That's a side of Sloan you don't often read about. Good story.
We love you Jerry | 1:38 a.m. June 23, 2008
Jerry seems to get screwed over for just about everything; Olympics, Coach of the Year, refs in the playoffs, etc. I really hope LHM builds a statue of him outside the ESA. He deserves it and we're lucky to have him for at least another season.

Sloan works with less talent than any other coach in the NBA and gets more out of it. He is a great asset tot he Jazz and to Utah.

I agree that you don't see that side of Sloan very often. Excellent article.

Sloan deserved "COY" at least twice and should have been the coach of that Olympic team. The guy has gotten his fair share of jabs.

Go Sloan!

Sload will never coach the Olympic team. He doesn't pander to the star players ego enough.

There would be a mutiny of epic preportions if a touch nosed coach like Sloan were picked to coach that group.

The Olympic team just needs a chearleader, not a coach.
Great Coach | 11:20 a.m. June 23, 2008
Sloan is extremely underrated as a coach and as a Jazz fan I feel extremely lucky to have lived to see him coach for his duration (however long he decides to stay).

Richard T is right on. He does more with less and makes bad teams good and good teams great.

By the way a sign of his greatness is how he's overhauled his offense for the new Jazz team with Williams at the lead. Great Coach is an understatement.

Sloan has just never been able to make it over the hill other than in age. He cannot quite get to the top for some reason or rather - not everyone is an A student and he can be proud of his achievements

I am always amazed at all the Jazz fns around Utah that think Sloan should fired. If he gets fired, please send him up to Seattle. We'd loce to have a decent coach.

i believe he is one of the greatest coaches ever!!! we live in idaho and love the jazz ,now and forever.

If Sloan coached the teams that Phil Jackson has coached, the Lakers would be NBA Champs today.

Get 'em Jerry!!

Sloan doesn't get these rewards because doesn'rt deserve them.

Because he is not one of the greatest coaches ever.

He doesn't get more out his players than anyone else. One of the biggest myths ever. just look player who came to the jazz from other teams, and look at players who left the jazz and went other teams. Statistically not much difference.

And he is one the worst "game time" coaches ever, with no ability adjust or use strategy.

NO one outside of jazz fandom talks much about sloan or his coaching.

Sloan may be a big fish in little pond, mostly because miller allows it,

But he is a small fish everywhere else.

This may be hard truth for jazz fans to accept.

What? Anonymous must be crazy.

All of us who know him and are related to him---and others who have worked with him and for him and played for him realize that Jerry Sloan is one of the best coaches ever.

We are all lucky to be a part of this dynasty.

There is only one thing that will make up for not making coach of the year and not being named the Olympic coach-----The Hall of Fame.

Go Jerry. Coach until you are 90!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sloan is the greatest coach ever to advance to
the first and second round of the playoffs...

Phil Jackson is willing to teach "fish to swim"

Sloan made All-Stars out of two middle round picks and took them to the finals with role-playing journeymen backing them up.

Sloan made John Stockton the greatest point guard in NBA history.

Sloan is God.

I think john stockton made john stockton.

Or tell me specifically what sloan did. General assertions mean absolutely nothing.

The system allows point guards to get alot of assists. That's what happend when put the ball in one persons hands.

The system allowed malone, and now boozer, to inflate their the offensive stats. That's what happen when one person gets gets most of the touches or gets to touch the ball first.

by the way malone slipped down the jazz because bad rumours about malone. The jazz were just plain lucky. Stockton was a great pick up, but as one the two main stars when did you see John go off for thirty points when hs team needed it?

On the other hand if you are truly a great player you probably be great anywhere.

NOw tell me what did sloan specifically do?

The only thing I might give him credit for is getting his teams to win more games than they had a right to. On the other hand it cost them by getting lower draft picks than should have got.

Anonymous, you should learn how to speak proper English before going off on a rant like that. No one will be able to take you seriously with the mass amounts of errors in your grammar and spelling. It nullifies your entire argument and makes you look like an idiot. Sloan is a great coach. Mehmet Okur came in and averaged nearly twice as many points under Sloan than he did under Larry Brown. People who have left have not succeeded outside of Sloan's system. Shandon Anderson, Howard Eisley, Bryon Russell, Donyell Marshall, etc. all signed free agent contracts elsewhere thinking they would be able to play better elsewhere. None of them amounted to anything wherever they went. That is Sloan maximizing talent and getting the most out of his players.
Stockton To Malone | 3:50 p.m. June 26, 2008
Matt, you are 100 percent correct about the players leaving and not finding the same success after leaving the Jazz. Why Jerry is not known on the national level is because he doesn't beat his own drum, like a majority of today's players and coaches. He gives credit to the players when they win, and accepts the criticism when the lose. This is a lost art in today's society . Anonymous you must be as dumb as your writing skills. Instead of criticizing coaches, criticize your English teachers
