It is interesting that Steve Baugh is running. He is the one who has been bringing fuzzy math to the school districts in the valley via his BYU CITES and Partnership. I suspect the UEA and NEA will be putting large dollars into his campaign.

Sandstrom won the last election because the UEA and the teachers got behind him. Now they are out to defeat him because he supported vouchers. Amazing turn of events in two years.

Utah is actually quite socialist when you get down to it. This year may be the year the tide slowly turns towards the democrats.

"Utah is actually quite socialist." Have you ever lived anywhere else? Watching our current state legislature is evidence enough that we aren't "socialists."

This effort by the democrats is really all about education, nothing more. The Utah Republican party's grip on our state's schools has produced nothing of substance in terms of reducing class size or getting long term better funding. They would rather go with vouchers and create an alternative system of charter schools than fund true neighborhood public schools.

Don't be surprised to see a few of these Republican incumbents lose.
Dems don't deserve any credit | 10:09 a.m. June 19, 2008
The Democratic leadership in particular doesn't deserve any credit (success so far has come inspite of Richard Davis and his arrogant approach to party politics). No, the Republicans deserve the blame. The GOP has shot themselves in the foot enough times and have become so libertarian that moderates are leaving in droves.

If you're looking for someone qualified for this job, just check Claralyn Hill's website, mentioned in the article. You will be amazed. I've known Claralyn Hill all my life...well, that's not exactly true, because she's my little sister, so I've known her all HER life. And I can tell you that I don't know anyone who is so dedicated, so honest, so capable as she is. She has spent her life unselfishly trying to make the world a better place.

She's EXACTLY the kind of person we need in public office!

And Utah folks deserve a two party system.

If you've never voted Democratic in your life, this would be a very safe vote for you.

I second atkinson's comment. Claralyn Hill is someone I trust. She is someone district 42 should be proud to have representing them.

Claralyn Hill, Paul Thompson and Steve Baugh are all great people and just the kind of people we need representing us. Hopefully, my fellow Utah County citizens and voters will join me in voting for the best candidate despite political party affiliation this year! Our legislature needs the change, skills, knowledge and integrity these individuals can bring.

I highly endorse Claralyn Hill. She has worked hard for a two party system in Utah County and is honest and hard working. She will do a fantastic job.

Claralyn Hill is a remarkable woman. Democrat or Republican, we truly need people like her representing us. Her selfless community experience has given her insite into the needs of our community far more than any other candidate I have ever met--and I know there are other candidates running as Democrats who have similar backgrounds. Utah County should not be governed by a Republican Party that is no longer faithful to our values and our needs.

I am relieved to finally have great alternatives on the ballot. I just hope we are wise enough to vote for the people we need, not the party we can't believe in anymore.
