Isn't that socialism?

Can anyone tell me of any other country that borrows money from countries like China to give it away in the form of foreign aid to countries in Africa and the Middle East?

What are you going to say to your children or grand chldren when they say "Why did you saddle us with all this debt to pay off?"

All these programs would be fine if we had a budget surplus but my question is should we do it if we need to borrow the money to pay for it?

I also feel we should take care of American citizens first who are hungry or without medical care.

Am I the only one?

To a question for you: Our children and grandchildren are going to lower our social security benefits to pay for our mistakes, and well they should.

It's noble of the Deseret News, Congress, and Pres. Bush to want to help people in Africa. I'd like to think that any one of us would do the same using our own money if we could. The fact is, though, that we can. There are innumerable non-profit organizations that help people in Africa and all over the world. I used to work for one in DC that helped people with HIV.

I believe that taxing people to help specific individuals is wrong (redistribution of wealth), even though it is altruistic. Government social programs remove responsibility from the individual and detach the giver and the recipient from each other, thus creating charity without love.

Let's help the people in Africa, in America, and everywhere else, but as individuals who choose to donate directly or through non-profit groups.

We'd have no problem taking of ourselves and alleviating suffering worldwide if we hadn't just spent $800 billion on a useless war.

We could use the $50 billion more productively here at home to develop energy resources.

Besides, the US treasury is empty.

What's more, I'm sure the word must be out by now that AIDS is wholly preventable with abstinence or the use of condoms.

A little "compassionate conservatism" display for those dwindling number of fools who STILL support this terrible administration.
Watch for more speeches at VFW halls and photo-ops of Dubya piling sandbags around flooded areas.

To Lionheart: we're going ELIMINATE your Social Security benefits, then we're going to stick you in a rest home. And not a good rest home either. One of those crooked rest homes they show on "60 Minutes".

Why not give more money to Africa? It's only money. We can inflate our currency more - what the heck.... may as well do it now or in a few years they will only be able to use it for sanitary purposes or cooking fires as that is how much value it will have

We can't afford health care for our citizens and Congress was going to cut the reimbursement fees for doctors who serve Medicare patients?

We need an entirely new Congress. One that understands they represent the American people.

Let's stop all the talk about how we can't afford social security which we paid for but they spent. Forget the thought that Medicare must be cut back as we also paid for that which they mismanaged.
