Life jacket? | 12:36 a.m. July 6, 2008
I guess he probably took off his life jacket (I'm assuming everyone on the boat was wearing one) so that he could make the dive under the surface. How deep was the water? The piece of equipment -- did it float or sink? If it floated at or near the surface, there was no need to remove the life jacket. Time and time again we see disregard for safety rules and equipment turn into tragic results.

It is possible to drown wearing a life jacket.

Wow. What a nightmare.

My condolences to this young man's family and friends.

There doesn't seem to be any reason to believe this was a dangerous act. People safely swim in lakes every day, he was young and healthy, the weather was fair, the boat right there next to where he went in... it just appears as if he got snagged on something under water and couldn't get free.

What a tragedy.

Again, my heart goes out to those affected by this loss.

I had a class with him at BYU. What a great man. He was always cheerful and happy. He will be missed. My deepest condolences to his family.
