I loved this rodeo... | 1:29 a.m. July 13, 2008
...when we lived in Clover 1982-1986. I'm not a rodeo rider by any means, but I rode a borrowed horse in the barrel race and had a ball. It's always held between the 4th and the 24th. There are lots of Sagers and other family names in Clover and St. John (which comprise "Rush Valley"). Great people! My kids always participated in the greased pig chase, and one daughter tried to ride our fat little Welsh pony in the barrel races, without a saddle mind you, and slid off when he just stopped and wouldn't run any more. She was embarrassed, but the announcer just said to the laughing crowd, "YOU try to stay on that fat little horse without a saddle!" She felt better, I think. It's a great event with something for everyone. One year it rained (often does, actually) and a good friend was riding bulls. He ALMOST made it the 8 seconds, but his wet boot came off, and so did he. If you have a chance to go, it's well worth the trip. It's on the highway that goes west to Dugway, about 20 miles South of Tooele.
