market. Frankly we should boycott the games until these god like salaries are put to a real value where the common man can actually attend a game more than once a year! Ricky Sticky OUT!

Was that like "Ryan Seacrest Out?" Is Ryan Seacrest commenting on this article?

Wish Boozer and AK put the same amount of time and effort getting the Jazz deeper into the playoffs as they do about making olympic teams or off season vacation plans.
Stars and Stripes | 11:17 p.m. June 14, 2008
D-Will and Paul should make it. The old guys are past their prime. Not so sure about whether Booz deserves to go, though...
Take the Best | 10:12 a.m. June 15, 2008
I hope decisions aren't made on reputations or past contributions but on who can help this team win a gold medal now. That would leave out Kidd (skill decline), Billups (not 100%), and Boozer (no defense). Williams should be there rotating with Paul without a doubt. I suppose Boozer's lack of defense won't hurt as badly in the Olympics as it did in the NBA playoffs and he would be able to use his strength to dominate defensive rebounds and get easy shots close in. But his late season decline just may keep him out.
re: Kidd is a lock | 10:29 a.m. June 15, 2008
Vin Bakeer and Tim Hardaway are also undefeated in Olympic play...does that make them a lock too? Time for Kidd to pass the torch and get the better players on the floor, so what happened four years ago doesn't happen again.
to oregon fan | 11:19 p.m. June 15, 2008
I'm no fickle fan! The Jazz are the love of my life, but I can still be honest. Boozer plays horrible defense. I like to think i know my team much better than most people know theirs and that includes knowing their weaknesses. Boozer needs to improve on the defensive end!

That being said, I still think he might be in. Stoudamire and Howard are for sure, so its pretty much between him and Chris Bosh. I'm not sure who they will pick though.

As for point guard, Dwill definitely deserves it. He and Paul both are much better than Billups and Kidd. Those two are declining and on their way out. The NBA normally tries to make big stars out of the younger players so why not put Dwill and Paul there? I sure hope Dwill makes it because he deserves it!

Are there 12 NBA players that can pass the drug test? Do the OLYMPICS allow anyone who smokes tha ganja during the offseason? (Or the post season. Instead of waving those boom sticks when they shoot free throws, why not rattle a bag of Cheetos?)
Booz | 11:39 p.m. June 15, 2008
A lot of Booz bashers... what's the deal? Had a career year and back problems near the end and playoffs. I think the guy deserves a bit of a break.
mark-e-mark | 10:02 a.m. June 16, 2008
Melo shouldn't even be considered. If they're trying to avoid a repeat of what happened in 2004 by promoting unselfish play, why would they play the 2nd most selfish player in Denver? Shane Battier would be a MUCH better choice in the 2 guard position.
Moto X | 10:43 a.m. June 16, 2008
Have to agree, D-Will and Paul are NOW the best 2 PG's in the league. Billups may still be injured but if he is not, he might be better suited for international vs. Paul though. Paul is undersized and not a good outside shooter. Billups is both. Bigger is always better and it will help defensively for International ball.

CP3 is just a stump--players just shoot over him all day long, sure he gets a few steals but that is because he is short enough to chew on peoples ankles--he has to do something to make up for the fact that overall he is a poor defender.

Booz would need to be able to defend to be properly suited for International ball--he won't so he is out, or at least he should be.

Let me help all you brilliant analysts out ther understand how people alot smarter than you are putting together team USA.

#1 Point guards - Kidd is not nearly the player that Williams, Paul, or even Billups are. However he has alot of experience and brings leadership to the team. they are keeping 3 point guards and now that Billups is hurt (and really hasn't been playing that well anyways) most likely those three will be Kidd, Williams, and Paul. My bet is that when it is all said and done Williams and Paul will have logged more minutes than Kidd.

#2 Carlos Boozer - Quick, somebody name an American back-to-the-basket power forward better than carlos Boozer...I can think of two Garnett (won't play) and West (injured). The fact is that if you want to build a good team you need a guy who can run the pick and roll and who can score with his back to the basket. Boozers D isn't that bad and he likely will have Dwight Howard behind him.

#3 Stoudamire has said that he is probably out, but if not he's a lock.

#4 Battier is Injured and won't play.

Continuing my thoughts...

given all the history and injuries here's what I think the roster should be

Starters

Williams
Bryant
James
Anthony (if Staudamire is in he starts here)
Howard

Bosh
Boozer
Kidd
Chandler
Redd
Paul
Wade

I think Williams is the perfect point guard for team USA. He is more willing than Paul to pass the ball and get out of the way, he is an excellent 3 point shooter and he matches up well with bigger point guards.

If Staudomire decides to play then to me either Bosh, Boozer, or Chandler are out. Personally, I would probably keep Bosh and Boozer and leave Chandler.

I hate the idea of starting Anthony at PF, ALOT. but coach K has said that he wants to start him there so who am I to argue.

Why wouldn't we just take Kansas or the Celtics? They are both meshed well already and would own.
