i think you should turn the sound off and see if ken can get there just using the map and directions without the voice. i would break that thing if i had to listen to it for 10 hours!

I also agree to turning the sound off...although, some have options to change the gender and accent...And, quite honestly, the male with the British accent is very pleasant to listen to...there's just something attractive about a man with an accent...Maybe would that would ease the frustration with the obnoxious know it all... =)

Dear Ann, Love your column, but I can tell you have never been lost very long in a place like Atlanta. We were transfered here and I have never lived in a place so confusing.

I am a little slow to comment on this one . . . . but I too Hate the GPS. I don't, however, miss my husband calling me at home, when he is in the middle of Sandy, wondering how to get where he is going. BTW, I can usually tell him without even pulling up mapquest on the computer. ANYWAY . . . when we go anywhere together, I drive, and I do NOT need the GPS. I don't need to know my "estimated arrival time" or my "average speed" or that my next turn is in 0.3 miles. If that thing even says ONE WORD, while I am driving, my husband gets an immediate Glare and is usually already in the process of turning off the voice. One benefit, however, is the GPS is much less expensive than replacing my broken speedometer, so I will use it for that. :-)
