What will they do with all those brass polls? So, so sad.
My2Cents | 1:05 p.m. June 20, 2008
Salt Lake City just got a lot more boring.

I know we are in election season, but perhaps you meant brass poles.

Or maybe Dan Jones and Assoc. might find the brass polls beneficial.

I think they need to clean the place up. The buliding looks like it should have been torn down long ago. Just move to a newer, better location. The new location for the Blue Boutique is a million times better than the old place, take a tip from them.

The title of this story should be: "Supreme Court raises property value in Murray." The strip club knew they were under the microscope and that any chance given to remove them from operation would be seized. All it takes is being late once with the rent and "game over."
duh | 1:18 p.m. June 20, 2008
you have a shinning new building with a gaudy strip club next to it. You go most places and its the same. You want to get more customers you beef up your image. There are plenty of non-mormon companies that would do the same thing. It's called good business.

I read these comments and wonder why no one can stay on topic. IHC won and now as the land owners they don't have to pay to rebuild Southern X. Move on...

Thought and judgment are not compatible with bigotry.
Re: My2Cents | 1:46 p.m. June 20, 2008
Umm... Dude, this was in Murray City.
observer | 2:01 p.m. June 20, 2008
The strip club is sandwiched between the new hospital and Murray Park. Also, it's just a block from Murray High School. I'm surprised it lasted this long.
job loss | 2:06 p.m. June 20, 2008
After all the comments about the City Creek project potentially providing jobs for the unemployed, tis sad to see the cheers for the loss of well-paying jobs for the workers at Southern Exposure. There aren't many other places those with few skills can market their abilities for good pay. It wouldn't be my choice of a job, but there are families affected by this closure.
AZ | 2:53 p.m. June 20, 2008
The closure of any strip club for any reason is a good thing.
NY | 2:58 p.m. June 20, 2008
I have been in New York for the past 20 years. Under Guiliani, all those who peddled porn and ran strip clubs were largely driven off of 42nd street. The city has revitalized and the community is much better as a result. Way to go Murray City!
OH NO! Say its not so! | 3:01 p.m. June 20, 2008
OH NO! The off site "Southern Exposure" rehabilitation center for those recovering from high blood pressure, heart attacks, and seizures just got shut down! Whatever will they do for those recovering patients now!?! I mean that off site center sure did them a lot of good!

No seriously good for IHC. It was a public nuisance and eye sore. Maybe it would be better located somewhere else....canada....mexico....Alaska. Yes Alaska will do just fine. Just about all the skin men will see will be the ladies ankles for its too cold for anything else to be shown.
Billy Bob | 3:39 p.m. June 20, 2008
It looks like me and the boys are going to have to find somewhere else to go on weekends....too bad, I really liked the food there.
RE: Job Loss | 3:40 p.m. June 20, 2008
I hope you're being sarcastic. Either way, I laughed at your thought.
Linda | 4:07 p.m. June 20, 2008
Murray will become a little less seedy. I'm from Los Angeles and strip clubs are always in the most run down parts of town. As I drive into Costco from State St I won't miss the biggest eyesore within 5 square miles!
ken | 4:49 p.m. June 20, 2008
Strip clubs stay open because men in power frequent those clubs and pay hefty amounts to see that they stay open.
Loosers | 4:55 p.m. June 20, 2008
Why would IHC pay to build Southern Xposure a new building. IHC owned the land and the building they were in... they were just renters. That nasty old building was well... nasty. It will be a much better area with that business off that busy corner by the hospital and the highschool. They will find another location in the area, I'm sure all the men who aren't satisfied with their wives will still have a place close to home. Or they could drive 20 min north to Salt Lake where southern exposure has another location.
Bias | 5:54 p.m. June 20, 2008
Excuse me, Rebecca, your bias is showing.

"Gaudy neon strip club?" "Gleaming five-tower medical center?"

Your job is to simply report the facts. Please, leave the commentary to us. :)
Dean | 6:07 p.m. June 20, 2008
Sorry, Bias | 5:54 p.m.

If you've ever been there, those ARE the facts! The place would be an eyesore no matter what business was inhabiting the building. The FACT that it is a "Gaudy neon strip club" only exacerbates the issue.

Facts are facts - descriptive or not!
An Emotion I don't have | 6:09 p.m. June 20, 2008
I don't understand why some people dislike strip clubs. I can't relate. This emotion is world wide though, not confined to Utah or even religious places. In countries where prostitution and strip clubs are legal, there is still the desire that they stay in their own areas or underground.
Dee ex 7 | 6:11 p.m. June 20, 2008
Was Gaudy Neon the name of one of the dancers?
To: Loosers |4:55 | 6:12 p.m. June 20, 2008
I agree with you but you are asking a bunch of non-member drunks who are morality corrupt to spend another 20 minutes on the road. Well I am not willing to take that risk with these people so don't encourage them to take thier 'show' on the road.
Close by | 10:47 p.m. June 20, 2008
Anyone know when they will have to vacate by? I work right near there and I've been waiting for the lawsuit to be finished so they can redevelop the area.
Tom | 11:56 p.m. June 20, 2008
Kind of off the topic but Southern Exposure was not a nude dancing club, as the headline says (if I recall correctly).
Re: Dean | 11:59 p.m. June 20, 2008
Not that I disagree with your opinion of the aesthetic appeal of the place (and I've driven that stretch of State Street many times), but I disagree with your assertion that those adjectives - "gaudy," in particular - "are the facts."

It is not appropriate for Ms. Palmer to pepper her reporting with those sorts of subjective descriptions - regardless of what the article is about.

Hats off LOL | 12:07 a.m. June 21, 2008
You have to hand it to Kent Bangetor. He held off Murray City for 10 years. When Murray sent their Police to harrass the customers when they would leave the parking lot, plus many other harrassing tactics many that were illegal. Kent always found a way to legally get around it and professionaly move on with his business, even providing free shuttle to and from the club to keep the public safe from drivers who may have had a little too much. Way to stick it to the City Kent. I wish you all the best.
Tom is right | 1:01 a.m. June 21, 2008
Was not a nude club. Pasties and G-strings.
Kathy | 5:39 a.m. June 23, 2008
Highest and best use. They probably want to add to the hospital... Southern exposure can find a better location. This may be a blessing in disguise.
gmiaah | 4:17 p.m. June 23, 2008
They do need a new building and thier new location on 33rd south and state is really nice inside. Maybe Kent could by filthy Trails and then he could have 3 locations again. Trails used to have the prettiest girls but new management had them go running to southern so if Southern is closing Kent should buy trails get our trails girls back and the pretty girls at southern rotating between International and Trails. Nice job Kent of keeping southern open as long as your did.
